So You Want To Be Rich. Are you Sure?

In his book, Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, T. Harv Eker says there are three levels of so-called wanting.  The first level is "I want to be rich."  He says that's just another way of saying "I'll take It if it falls in my lap".  In other words, "It would be really nice if I was rich, but I'm not willing to do anything about it."  Therefore, wanting alone is useless.

The second level of wanting is "I choose to be rich."  This is more powerful and it entails making a decision to be rich.  It involves being responsible for the outcome and for making it happen.  Choosing is better than just wanting but there is still a better level.

This level is the third level of wanting which is "I commit to being rich."  And I'll just let Mr. Eker explain it.

"The definition of the word commit is "to devote oneself unreservedly." This means holding absolutely nothing back; giving 100 percent of everything you've got to achieving wealth.  It means being willing to do whatever it takes for as long as it takes.  This is the warrior's way.  No excuses, no ifs, no buts, no maybes - and failure is not an option.  The warrior's way is simple:  "I will be rich or I will die trying."

I can honestly say that there was a time in my life that I was stuck at the first level.  And then sometime after starting my first business I moved to level two.  You see, jumping from level 1 to level 2 only takes an instant.  It only takes that moment of decision.

However, moving to level three, I believe, takes a little bit longer.  At least it did for me.  See, you can't make a commitment, or you can't prove that you've committed  until your decision is tested by adversity.  That's when you know that you have committed.   When you endure challenges that test you, yet you still keep getting up, dusting yourself off and taking action in spite of them.  It's when you can say,  "Do or die.  Now or never."

And, by the way, this doesn't just apply to being rich.  How many people do you know that say "I want to be thin" or "I want to be lose weight"? Probably lots.  Most people will always be stuck at level 1.  Just merely wanting but never having because they won't commit to doing whatever it takes.

So the question you have to answer today is, "What level am I at?"

Are you willing to work a full-time job, come home and then work relentlessly on your business?

Are you willing to give up weekends, recreations, and hobbies?

Are you willing to sacrifice some family time, and even leave friends who are dragging you down?

Are you willing to risk money and time without any guarantees of return?

Are you willing to take responsibility for your own success?

Are YOU committed?

Because you want to know something, if you're not, I'll bet you either work for or are following someone who is.

So You Want To Be Rich. Are you Sure?

Hi  Yisel Guajardo;

Hey I guess I'm cool, see I pronounced your name right.

I really enjoy your articles especially this one. It kindly goes
with I wrote  a couple years back. I thought about uploading
it here but since you have such a good article I don't need to.

Thanks for visiting my site.

Yisel, Nice Analysis of the Three Levels of So Called Wanting

I'll have to look for the book you were referencing. It sounds like a good read. This article is a good reminder for the level of commitment it takes to reach one's financial goals (or any goals). This article should force everyone to evaluate their own level of wanting. Thank you.

Great article Yisel

I think I will favourite it, concise, easy format to remind me why sometimes my family think I should be comitted lol :)

I too recognise the stages and took a while to reach the committed to being rich level but I sure am there now.

Looking forward to more of your insights.

Warm Regards

Debs

Great stuff. And I'm glad

Great stuff. And I'm glad Ferny pointed out this out me! :)

Many people think they're at a higher level than they really are and as you point out, it's only when the tough times come and your committment is truly tested, that you get to see at what level you're really working.

Without a doubt everyone who 'makes it', has previously failed, but (luckily for the rest of us) they got back up and tried again.

I totally agree

I agree with everything you wrote in this article.  Just wanting is not enough.  You need to be so commited that you have not left yourself a back door.

Awesome Article

Awesome Article

Harv Eker's book is phenomenal, and so is this article. There are many tests on the way to success, and only through complete and unrelenting commintment can any of us hope to pass them!

Thanks for the great content!

Thank you, Yisel....

This is perfect.  Just what I needed right now.  You see, I have gotten some bad news (no, "challenging" news) about both of my business ventures this week.  I've been somewhat reeling from the news, and working on my next move.  But, this really gives me the right perspective to dust myself off.  I've been at level 2 for a long time.  This moves me much closer to a 3.  Time to kick some ass.  Thank you for your insights!

Focus

Thanks for a great article. Knowing what you really want and keeping focused is so necessary.

I love this statement - "Are you willing to take responsibility for your own success?"

Incredible Article

Thank you for sharing that great knowledge. You did a great job making it easy to understand and it really made me stop and analyze where I am at in the three steps.

I also added Secrets of the Millionaire Mind on my list of books to read.

