Poisonous Up-Line

Read More: Leadership  |  Personal Development

I have just returned home from having a meal and a few drinks with my friend, who is also my upline, and his upline who is not my friend and in my opinion "Poisonous"  I won't mention any names even though they do not participate on Better Networker.  I'm sure most people will have come across this breed of network marketers but this is aimed at those who haven't and the message I want to get out to you is RUN LIKE THE WIND.

The Meal

So we went out to quite a nice little resturaunt in town.  Nice, cozy place with friendly staff.  We all met up in a bar first and the first thing my friends up-line said was that he planned to get 5 sign ups on this "sociable night out"  and I shuddered.  I remembered back to when I was being introduced to the Business and the tactics that he tried to pull on me and I just thought to myself "I can't go through this all over again"  Even though I am a rep (and a rep with more rep's, prospects and leads than he has probably seen) he still tries to tell me that I am wrong.

We sat down to eat and he ordered a bottle of champagne?????  We were only out for a quick bite to eat.  For his dinner he had a very expensive lobster dish?????? Me and my friend had lasagne.  I quizzed him as to why he was going overboard and he said it was his first foot in the door.  I was puzzled but didn't bother to take it any further.  He said that he would pay the bill and give him his dues he did.  He also managed to slip in his business card.  This is when I started to boil over.

The Staff

So now the waitress came back over and handed him his change along with his business card.  He thought she had made a mistake.  Why wouldn't she want to get into business with a guy that just flashed his money like it was nothing.  He started pitching to this waitress right at our table and the embarrasment overtook me instantly.  My friend on the other hand sat there in amazement in awe of every word that came from his uplines mouth.  When the waitress left my friend said DON'T WORRY SHE WILL DEFINATELY PHONE YOU ABOUT THIS.  And I thought to myself "How disillusioned can you be"  This girl doesn't give a damn about your opportunity.

My Friend

When my friend first pitched to me I done alot of research and quickly realised that the methods he was being taught were out-dated, harrasing and simply wouldn't work.  I gave him links to a few sites that I had visited that taught Attraction Marketing.  He showed them to his up-line who told him that I was talking garbage.  And fair enough I don't want to dismiss anyone's opinions but this was crazy.

The real point that I want to make here is that when I remember back to how enthusiastic my friend was about his opportunity when he first pitched me and look at him now I think "What a waste"  If his up-line hadn't poisoned him from day one then he could be much more successful than he is.  If his up-line hadn't crushed all off his enthusiasm from him he could have realised that I had shown him the way forward.  Through attraction marketing and other techniques.  Not through harassing staff at a resturaunt.

So for those of you who haven't come across this kind of guy then you are doing well, however if and when you do make sure that you RUN, RUN and RUN some more before you are poisoned also.

You know what's interesting

You know what's interesting to me?

This upline fellow's personality may never "get" that he's teaching people a way of 'lifestyling it" that is so much harder than it needs to be. You gotta wonder what his attrition looks like.

We're in a new era of marketing where the consumer is very tuned in and aware of all the old 'ways'. Attraction marketing is here to stay and the uplines and companies that embrace it will not only survive, they'll propser and will also leave a measurable and tangibly "better world" in their wake.

Appreciate you Gerard :)

It's all about ME!

Gerard,

It's all about ME marketing is the part that is dead.

You gotta get over into someone else's world, find out what they want, see if there is a spark of motivation to want to take control of their lives.

We make the quantum leap assumption that because we "see the light" everyone sees the light and wants to be just like us.

WRONG!

I got a guy painting my house. Nice guy, friendly, conversant and actually intelligent and insightful. I enjoy talking with him, BUT, he has NO interest in building a business in network marketing. END OF STORY.

When you go fishing it's all about the fish.

Happy holidays!
