Picking your line
Life is not a spectator sport. If you’re going to spend your whole life in the grandstands just watching what goes on, in my opinion you’re wasting your life!
I was photographing my son’s mountain bike team for a gift to the coaches and parents. One of his coaches Sarah T is a professional mountain biker and I had the pleasure of riding with her.
I watched every move and technique she used. Even more important Sarah came with a single speed bike. The one gear on her bike is like riding in the 27th gear of the new multi speed bikes.
So I asked why she rode that bike on this uphill ride. Sarah turned and said it’s for the challenge to pick clean lines and work on my fundamentals.
It was amazing to ride so close and watch every line and technique she used. When I talk about picking a line that is because these trails are full of rocks, roots, holes and everything else nature can throw at you.
If you don’t pick a clean line you will end up off the trail.
Mid way into our ride, I noticed in a tight switchback turn Sarah was not looking at the turn she was headed into but was looking at the next turn 75 – 100’ over her shoulder. So again I asked Why? “I’m picking my line” – In short she was planning ahead exactly where she was going.
My life experience has helped me focus on my ultimate goal and to celebrate each day’s accomplishments and focus on the big “picture”. http://jimf.MyWayOut.net
I continually learn each day that the personal and life obstacles (walls) that appear in my life are placed there to give me the opportunity each day to prove how badly I want my true freedom.
The walls and obstacles are also placed to weed out the people that don’t want it bad enough!
We all have obstacles and life happens. Unfortunately many put our incredible business on the side when life happens and that prevents them from obtaining the goals they desire.
I have had the great opportunity to speak to two incredible mentors that helped me pick my line!
One told me, It is worth rearranging my priorities and life for the next 2 – 3 yrs to build my business
and that’s exactly what my wife and I did.
The other is a very intense and successful person and he looked me straight in the eye and asked me “Why do you keep looking back? Focus on what’s ahead” These two conversations changed my life personally and professionally.
Julie (my wife) and I sat down and picked our line! We put a plan together for me to leave an incredible 24 yr career and begin building my business full time. As Craig told me it was worth rearranging my life to build my business full time. We looked 3 yrs ahead, and started to work backwards.
Our plan started with lightening our load/ reducing my stress.
The first load to lighten was our dream house. This was one of our pride and joys as we custom built an environmentally friendly home using all green products. In one day we sold our home, paid our debts to lighten our load.
The next step was to LEAD our life!!
I had just fired my boss and sold my home. We have no more ties to anything. Wow what an incredible feeling that was. So we moved our family across the country to start living one of our dreams that was to live in the San Juan Mountains of Southwest Colorado.
I can tell you that was the best decision we have ever made as a family. I’m not advocating you to all sell your homes and move!
But for me it was the right time, and the right place to break away.
In picking and drawing my line into cement this team and opportunity has enabled me to have the inspiration and permission to dream huge! I have no boss to answer to and I have a license to break the MOLD and be the master of my own Domain.
Building my business is so much more than just making money.
It gives me the opportunity to live and build a legacy, to share my wisdom with the world and allows me to enable others to do the same. The bottom line is that when I let everything go I could focus on assisting others to achieve their dreams. When you pick your line and LEAD your life all your dreams will come true.
My best days in the business are the days that I’m Leading my family’s life with the dreams and desire we have talked about. I’m showing my kids that they can do anything, be anything and achieve anything they desire.
I challenge you to take some time today, pick your line. Consider how you can lighten your load/ stress. Focus on your dreams and goals.
Rearrange your life these next 2 -3 years. And make it a priority to LEAD YOUR LIFE and all your dreams will come true.
I want to close with a few things that I read each and every day.
A quote from Jackie Robinson, in 1947 the first black player to play in major league baseball.
Life is not a spectator sport. If you’re going to spend your whole life in the grandstands just watching what goes on, in my opinion you’re wasting your life!
Not sure who wrote this!
“If you can hold it in your head you can hold it in your hands”
