Rush Hour 2

"Do you understand the words coming out of my mouth?"  shouts Jackie Chan in my all-time favorite movie!  My daughter and I have the lines memorized.  I used to live in Asia, and when they say they're going to slap em back to Bangkok, well, they are just two hilarious actors!

Now how can this apply to consumer direct marketing? I recently heard in Hitch with Will Smith that like 60% of what you say is in your body language, and 30 percent is tone.  That only leaves 10% for the actual words.  Now many companies out there give you the words to say.  Are you going to shake people and yell, "Do you understand the words coming out of my mouth?"  Better not!

So, a much better technique is to develop posture.  Mike Dillard has definitely done this.  First of all, his name sounds like a well-rounded person, shoot, it's a major company in the malls.  Any relation?

Next, his voice is very appealing.  He makes his videos well.  Simple.  He has a bookcase or desk in the background that is very clean.  Pristine.  You know he's busy, but he's not cluttered.

Now if we could all have that posture, of "I'm going to help you."  He gives free videos. That is all part of the relationship building.  Obviously you cannot throw a CD out the window, as in Rush Hour, and expect your friend to respond well to you if you are not in relationship with that person.

So many times, we try to do our "warm chatter" and ask the person at the store, or the waitress if they would like multiple streams of income.  Do they know you?  Do they know your success?  Get in relationship first, and then they will understand the words coming out of your mouth.

On a tangent, this is much like sharing the gospel.  In Austin, there were people who stood on the drag telling you to repent.  How much better would that time be invested in a relationship with someone.  Then it can come more naturally to share the plan of salvation.  Tell people that there is a free gift, and it's available to all.  The Spirit can indwell you on earth, and you CAN go to heaven for eternity.

When I was in college I had never heard John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever should believe in him can have eternal life."  I can't believe I grew up, going to church occasionally, watching football games occasionally, and never heard this.  It was only while studying in the beautiful architecture library on campus at UT that I saw it written on the desk, and went home.  My roommate and I were encouraged so greatly!!

Finally, I will link this to the beginning.  I was also greatly encouraged this week, on Sunday.  We went to the Thai restaurant which we frequent once a week.  Usually, it is pretty empty, but on this day, God brought in a Thai lady who knew people I knew in Bangkok.  We shared about Ajan Tongshy and Ajan Winnit and David Johnson and Tim Owens.  It was AMAZING!  Wailai goes back to Thailand this week, and we were greatly encouraged to meet one another in a small restaurant in Arlington, Texas.  My experience in Thailand is one reason why I appreciate Asian culture and why Rush Hour 2 is so funny to me.
