Are You Selling or Attracting

Are you selling or attracting? Do you know the difference, and why does it matter? Likely you’ve heard that no one likes to be sold but everyone likes to buy. It’s a fact. We go into a store, as a salesperson approaches and says “May I help you?” Our first response is to say “No thank you, I’m just looking.“

If, however we see something we like, then we’re looking around and saying, “Where’s that salesman?” What’s the difference? As they approached us, we didn’t have any questions, because we weren’t sure what we wanted. We wanted to be free to discover things for ourselves. Then it would be our idea of buying. No pressure. No salesman at the elbow asking questions. We love to buy.

When we’re selling there’s pressure on the customer. There’s also the prospect of the customer rejecting us and our message. Can  we take that pressure away? Can we avoid the rejection? Yes, we can!

When we arrange things so that the customer contacts us, it takes the pressure off them, off us, and reduces the rejection. I always hated buying leads, as I had no control over where they came from or how they were produced.

How can we get a customer to contact us? Several ways. Posting articles online is one way. If you have a link back to your site in your bio, interested people will follow the link. Advertising on the internet and in local publications.

Mailing postcards. Using drop cards locally. Participating in social media, writing a blog, and offering good advice and help in forums. There are a number of rejection proof ways to get in front of a suspect. Once they see something they like, they’ll contact you. Now it’s their idea.

I always enjoy talking to people who have contacted me first. This is because I know they’re already interested in what I’m offering. Now I am talking to a more qualified prospect. They have shown interest and taken the first step.

Do they all buy or join my business? Of course not. The good news is I never have to be pushy. I can stay true to my personal code of ethics. I never have to manipulate or lie to a prospect, and I always have people to talk to.
