Social Networking 103
Let's talk about Prospect Guy and the What are you Reading group.
So far Prospect Guy has sent an email back to Fly Fishing Guy thanking him for the birthday wishes. They still haven't caught up for a chat.
Prospect Guy is also a member of the What are you Reading group and notices one of the members is reading Fly Fishing 101. Prospect Guy was thinking about buying it. So Prospect Guy writes on What Are you Reading guy's wall.
"Hey I'm in the Fly Fishing Group. Just wanted to know what you thought of Fly Fishing 101. Let me know."
A little while later, What are you Reading Guy replies on the Prospect Guy's wall,
"Yeah it's a great read. Well worth it. Add me as a friend and we'll IM"
So Prospect Guy does so and later on that night they have a deep and meaningful about Fly Fishing but the What are you Reading Guy is not a member of the Fly Fishing group so Prospect Guy gives him an invite and now they're joined in two groups together. Our newest member asks Prospect guy about the type of people in the group and lo and behold he starts talking about Fly Fishing Guy and how nice he is and how he is meaning to catch up with him about his company.
What are you Reading Guy is also interested. So Prospect Guy gives him his details and he adds him as a friend.
This is the third level of social networking and this is actually my favourite part of social networking.
Instead of dragging your friends and family into 'the opportunity of a lifetime' you introduce a casual acquaintance to someone you thought was nice, but they have something else in common besides 'becoming rich beyond measure.' They can talk about Fly Fishing until the glaciers melt.
If What are you Reading Guy, follows up Fly Fishing Guy on his opportunity, it has NOTHING TO DO WITH Prospect Guy. He is not responsible if the company goes belly up, or if he loses all his money. The onus is on the individual. There is no responsibility here.
So the key to this level is actually a well guarded secret.
Can you guess what it is?
