Pillar Three Of Compassionate Leader - Give Without Want

My nephew two years ago sat outside the house with me. It was his birthday and he wondered where his uncle was. We’d usually have those moments where he’d see me staring out somewhere.

He’d walk a little, stop, think if he should or not and then decide to sit next to me.

For some reason, I have this connection with all my nieces and nephews. Never has there been a time, where I had much challenge with children or young people. Maybe because they know I am a rebel in the family. A rebel in our family isn’t seen as something bad but rather it is seen as adventurous, going for life, not putting ones focus on just a job. I was never that way even as a child.

Maybe it is because I never grew up to be as some adults wanted me to be. I have always believed in greater dreams, always believed in heroes, and the great adventures that lay ahead for any man or woman who is willing to venture out in this great, beautiful landscape, we call life.

I have always believed that one day; man will fly through space and not just in rocket ships either. I have always believed that what we see on the internet and technology are just a beginning and greater dreams are yet to come.

I have always believed, that every race will live together in peace and there will never be a war again. That belief was set in stone when someone gave to me as a child years ago. That one act changed my whole perspective on life. That giving for not wanting anything back off me, changed me to see hope in this world and there are good people. It is only if we are ready in mind, heart and soul to meet them.

My nephew sat next to me and didn’t say word for a while. It’s his way and I respect his way. Then he would look down, move his feet as though he is painting his dreams on the steps, and ask:

“Uncle. I was at school and I got to do a talk on people who made a difference.”
“That’s a very good topic son.”
“Yes but.."
"But?" I asked.
"But I don't know who to talk about and what my teacher means about making a difference."

I only shared what I learnt and not just books, CDs, DVDs but also from how I see leaders live. I shared with him this very pillar and again a quote, I learnt from John C. Maxwell:

“You’re greatest achievements are those that benefit others. The greatest achievements in your life will not be for Self. Your greatest achievements you have in life will be for others.”

Notice the word "will be for others." Not "I" or "Me" but someone else.

How You Are Born Wealthy
When I wrote this pillar in my old torn cover journal, I felt something. I don’t know if you feel it too. Maybe tears do not  run down your face or a gut feeling that tightens. Or the thoughts of 'Aha!' suddenly hits you. Not because of sadness or judgement on others.

Rather, because you figured it out at last and you found hope. You've found an answer that you already knew but maybe, you just needed a friend to say it.

You see, we don’t need to have a lot of money or even a dollar to BEGIN the giving. We don’t need to look like a billionaire to start giving. We don’t need to be the greatest leader in the world to start giving. We don’t need a big mansion, a flashy car to start giving. We don’t need to be tall, plumb, fat, thin, or be a great athlete to start giving. We don’t even need a qualification, a master degree or a PHD to give. You and I don't need to be models, superstars. We just need to start..giving.

When I saw it this way, suddenly, I recognised the demand. Suddenly I realised how rich, wealthy I am. Suddenly, saw everyone around me, friends and people I don't even know, shining with a glow of amazing wealth. And I was kind of surprised why we are sad, why we are worried and why we think we have nothing to give, or if it will run out if we give too much!

I realised that we are all born wealthy. Yes, we are all born wealthy and it is only the programming we have received in our minds that we think we have to get something to then give.

Serving others, giving to others, caring for people doesn’t need us to be anything but ourselves.  Success and it’s journey is about bringing the best in others and in return, it will bring out the best in you!

That ‘best in you’ is the real you. It is the one that will carry you through your dream but most people strive all their lives to lose who they are to then spend years of searching. Yes, years of trying to figure out where they misplaced themselves in this world today.

You did not misplace you anywhere. You is right in there, the heart, and there is nothing wrong with you at all. There is only diluting that which is stopping the real you to get out!

You are wealthy beyond your wildest dreams and I am going to show you right now, how wealthy you are. So you can go out and give. Giving without wanting anything back will make you stand out of the crowd.

