Sign your name

Are you looking for thousands?

We're all looking for thousands of signups for our list are we not?  Isn't that what the majority of the game seems to be today?  Get traffic to your
website or capture page.  So they'll be on your list. That's what gets them into the funnel.  What's wrong with that?  Absolutely nothing!  If that's your
goal.  But don't you want to qualify them? Mmm... mmm... no that'll come later.  Right now I just need names... lots of names... on my list.
    But I guess that's where I have a problem.
When I was a little boy as the son of sign painter.  We painted big highway signs.  You've seen them, today they're made of paper or neon.  Back then we
painted them by hand.  However, as you view those signs from the highway you can see no flaws in the workmanship.  But if you could view those signs from up close and personal you might be surprised at what you could see. But when we painted them my dad would not allow us to have paint drips or squiggly lines on the letters (even though they could not be seen from the highway).  Why?  My dad always told us even though the viewer couldn't see them.  He could, and we could and we would always know that there was a flaw and we left it that way.  After painting the sign he would always paint his name down in the right corner.  Even though it couldn't be seen from the highway.  He taught us to always look at things with a critical eye and be picky about the result.

Make sure it was good enough to sign your name.

So what does this have to do with building your list.  Well for me it's easy.  You get up each day looking for thousands to sign up at your site.
But, I'm picky... I'm looking for one.  You should be looking for one.  That one person who has decided they are tired of the hype, tired of the empty
promises, and tired of the lack of success.  Someone who is looking for you!  Looking for your help, your leadership and your friendship. So today... I
decided I'm not looking for thousands of signups... But being picky... using my critical eye...

because after all we're only looking for one!

Hey Les, great story!

I never knew about the flaws up close on road signs, but the analogy is a good one. I'd like to partner up with people I'd have a fantastic time with on a 2 week cruise!

Excellent Article, Les

The analogy you "painted" is great!!! I'm so thankful I am working with a group of people who are looking for people not just numbers.

Thanks, Les

Really great Article Les

Hi Les, this article shows me just how much of a leader you are and your story you shared has tremendous value. You are right about the hype, spam and lies out there. Your article shows me how much integrity and truth you have. You are building your list, one person at a time, but that person is someone who is quality, they want you. I would rather have 1 quality person over 10 people who are not in my marketing target any day. Excellent, creative and most importantly, truly spoken like a leader who knows what he wants. Great article Les Thanks for Value.

It's integrity.

I like your dad's philosophy. It's integrity. It builds self respect when we know we have done the best job. Your article is great with a valuable truth. Thanks a bunch!

Not Your Typical Paint By Number!

Thank you Les for sharing not only your history in painting, but the actual story behind it. Isn't it funny, not ha ha funny, but odd how our parents help form who we will become by the lessons they teach us in real life situations?

First of all you worked with you dad, side by side learning his skill and trade. Then he made sure he would put his name on your work, pretty awesome testimony I'd say!

Thank you too for helping me to keep my "critical eye" on the prize...of helping one person...at a time.

Live your adventure,
Carla J Gardiner

Leads or prospects?

I think there's a difference. To me, leads are just "warm bodies" who've been interested in "something" at some point - enough to enter their contact info somewhere. Prospects, on the other hand, are interested in what YOU have to offer. Prospects are prospective customers, clients, or partners. Prospects are best found by meeting people with interests similar to yours then building relationships with them and finding out how you can help them get what they're looking for. Another great post, Les!

Sign it Loud and Proud

I can't help but think of some of the founding fathers signing The Declaration Of Independence when reading this. Those who were unsure about it signed either so small you could not read it or so sloppy you could not make out the name. Taking pride, signing your name.....Thanks Les

It's all about looking for the right ones.
Thanks for a great post and analogy!

I love this story, Les!

One thing I keep in mind is, "Do I want to work with this person?" The answer better be yes!
