Personnel Development

Personal development is a decision. If we are dedicated to making our self into better people, we will. We should make this decision in a humble and giving attitude. It should be a change made to help others rather than our selves, for our family, friends and clients. If done in this way it will be highly effective.

The categories of development we should emphasize are; Spiritual, Emotional, Intellectual, and Physical. Lets look at each of these separately.

First and foremost is our spiritual condition. I believe that all people have been give a life force or spirit from God. However there are many people who do not wish to recognize this in them selves or in others. This spirit connects us with God and His creative energy. I personally subscribe to the philosophy of Jesus Christ who teaches us that God is a kind, forgiving, merciful God who wishes for us to show these same attributes to our fellow human family throughout the world. So I read the Bible and other inspirational books that expound on and teach these principles. In turn I then put them into practice into my life. The two key tenants are to Love God with all your Heart (mind), soul, and body, second To love your neighbor as yourself, or do unto others as you would have them do unto you. It is important to understand and realize that we are all very special in the eyes of God. To come to a place, in a humble way, that we know we are a very unique individual, personally created by the same God that created the universe. Now some of us have been treated very badly by other human beings who's Job it was to teach us these things. However they either, did not know them, were not taught them or rejected them all together. In these cases we need to seek out others who can encourage, nurture, and inspire us back to our natural state of being, that is, a child of God with all the rights to His promises of abundance; (Health, wealth and prosperity in all aspects of our lives). We should all seek our spiritual nature through study and relationships with like minded people.

Second our emotional development. This part of our make up effects the way we relate to others and how we think about our selves. There are those who grew up in a nurturing environment with lots of; Love, encouragement, and inspiration, however they are few and far between. No one is perfect and somewhere along the line most of us have been damaged emotionally by others, and of course there are many degrees of effect. Many people have, unknowingly, taken on habits of self destruction or rebellion. This is were one of the tenants of my beliefs come into play. As we learn how to forgive others who have hurt us and understand that God Loves us very much, and that is what is most important. We can begin to believe in ourselves and be able to release self defeating behaviors and the fears and anxieties associated with relating to others. Another huge part of success is; how do we feel about money? This may seem like a strange question, but many of us were taught that rich people and or having money is a bad thing. We may not even realize we think this way. The process of changing your emotional state begins by reading self help material and inspirational type books that will give us the correct mind set, confidence and a positive outlook. We may even need to sit down with a trusted friend, colleague or professional to work through these issues. Much of our spiritual training will also help in this area too. We should all seek to understand our behaviors and be sure that if they are self defeating we learn how to change them. How can we Love others as our self if we don't Love our self.

Intellectual is the third area of development we should look at. There are those who have always loved school, reading and learning, but again they are few and far between. Most of us finish high school and then a few of us go on to college or career training and even fewer of us go on to graduate school. Many of these have specialized in a particular field that has nothing to do with business. The point is that very few of us know anything about business and marketing. To be successful in business we must learn new skills or end up wasting a lot of time and money. We must learn skill sets that we may be lacking in such as time management, money management, marketing, advertising est. needed to be successful. Turn your car into a class room listen to training, and inspirational material as you travel. Create a Reading list, books on sales techniques, marketing, prospecting, what ever you are week on. As we learn the, how to, we will be equipped to grow a successful business.

Last and probably the most neglected is our physical development. This is really more of a maintenance thing. But we all should develop better habits in this area. How we take care of our body effect the way we perform. As business people we don't do a very good job at taking care of ourselves. If we will pay attention to what we eat; cut back on sugar and fat, eat more fruits and vegetables and take a 45 minute walk four times a week we would be much better off.

At first glace we would say, how in the world am I going to take my schedule and fit any of this into my life. It does seem daunting at first look, however as we begin the process if we start with the physical it will do two things. We will have more energy and need less sleep, this will compress time. This compression of time will allow for more Meditation (Prayer), and Reading (Study)time. We are already riding in our car, some more than others, but this time can also be used for more self development. Make the decision to develop yourself into a better person so that you will bring more value to the lives of those around you. Not only will you bring value to others, you will become more content with life itself. Enjoy the journey!
