You Don’t Have to Get it Right; Just Get it Going
Just in case you didn’t know, I go to the gym every day.
Not just to look my best, feel good or have more energy, but to also keep a commitment that I made to myself a long time ago when I was healing from a fractured vertabrae in my lower back.
Sure, my original committment was to heal, but then I added on looking better, feeling better and having more energy.
Today, it goes a lot deeper than that.
Here’s what I mean- I think a story is in order.
So today I’m riding the bike on Level 8, warming up for 20 minutes before I go blast my shoulders with an intense workout.
While reading some blog posts by a few friends of mine, I noticed that I wasn’t peddling my bike with the same intensity as when I started.
And that’s when all the dots came together - you know, that ton o’ bricks that hits you right between the eyes!
I was there at the gym to keep my committment and to stay in integrity with myself – you know – doing what I say I’m going to do by when I say I’m going to do it. (That’s the other reason I go to the gym 5 day per week – simply because I said I would – whole other story for another post though!)
Anyway, so I realize that by reading on my iPhone, Im not really peddling the bike – certainly not enough to make a difference.
I was so wrapped up in the information, that I wasn’t doing the work thats required of me to really meet my goals – you know, the real reason I was there in the first place.
Do you do this too?
Do you get so wrapped up in reading and listening to information, that you just plain forget to do the work?
Well my friend, it’s not done consciously, but subconsciously and although it’s not your fault that a million distractions are present in your everyday life, it’s your responsibility to make sure that this does not happen to you.
Look, every day there is going to be a distraction that looks good or sounds good – heck, it’s probably even more fun than doing what it takes to succeed.
Really, anything can distract you if you let it.
So the key here is to discipline yourself on a conscious level – not to give your attention away to anything until you complete your work.
Sure, there is a time to read and listen and educate yourself, but the time to act, is now.
Don’t let procrastination get in your way.
You don’t have to be perfect to produce.
Remember, you don’t have to get it right; just get it going.

Great Advice...
Good point Aaron, sidetracking can be a big distraction. Even more so when you don't realize your doing it!
So right!
I have a problem with that....I have to learn how to get started and then not allow the little things to stop me from moving forward.
I'm not so sure...
I was trying to think of the right thing to write... but I thought I'd just get my comment going ;-)
Great post bro! :)
Great Post!
Many people get caught up in the "paralysis of analysis" and "getting ready to get ready" paradigms.
Get in and get going...what ever it is that you do!
Great advice!

Is this Faith?
Many years back, the Rotarians used to say it this way: do what you believe in and believe in what you do. Keep doing it regardless of your moods? At the end of the day, it is what you believe in that matters. Is that it? It is and you said it so. Thank you.
Half-a**ing it...
is better than no-a**sing it. :)
Good stuff.