Thanks Again,

Mary

Yes, once "level 3" is in motion, there is no turning back.

Great to meet you Yisel through this article.

Awesome Article

Yisel, great article. I must say that I have moved from level 2 to 3 in the past 2 weeks.

I think the thing that pushed me over was seeing a decline in sales at my job and knowing that I have a business that will supply an unlimited amount of income.

Just getting more involved and reading success stories helps me to know that one day I will achieve what others are experiencing now.

Again thanx for the article, you keep up the good work.

Time

Time is a factor to committment for sure. I think one of the hardest to overcome to get to point 3....but it can be worked on. Maybe harder for those who have families to be able to set their priorities.

Thank you for the article, it's good to be reminded again of how necessary it is to have the right mindset.

Blessings

Thank you I needed this

I have been questioning my level for some time now. I have been working on network marketing for about 7 months now. Previously I was working a full time job, trying to start a franchise and study Mike Dillards info and working with Ferny and Ray. Things were going great, making lots of money in my job, the franchise was moving forward and my mlm was cranking. BUT.....there is always a but, since July I lost my job in the mortgage industry, my mlm crashed and burned and we had to completely redesign our franchise program. I am at the point I need to either S%^t or get off the pot so the saying goes. I guess I better get back to work. Thanks again for the inspiration. Keep them coming.

You're welcome!

You're welcome Tom!

You're a real trooper.

You reminded me of what Napolean Hill said,

"Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit."

Good Things to Think About

Hey lady,

Great article..

Like many who can say the same..

That's when I knew I was in.. I was not going to be denied..

What we argue for we get to keep.

I made a decision to argue for prosperity..

In that time I  lost "so called" friends,  I lost my way to the

living room where I used to watch I think they call it the T.V.

I've lost track of time and I've had some roadblocks that would

have sent my packing in my prior life..

When I finally made the decision to vote my self in..

To live what i see in my head and not settle

my life turned upside down..

And though some of it was painful in the moment it

ALL has been in the sake of growth.

Keep posting pretty lady!!

You are a walking reward for many!

Peace & love,

JoAnn

Great article

Thanks Yisel - that step from level 2 to 3 in all areas of life is most challenging. In fact, I was thinking about all of this today in conversation with a friend, and I was comparing committing to wealth creation to physical fitness. It's useful to determine why we may committ to one area but not another in life... ah but therein lies the joy of learning and growing with change!

Awesome Yisel!

The reason the "wanting" phase fails is because you never actually get what you "want". When you say I "want"____ (fill in the blank) the universe just replies in the affirmative OF THE "WANTING" not the getting of what you want..."

So, when you say "I want to be rich" that's what you get... just the feeling of "wanting" but never actually "being" or "having". That's why NOTHING moves until we commit to "being" rich ;-)

Seems counter intuitive at first, maybe over the head of some of the readers but it is the truth!

@Stephen, Hey I believe this counts as SPAM!
Like the rest of us, I'm sure you believe you have a great offer. Lucky for you, there is a place to post it...just NOT as responses or comments to other peoples articles.

Why not write us an article explaining the pros and cons of what you have? That way interested people can inquire about it as comments and replies to you!

Sincerely,
Malika

@Malika

Excellent point Malika.

People who WANT don't DO because they really don't believe they can HAVE.

Whereas, when you know it's already yours, then you'll take the necessary action.

yisel (not verified) — Fri, 09/26/2008 - 4:07pm

Couldna said it better....

..this was a great article. If it's ok with you, I was inspired. I learned something new, even though it seemed so simple, people make it so hard on themselves. We all want....but do we commit ourselves to what we want? Classic. If you ever have time to spare, check out my article, "Admit It, You Like Failing (Part 2)", it's somewhat similar. I'm going to be following you in the future...keep up the great content.

Great artilcle!

I see it so many times that people spend all their time making plans and none of their time with actions.

Kudos for hitting the nail on the head!

David Blide — Thu, 01/22/2009 - 8:10am

People think I have lost my mind but nope Im level 3 thats all

My goal is to be the best of the best. And I will do everything it takes to get there. And the great thing about our business is that we CANNOT succeed without helping others succeed. Its a beautiful thing

bradscottmarketing (not verified) — Tue, 01/27/2009 - 12:01am

mmmmm

Very powerful stuff! Its almost like there is this barrier to becoming wealthy and you keep getting pushed back by it heaps of times until finally it gives way due to your persistance as it deems you worthy of your results.

i think i'm somewhere between 2 and 3 at the moment.
