The Greatest Insult to Yourself is to Compare Yourself to Others!

Have you ever looked at the success of others and measured it up against your own accomplishments, or lack of them?

This is a VERY dangerous thing to do. Compete only with yourself and compare yourself only to your actions and accomplishments from yesterday, last week, last month, etc... Everyone has a different life situation and this is what often leads us down different paths. We each have various talents and gifts.

Take an inventory of the gifts and talents you've been blessed with. You have to name them before you can claim and celebrate them. Then make a list of goals that you wish to accomplish. They can be personal development goals, family goals, business goals, social goals, etc... Also, put together a "to - do" list of actions you need to take in order to meet these goals. Make an effort each day to move forward. As you take certain steps and achieve certain goals, congratulate yourself on that success.

This was a big mistake I made early in my life. I looked at others and rated myself based on their actions and their successes. Once I realized that I was my own worst enemy and I was stunting my own growth by continuing to compare myself against others, things really changed.

Make out your daily and weekly action list with realistic expectations of where you are and what you can accomplish as far as your goals are concerned. Check off one, two, twenty or fifty steps with a smile and be happy for your success. Measure yourself against what YOU accomplished last week and strive to go one step further.

Keep a log of your actions!

Day to day, log and time out what you do, and you will be able to see what you have done, and how long you spent doing it. Then you can see a pattern and make adjustments.

you speak my language

Jerry,
Very helpful! Reminds me of my blog I posted yesterday.
If we compare ourselves to what others are doing. Ouch! We will become discouraged. Not a good thing.
"All you can do is all you can do but all you can do is enough! Have you read that book by A.L. Williams?