It will bring out the problem solver, the risk taker, the courageous, the optimistic, the one who can see answers than just problems, the revealer of supply and demand, the leader that many need to have right now, today. The action person. The consistent, the get the job done and inspiring the people around you.

Why Do You Want To Be A Leader?
Remember, I said that you don’t need anything to give. That we must give without want. So why do you want to be a leader? I ask because our mentality must change. There needs to be a shift.

Do you want to give to get a pat on your back? Do you want to be a leader because you want your name on the door? Do you want to be a leader because you want to be liked? Do you want to be a leader so we can boast to be people on how great we are? Do you want to give because it will get someone to owe you something back? Do you want to give because you want recognition, pins, and have your face in the magazine? Do you want to be a leader so you can make others feel small?

Is it because you want to raise people high? You want to uplift them and see the answers that you have seen, so they can enrich their lives?  Is it because you want to give hope and help others to have what you have? Or feel what you feel?

Is it like the song, "You Are Always On My Mind?" The song which many warp to, "I Am Always On My Mind! I am Always On My Mind." Is it all You, You, You?

What Do You Think Will Last?

With all the material wealth and all the recognition, what will last is in the hearts of the people aren’t these.

These will not last in the hearts of our children. These will not last in the hearts of our neighbours.

What will surpass all these is when you give, and live for others. When you see a problem in their lives, and you know the solution, and you give that solution. It is when we take our eyes off yourself and not ask about our goals but rather, “what does this person want to achieve?”

It is when you give and do with OTHERS that your life will be fruitful. No business, no company, no family, no organisations, community can every be born or grow, without other people. Networking, MLM and any business is about people.

And people have been hurt, time and time again because of those who think that can give and want something back. Or give to then remind what they have given when times suddenly gets difficult. Or give and boast in front of others what they have given and whose lives they have impacted and do so on stage.

What is Your Reason Of Giving?
Is your meeting then or conference call comes with some ulterior motive or is it really to uplift the people. To give them hope and show how they can do what you do!

Never have I ever seen anyone who was so bored of living, so bored of life when they are giving value to the lives of others. Never have I met anyone who is not having a time of their life when they are giving and adding value to others.

Never have I met anyone who felt they were so lonely when they have been giving and adding value to others.

Never have I seen a home empty when lodger has been giving and adding value to his or her neighbour. Never.

Someone, somewhere, in this world is thinking about you. Give them a call and be part of their life and let them be part of your amazing life of giving. Someone, somewhere remembers you because of that smile you gave while others didn’t. While you sat next to them while others didn’t. While you befriended them while others didn’t.

While you BELIEVED in them and saw what they CAN BE while others drained, and sucked the life out of them.

Is it True? What You Sow Comes Back In Abundance – Good or Bad?

My friend, it is what you sow that will shape your future today. If you sow seeds of discourse, hate, anger, ego, then this is what you will receive in the future. If you sow seeds of procrastination, lack of planning and consistency then it shall shape your life.

Where we are today is by the thoughts we think, the actions we did or the actions we didn’t do.

If you sow seeds of hope, of showing the gifts within the human being and instil belief then this is what will return to you in abundance. If you sow good thoughts and you apply with consistency, then you shall see your harvest.

You must continue to give because like the farmer who stares at his field, he or she works with faith, hope and continues to give to that very field today.

No matter sunshine or storm. No matter what result maybe. If the devastation comes then the farmer will keep on sowing those seeds and reap the rewards in the end. It is only a matter of time. So ask yourself these questions today:

  1. What seeds are you sowing?
  2. Where are you sowing? On fertile ground or on a rock?
  3. Are you consistent in sowing these seeds everyday
  4. Are you always checking if that plant is growing
  5. Or are you keeping on with your giving without want?

Day by day, that shield, that barrier in the human beings will lift from their hearts. It is not personal. It is but the baggage that they have piled onto their hearts. Maybe someone let them down.

Maybe someone has hurt them. Maybe someone promised and didn’t fulfil the expectations they gave. Maybe, they never heard a word of good to inspire hope. Whatever it maybe, you must judge them but rather you keep on giving because you have the heart of a Compassionate Leader.

