Does Mike Dillard's Income Make You Sick to Your Stomach?

It sure did for me because when I first found MagneticSponsoring.com I was making peanuts at a crummy sales job, sucking in recycled and stale air, and munching on yet another cereal bar from a 6x6 jailcell..err.. cubicle..

I'd heard of people making eye-popping income online in just a few years or even MONTHS.. but I just couldn't buy in to the hype.  I couldn't buy in to some dude's schnazzy program that I thought would just suck another 29.95 out of me and about half way through reading I'd realize it was just another generic ebook with absolutely NO value...

But then I found MagneticSponsoring.com... I found some leaders that actually TEACH YOU before you give them a DIME...

And I quickly realized that Mike Dillard doesn't make those piles of cash because he's promoting yet another "guru's ebook" online, but he's providing VALUABLE content.. and it is valuable because he's been there and done it...

So, what does this have to do with COPYWRITING???!!!

Well, you see my friend, the reason Mike has that income is because he GAINED THE SKILLS REQUIRED and then applied them.. THAT'S how you gain EXPERIENCE..
Some people may say "I've been in marketing for 10 years," but you know what?  That doesn't mean diddly-squat to me if they aren't on the top of their game, if they aren't using the most cutting-edge resources, or if they CAN'T or WON'T teach me how to implement them...

Look at how much the internet has changed just the past few years.. Staying up with the times is crucial to your success.  You've probably got to learn video marketing, article marketing, myspace and facebook.. or whatever new tactic comes along to market your opportunity...

But one SKILL that will ALWAYS be valuable.. one skill that will NEVER get dated or old is COPYWRITING...  Sure, it's another thing that has progressed and will continue to progress in the future, but the difference between your capture page having a 2% conversion rate and a 20% conversion rate can be the difference between bad copy and good copy.

I put together some incredibly helpful resources that I've used to help with my writing, because GOD KNOWS I NEEDED IT!  I have an engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute... I'm better crunching numbers and doing complicated junk in Excel than I was with my words.. But when you see the VALUE associated with picking the right words and CONNECTING with your prospects, you start to envision the GOLDMINE that awaits you and your business..

So, buckle your seatbelts.. here we go!

The first book I read was "Hypnotic Writing" by Joe Vitale.  You should be able to pick it up at your local bookstore, but it is the cornerstone to my writing abilities now.  I'm listing this one because it just doesn't imply that you should do one thing or another.. it's actually got several CASE STUDIES and examples for you to read.  Joe also asks you questions to think about the examples like, "Why is this better than the other one?", "Why did I change this or that?", or "How would you change the wording in this sentence to make it more hypnotic?"

Now, you aren't going to go out like the Pied Piper and HYPNOTIZE everyone to follow you, but what Joe Vitale is talking about is the power of suggestion.
Again... using your words to create a response (and ACTION) from the reader.

Well, how do you elicit that response?  You need to emotionally connect with your readers... keep them interested, on the edge of their seat, and salivating to learn more..

And let me tell you... this was where I used to stumble and fall like a little baby.  My vocabulary was horrendous..  My sales copy would be along the lines of:

"Buy NOW if you don't want to be broke" or "CLICK the darn button before I find out where you live, dummy" or "pleeeease buy this so I can pay my rent this month..."

... not exactly good copy.. (ok, I'm exaggerating, but you get the point!)

So, how did I grow a better vocabulary without reading the dictionary from front to back?  Well, you don't NEED a huge vocabulary!  In fact, Joe Vitale says that your copy should be readable by a 5th or 6th grader.. Why?  So your reader can concentrate on what your saying.. they can concentrate on the MEANING in your sentences, rather than reaching for their dictionary every 2-3 sentences..

You just need to use the RIGHT words..  The words that will CONNECT with your prospect EMOTIONALLY..

So, put simply - how did I know what emotional words to use?  Well, I cheated.  Yep, I cheated...  I can't be Stephen King or Joe Vitale or even Yanik Silver.. What I did was use what's called a SWIPE FILE...

A swipe file is a collection of examples from around the web, from newspapers and magazines, from ALL OVER... pages and cutouts that you've collected over time of good examples of sales copy.

Now, I didn't have all sorts of time to go clawing through the pages of Google search results, so I just cheated and got someone else's swipe file...

This should be enough to keep you busy, but remember: BUSINESS DOESN'T PUT CASH IN YOUR BANK ACCOUNT!  PRODUCTIVITY AND RESULTS DO!

After you do your sales copy, you need to make your page ASAP and drive some traffic there and TEST.. TEST.. TEST!

Continuously tweaking your page will increase your results and your copy will get better and better!!
