Randy Gage's MLM Manifesto - Legit, Hype, or Scam?

Read More: Gossip  |  MLM News

Randy Gage's jewelry and makeup may be a bit distracting to me personally, but his message is right on track.

All serious network marketing professionals need to come together and stop fighting over "their" piece of the pie, and make the pie bigger by eliminating so much of the negativity surrounding the industry of MLM.  We need to make it seen in the public eyes as a viable and ethical means of distribution for unique products not suited for typical retail distribution.

#1  We need to understand and eliminate the horrendous business practices in our profession that lead to government harassment, media attacks, and negative public perceptions.

#2  We need to discover the mistakes many marketers make over and over and over again that prevent them from ever creating real and lasting duplication.  Your failure to duplicate, handicaps more than 90% of all others in your organization.

#3 We must learn the common lies of MLM.

NOT "everybody can do this".  If I'm trying to sell a thick, juicy porterhouse steak to a vegetarian, I will never convince him that this is exactly what he needs and hat he needs to share the opportunity with a friend as well.  One MUST have an entrepreneurial mindset to participate in MLM.  We also need to understand that marketing is not about the product, the comp plan, or the leadership of the company.  It's not about selling at all, IT IS ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS.  Being an expert on the product, comp plan, or any other aspect of the company is not replicatable and trying to be, will lead to years of grief and frustration.  NOT all personalities can be specialists, yet all personality types can duplicate a system.

Celebrities DO NOT sell products, they sell HYPE!  Do not be fooled, there is a difference, and no networking company has ever succeeded with this as their primary strategy.  The celebrity doesn't understand how the business works and this method for producing wealth or garnering leads is NOT duplicatable

STOP the Urban Myths.  Donald Trump never said, on ANY late night TV show that he would go into Network Marketing, if he had it to Bedo all over again.  The majority of ALL millionaires were NOT made in network marketing and NO Ivy League college or university has ever taught MLM.

MLM is NOT a quick and easy way to get rich.  Anyone telling you that you can run it in 30 minutes a day or 5 to 10 hours a week and make a living is feeding you a line.  If you work MLM full time, it could still be a 4 to 5 year committment, maybe more to create an income you're comfortable with.

You CAN NOT use small business tactics when you are claiming and selling big business results.  Ridiculous car window "Seeking Apprentice" flyers, buttons and yard signs have never made anyone into a multimillionaire overnight.  If you're just looking for a couple extra $100 dollars or maybe a thousand a month, this may work for you, but if you're serious you simply need a different strategy.

#4 We need to understand the role social networking will play in the future of network marketing, how to prepare for it, and why old school tactics do not work!

#5  We need to understand the deceitful recruiting practices and know how to protect ourselves.

Spillover is not your magic bullet and will not fund your retirement years.

Beware of anyone claiming tremendous earning upon first arriving in the company.  They have simply rolled their entire team of scammers over into this new company and produced hyped up results. This practice is deceitful and unethical.

Beware claims of high percentage payouts.  These have "breakage" points so people never qualify for full commissions and the money goes into company slush funds.

Beware of claims that you can purchase a "Sweetheart Deal" where positions exist that are already producing an income.

Beware of anyone using the terms "On Track For".  I'm "On Track For" $100,000 dollars this year.  Yeah, if I made $10 last week and $100 this week, I'm making a 10% increase every week.  Don't believe it!

And if someone says, "I'll build your downline for you." then what do they need you for.  Why don't they build their own downline and not worry about paying you to NOT work the business?

#6 We must learn to recognize scams, pyramids and Ponzi schemes.  These companies operating under the guise of an MLM company need to be shut down at al cost.  We need to know how to protect ourself and how to shut them down.

#7  Lastly, we need to unite in the spirit of cooperation and make the coming years the "Golden Era of Network Marketing that will be talked about with reverence for decades to come!"

In Gage's MLM Manifesto he recommends a number of links for more information and a course of action.  I further recommend the information found in Michael Dlouhy's book Success in 10 Steps.

Great summary, Randy. I have some team members that are really excited about this paper. It's an easy read and worth the time. The next step is what we do about it.

A lesson we all need to learn

You've touched some great points, Randy.
We need to become critical thinker.
That is the only way to survive in this industry.

I appreciate you,

     That's the

That's the ticket...we have to do it right.  We have to start representing our industry with the integrity that it deserves.  Those who come into this industry with the intention to get rich quick or create some kind of hyped up misrepresentation should be dealt with in their own companies in losing the privilege to do what we get to do.  We have to rid our industry of those who are greedy (I didn't say motivated...know the difference) and we have to be ready to step up when we see ethics violated...even if it will cost us money.

We have to realize that our business is people and we have to do right by people by building relationships.  In building relationships we can see if what we have to offer is a fit for our prospects. It's not about JUST TAKING THE MONEY AND MAKING THE SALE... To just be out there signing people up, not really caring if the individual has the right motivation, determination or means to support their entrepreneurial dream is not fair to them or to us.