It may take one day, one week or years. It is for us all, to give without want, and we will not be frustrated nor give blame when someone didn’t do what we “wanted” them to do.

The only people I have found who quit on life are selfish people. People who never gave, and so life didn’t give them much back. People who do not want to lift people and so they too are not lifted.
Remember this quote my friends, “Rising tides, lifts ALL ships!”

Do You See The Greatest Example Of Giving Today?
The WHOLE UNIVERSE is based on living with and from others. No Star is alone but it feeds off a source somewhere else. Space isn’t just space but a universe full of life, feelings, energy, and purpose that we all have benefited from.

How they all respond to us all will entirely depends on how much we are willing to give back.
We have benefited from sun that shines its rays onto the earth. The earth has given to us by shading is from its powerful rays and kept us all safe from external sources that we cannot live with.

Here we have planted our homes, our lives, from generations to generations. Have we given back or have we taken that step to destroy our planet. What we take and what we give in return will be the seeds we sow in our lives and the lives of generation to come. Have we got this kind of vision?

The flowers, plants feed off the water that nurtures its roots. We sow the seeds and in return we have food on our table. The heart pumps blood through our veins. Imagine the air we breathe and the billions of animals, and insects, plants that play a part of our lives today. Continuously giving to us, the human race.

Can you really tell me, that the earth hasn’t got more friends than anyone of us? Look around and you will realise how amazing life is when we give without want. The earth is the master of network marketing. It is the master of leaders than any man or woman on this earth today.

It is richer, wealthier than any human being on this earth today. Why? Because it has been giving to every human being, creature, and done so from day one! There is your example on how powerful giving is.

Together And the Partnership Of Giving

It is the seeds you sow that will truly make a difference to all our lives today. A day will come, when you will sow those seeds. You and I will keep on giving, until we say:

“It keeps coming back to me with great abundance.”

When you finally figured the power of Giving and you give from the heart, you will race in your giving. You will do so to make those who do not understand, think you have gone mad.

The world will see how just by you giving, lives have changed and so has yours. In that alone, the message in the way you live your life gives hope to people all over the world.

As Mother Teresa once said in regards of giving and partnership:

“I can do things that you can’t do. You can do things I cannot do but TOGETHER, we can do GREAT things.”

In all great men, women, leaders, this quality radiating from them. They give without want. They give without reminding anyone what they gave. They continue to give without being frustrated.

In the words of someone who isn’t a stranger to you, Mike Dillard, he said, “"Give without Want."
You and I, must continue to learn. Together, we will walk on this great landscape called life. We will make a difference to the lives of others. We will not let no man, woman, feel that they owes us anything but we have given out of friendship, brotherhood, love, and from our hearts.

This world needs people like you. A Compassionate Leader. A leader who changes the lives of others. Who builds partnerships so together, you do great things.

My friend, you are at the right time, the right place, to achieve your wildest dreams. You have ALWAYS been in the right time and place.

In the end, my nephew found his answer after a lot of thinking and giving him ideas of what other great leaders have done. He got an A+. How?

He got a lot of his friends, to dress up in different clothes. They rehearsed quiet a bit and each person talked about how they made a difference, and mentioning their name. My nephew stood up and said,

"My name is Terrance Stanley Fox. I was born in 1958. My dream was to collect $1 from every Canadian. I ran the Marathon of Hope, which happens in 60 countries around the world. And thousands of people enter. I raised $250 million for cancer research. The dream came true. I gave...hope to the people all over the world."

Terry Fox passed away on June 28th, 1981. One month before his 23rd birthday. He succeeded in moving a nation to act, to give and achieve the dream he held within his own heart and soul. Most people live their whole live and not do anything near to what Terry did.

Yes, you can move a nation. You can make a difference. You can give but are you willing to give, even when you see nothing back? Are we willing to give without want and do so, because we see a great vision ahead of us.

A vision to change the lives of others. A vision in which we can change someone's world.
