Customer Relationship Management Strategy [CRM]
If you aren’t familiar with CRM’s, check out my recent post . . . What’s Your Customer Relationship Management Strategy?
The network marketing industry has struggled for years with customer relationship management strategy. If you’ve been in the industry for any length of time you’ve seen CRM referred to as ‘The Success Plan’, ‘Steps to Success’ or other similar names. Essentially, customer relationship management strategy is the plan one follows when leading a prospective customer or distributor through a prospecting funnel . . . and beyond.
A Good Customer Relationship Management Strategy Provides the Answers
The question for new distributors has always been . . . ‘What do I do next?’
And the questions don’t stop at the point of signing up a new customer or distributor.
Once the customer purchases products or services . . . or a new distributor signs on . . . the ‘What do I do next?’ questions continue and the importance of using a solid customer relationship management strategy increases.
The pressure is on! There is more at stake because the success of each individual home business owner is rooted in moving products/services. When customers aren’t buying and distributors aren’t buying and not recruiting new distributors . . . then products/services aren’t moving . . . and when products/services aren’t moving there is no income . . . no business.
Customer Relationship Management Strategies have been Around for Years
When I joined the network marketing industry in the late ‘90s, the answers to the “What do I do next” questions . . . customer relationship management questions . . . were outlined on paper in new distributor manuals. As I started to attend local, regional and national events, I found the strategy included in “live” presentations . . . later delivered via cassette tapes, on CD, then DVD and now on Internet web pages and during webinars. There was never a shortage of plans beautifully laid out and ready for implementation.
The Real Problem with Customer Relationship Management
From the beginning, I’ve believed the real problem . . . the struggle . . . in the network marketing industry wasn't lack of easy to follow customer relationship management plans . . . but instead . . . failure to get distributors to follow the plan. After all . . . it’s one thing to follow 4,5 or 6 steps through the ‘prospecting funnel’ . . . but quite another to consistently follow up with customer service plus downline distributor service and training over a long period of time.
Since most distributors are working at building a home business on a part-time basis, time is precious. When a distributor is trying to follow a manual customer relationship management system . . . ticking off blocks on a form . . . totaling points earned . . . updating spreadsheets and customer/distributor profiles . . . then precious time is being spent on administration rather than being spent on building relationships. Simply put, the distributor becomes bogged down with administrative tasks . . . and we all know money stops flowing when administration takes over.
A Customer Relationship Management System Handles the Administration
Let’s play a game for a moment . . . Let’s Suppose!
- Suppose the burdensome administrative tasks of the past can be replaced by a Customer Relationship Management System [CRM] . . . a system that reduces administration to a minimal level . . . to such a low level that administration becomes totally inconsequential.
- Suppose the network marketer can feel more like a business person . . . a professional business person . . . one that is totally focused on building relationships with prospects, customers and distributors.
- Suppose the customer relationship management system always knows the next step that is required for each prospect, for each customer and for each downline distributor.
- Suppose network marketers can come home from the JOB . . . go into the home office . . . turn on the PC . . . sign into a system and find collected in one place every action required in order to be successful that day.
- Suppose the 2 – 3 hours a part-time distributor has available to work each day at prospecting and customer/distributor relationship management is truly organized so that no time is wasted on administration . . . but spent instead on income generating tasks.
Do you suppose that network marketer . . . that business owner can be more productive and profitable . . . maybe happier? Think about it! Then check out . . .