When people come to me I interview them as if I have to pay them $100,000/year.  I tell them what will be required of them and if they want to walk away that is fine by me.  I don't want them to spend their money if they aren't going to do what it takes.  I have been fooled before by those who say they are self-motivated, but they fail because they had great talk...but NO ACTION.  Lack of self-motivation.  In this business...we have to let people know right upfront that they MUST BE self-motivated to do WHATEVER IT TAKES if they truly want to succeed.

I think we have been afraid for a very long time to tell people that this is really no different than getting any other kind of business off the ground...barring the fact that any real opportunity will have a duplicable system to offer, tools to work with and major support.  Oh and one can begin to make good money in less time that a brick and mortar business.

But let's say it the way it is...it's advertising...it's sales---it's about connecting with people to see if what we have is what they want.  Or if what we have offers them possibilities/options they didn't know they had...but will give them what they want.  As Mr. Trump says...take the advertising agency out of the company and it opens up an opportunity for those who either have those skills or want to develop them.

I have studied Donald Trump...he is one of my favorite people...if you haven't read "Why We Want You To Be Rich" with Robert Kiyosaki or "Think Big and Kick Ass" I highly recommend that you do.  In "Why We Want You To Be Rich", you can hear exactly what Donald Trumps thoughts are on network marketing.  It's mostly related to self-motivation.  WHICH IS THE KEY!!!

I am very much looking forward to Mike and Perry's class where I'm sure we are going to be given exactly what we will need to develop ourselves in the social networking arena of our business.  They bring so much value, as many others do here daily, and I think at Better Networker we have a good pulse with the cream of the crop in the industry.  I think if we all just stick together we already are making a difference and we will bring to the industry the respect it deserves.  Funny...I don't even really know half of the opportunities anyone is associated with...hmmm...thousands of people in one group, giving value...and not even being concerned with selling their opportunities!  I think we are on target here!  Take the concept to your business!

I love this group!!

Thanks for the post!

Randy's Manifesto

I read Randy Gage's original manifesto that was summarized here and something nagged as I read it that I couldn't immediately put my finger on.  Pamela touched on a point - she interviews people as if she was going to be paying them $100,000.  Putting those two nagging thoughts together it jelled into one truth about network marketing nobody noted.  "It's not the people you know, it's who they know that's going to allow you to live your dream."  I have been told and it's validated by my own experience, the people who go on to become the big players in your organization are invariably not the ones you personally bring in.

So if we eliminate the, what did Randy call them? yard and car signs and "yanky" buttons, we are losing the potential of meeting the people who know the people who are our biggest builders.  I fully understand Pamela's interview process but once again - the $500 small requirement earner may know or meet the one who has the "entrepreneurial" mindset of the big builder.

Whether you find prospects online, at a social networking site or at a yard sale the main thing I am looking for is someone who is serious about "doing" MLM regardless of the size of their financial goals rather than those who "play" at MLM.

Interesting topic and I'm sure that's exactly why Randy wrote his manifesto.

Hi Joyce,      Thank you

Hi Joyce,

Thank you for your comment...but you completely missed my point of my interview...it's not how much money they have it's their drive and motivation that they have.  I said as if I HAD TO PAY THEM...not what they have to pay me.  I have personally sponsored people who have to start out at the basic level we have, with absolutely no money, and they have turned into the hugest producers on my team.  Through sweat equity and determination.  And...I consider anyone and everyone who is downline from me...to be a part of MY team.  I will work with anyone who has the MINDSET of a champion...it's not about the money for me.

Have a great day!

Pam

Randy's MLM manifesto

You guys know he's right.

This business is NOT for everyone.

In the beginning (while your prospecting them) you explain this to them and they won't do it. NEXT.

You can cut the numbers down a little but you still need to work the business over 10 hours a week.

Randy Gage - MLM Revolution a Manifesto

I agree, ther is good information in this Manifesto by Randy Gage, and the message needs to get out about all of the MLM wannbe scams.

Michael Dlouhy has been spreading the information on all of the scams for years, and founded Mentoring for Free in 2003 as an way to educate and train those in the MLM network marketing industry.

The Mentoring for Free system (it's free, hence the name) is anchored by a book Michale Dlouhy has written called Success in 10 Steps that you can have for free.  Unlike many of the other gurus out there you won't get endless emails promoting affilate programs or being pitched to buy something.

You can also check out the video Randy Gage or Michael Dlouhy to see who the Mentor with a Servants heart is...

Best Wishes to Your Success,

Doug Karnuth

A Leader for Sure

I agree with Randy Gage as far as what's really needing to be done to wake people up about the problems with many individuals in the Network Marketing industry. It's obvious many things DO NOT work and you can see it all over.

His examples about all the FLAIR and items that repel many business minded people from even thinking about starting a Network Marketing business should be revealed to set some stories straight. It's a major turn off to anyone who wants to be themselves and not flip out or go KOO KOO for Cocoa Puffs.

There is another hitch though... if you have the most ethical and professional distributor representing an unethical business owner or CEO, it's obvious there may be some bad things ahead for anyone, no matter how great of a sponsor/recruiter they are or have been.

The Business Model drives the behavior in the field which leads everyone to treat others the way they do.

Great article Randy!
