As a Networker, do you mostly Compete or Create?
As part of an overall master strategy for running an MLM business, the approach or attitude the Networker brings to the enterprise will go a long way in determining success or struggle. And when all is said and done, it comes down to whether Creation or Competition is the Networker's rallying cry.
Network Marketing or MLM is not like a conventional business. In that world the model is competition with domination the ultimate goal. The metaphor is war, best illustrated, as we all witnessed in the '80s, with the popularity in the business world of such books as The Art of War and Leadership Secrets of Attila the Hun.
Though things are slowly changing, it is sad to say there is still too much of this attitude to be found in Network Marketing today.
Originally the MLM model worked so well in building trust, loyalty and wealth that it inevitably attracted the less scrupulous: It was co-opted and bastardized by the corporate world. So successfully was this done I might add that I frequently talk to people about their businesses and they brag that their company is publicly traded, as if it were part of the Dow Jones Index!
Honestly, an MLM company that's publicly traded has its first allegiance to the shareholders and not the distributors. So is that such a great quality for us as distributors?
MLM from its inception was meant to be done one-on-one, building one relationship at a time. It is a relationship and teaching business, not a numbers game. Today with all the online help available and all other technologies, the main thing that's changed is that we don't have to drive hours to a meeting. This leaves us more time to devote to training and building our organizations. But the one-on-one rule for relationship building still holds.
The 'Slow Way' is the 'Fast Way' to retention and long-term wealth.
We have entered a New World with a new awareness. People are slow to trust and rightfully so. Competition means a winner and a loser and Oh! how many times have you and I been on the losing end of that! In or out of Networking.
Wouldn't it better serve us all in the industry to be practicing Creation, like the building of Relationships and Responsible Wealth?

I do not like compition
I want everyone to Win But you need Education that leads to Creation. So I am all about Creation there are so many possibilities if we just quit ripping people off and bring honor to Network Marketing were it rightly belongs.
Make people aware
I've noticed that people who tout that their company is publicly traded seem to think it's some kind of important badge to wear, when in reality is could be what strangles the company/distributor down the road. People need to be made aware, so thanks for sharing truth Tony!
Since When Can We Place Our Trust In The Stock Market !
Quick Story For You,
A former co-worker of mine put in 40 plus years of service to my company, and he was more than deserving to receive everything that he was entitled to from the pension fund that he put his money into for many years. Well long story short because the stock market tanked he received a thousand dollars a month less than an estimate that he received a year ago. My advice for anyone who is banking on the stock market. Never count your chickens before they are hatched.
Thank You Tony,
Your Friend For Life,
Steven Squillace :-)
Tony, Excellent article!!
"MLM from its inception was meant to be done one-on-one, building one relationship at a time. It is a relationship and teaching business, not a numbers game." As you stated the corporate world is now involved and is lethal. People please listen to Tony, he knows what he is talking about. "Originally the MLM model worked so well in building trust, loyalty and wealth that it inevitably attracted the less scrupulous" Now it is co-opted by the corporate world." Please re-think and re-read Tony's article, there is tremendous value here. Thanks Tony
Think for yourself!
Tony, you point out a really important idea here. Listen to what your company is telling, but think beyond the hype! Figure out the motivation behind the story. Think about who is the driving force. Who will benefit? It can be a lot like politics. Sometimes the headline story cannot be taken at face value!
More On Relationships
Tony you are right about relationships in this section. "But the one-on-one rule for relationship building still holds."
No matter how good the company is managed, if the company stresses recruit, recruit, recruit the company will barely keep its head above water or go bankrupt.
And if the company is poorly managed but the relationships with the know, like and trust are there then there will be community and your group will follow you to the next company that you will be involved in.
Powerful Truth!!! Thanks Tony,
Hi Tony,
This is really refreshing and just down right true... It was time to be told and you told it with great clarity my friend.
Thank and May God Richly Bless You,
Danny & Laura
Another thought-provoking post...
A laser beam of truth: "MLM from its inception was meant to be done one-on-one, building one relationship at a time. It is a relationship and teaching business, not a numbers game."
You summed it all up for me with: "The 'Slow Way' is the 'Fast Way' to retention and long-term wealth." Beautifully written. I appreciate you, Tony. Thanks!
