Social Networking Etiquette

I was lost and now I am found after watching Perry Belcher’s video on Social Networking.

I am a Facebook junkie, a wannabee twitter and I hung around MySpace long enough get a lot of spam. I knew that these were tools that I could use to build my business but did not want to flagrantly promote my business in the place where I have picture from my fraternity days 15 years ago.

Then Perry came along and made it all clear –

Here is the video in summary.

Social Networking sites are analogous to a party. You go there to hang out and meet people and casually get to know them.

If you like somebody and want to further the relationship, then you invite them to your house.

Your house in the Internet arena is your Blog. It’s talks about what you do. It is a place where you can share some facts about your life. It allows people to get to know you on a more personal level.

Now, if people want to know what you do or are interested in checking your business, then you can have a link on your blog to your website.

The website is where business gets done and where people can buy the goods or join the business.

I hope this has as much value for other as it did for me.

Definitely

You don't do inappropriate things on the social networking sites if you would not do it off line. If this new person was a new contact it would take time to build the friendship before you started selling him. Another example is if a lady is in a relationship do not comment on her looks, comment how good is she at doing something. Like she dances to the beat well.
