Social Networking 201 - Social Graces - Lesson1 Humility
When social networking, as in life, we feel it's all about us. It's our show. We are number one. That is great self-esteem. However not such a great social grace.
Because most people feel everything is about them, they want YOU to feel that too. They want you to be interested in them, because, it's their show, not yours.
So here we are faced with a conundrum, How do we present ourselves firstly to ourselves, to friends, to people, and to the networking community with humility, but also be able to attract?
I'll briefly talk about Alpha Male/Female and Sociopaths. Alphas attract people automatically with their strong air of confidence, ability, charm, intelligence etc. Everyone wants to be an alpha or go out with an alpha. However, sometimes alphas unwittingly forget about how to care about others therefore becoming a sociopath. Sociopaths lack the ability to feel true emotion, are parasites in nature and quickly dump anyone who is of no use to their survival.
As an aspiring/estabilished alpha it is important to maintain your humanity with humility. Alphas are obvious and they don't need to sprout about their achievements. But to fully leverage the alpha power you need to take interest in others. I know you probably don't have time to care, and you probably really don't care anyway, but you must look like you care. You must act like you care. Take some lessons from the sociopath in this regard. They are geniuses in faking care.
Send those birthday greetings (time consuming but cheaper than buying a lead), comment on someones photo, remark on their status, play a game and LOSE to someone.
Almost impossible for an alpha but try to OK, it's important to make others FEEL more important to you even though, frankly, they are not. Don't go all humanitarian on me now and lovey dovey about saving the world and really caring about others, because we are in business here people, save the niceties for your spare time. I say it as it is.
You want to be the star of your own show. As we ALL do. There's the rub. There are millions of shows going on all the time. The trick to dominating social networking and thus becoming the alpha is to pretend and interact with all the other shows going on and start writing reviews on what you see.
