Social Networking Sites: How to Use Them
There has been a lot of spam slamming around the social sites lately. Twitter, MySpace, YouTube, Facebook, Pounce, Facebook, etc. It gets a bit confusing (until they spam you) to separate bona fide people looking for friendship or conversation from people ONLY out to sell their product of deal.
But, you do want to meet people who want your stuff. So how do you let them know what you have without spamming? If telling them about your offer is spam, then how can you be on the social sites and talk about what you are doing? It’s your passion. Do you bite your tongue?
If you want to know how to use social sites, watch Perry Belcher’s video on using social networking sites . It is very straight forward. No nonsense. And puts the social sites in perspective of life in general. We are all in life, right?
Perry’s explanation just makes sense. Social sites are like a party. Go there. Have fun. Meet people. Socialize. Make comments to support people. Ask what they do. Tell them what you do if they ask. Make a friend. Invite them to your blog.
Now, your Blog is like your home. So you invite them home to socialize some more. Show them your pictures, maybe a good movie. Tell them what you like to do. Who you are. Share common interests. Tell them what you do for a living. Give them some free tips.
They may or may not be interested in what you do. But they may like who you are and be interested in your other interests. So you can invite them to be on your newsletter list and send a newsy update every once in a while.
At some point in the future they may have a friend who is looking for something that you offer. If they like you and trust you they will say to the friend—“If you are looking for xyz, check out this person. They are very helpful and have great connections.”
And there you have it, a referral from the social networking sites. Works just like on the street.

Claire ~
That was a good video, I guess I feel like I am walking up to a new person and extending my friendship. First I read their profile, find out who they are. I always tell a little about myself as a way to introduce myself. I can leave my link as part of my signature and that is polite? It is part of who I am? If people want to know more, great! If not that is OK too. I am here to make friends, I am here to learn and I am here to lend a helping hand, if they so desire. I try to be very respectful, because that is how I would like to be treated. :-)

Thanks, Connie.
I think you hit the nail on the head. Treat others like you would like them to treat you. The golden rule applies in all situations.

Social Site are Building Relationships
Thaks for this article. So many people out there really have no idea how to use a social site. It is possible to get business from a social network without spamming at all. I go into a social site with the expectation that I will gain many new friends and one backlink to my main site. Clients come much later - and they do come. I am currently pulling about 10% of my business from the Internet and the other 90% from in-person Networking.

Good Summary of Points
Nice work Claire.
You've done a nice job of reviewing Perry Belcher's main points. It shows that people are craving this type of learning and understanding about Social Networking Sites. After all, Perry's video has had over 16,000 views. And this article over 350 reads.
This is an area of high demand, and it's only going to get more and more sophisticated. I'm glad you're riding the wave and contributing. Claire, you have so much to offer. Good to see you in front of people.
Keep up the great work.
Perry Belchers video was
Perry Belchers video was great and I wish all those people that spam me on the social sites would take a look at it. You can enjoy meeting people and maybe make some money. It seems like so many want to make money fast with the biggest opportunity. They wonder why nobody is interested in the business but it's great there are people that want to help them out.
