Network Marketing: Making The Call

So what is the best time to invite someone to look at your opportunity?

When is the right time to make the call?

When You Think It Is.
That’s right, it’s up to you. You’re going to have to trust your gut instincts.
It’s going to have a lot to do with your relationship and your instincts.
But you’ll never know this with 100% certainty, so if you’re going to err, err on the side of taking a risk.

What About Internet Leads?
So what about the leads you generate from attraction marketing? Shouldn't I just let the
"system" do it all for me? When should I call these people?

Well.... Now would be a good time.
Whether it's a lead from a website or someone you met in the park, at some point you're
going to need to pick up the phone and talk to people. Automation will only take this whole
process so far. Even with super qualified people, you're going to need to talk to people.

So don’t just sit around waiting and wondering.
You can always come up with a reason why it’s not the “right” time or why “not” to invite someone.

You may have butterflies in your stomach and you’re nervous, but guess what?
That doesn’t mean it’s the wrong time….
That just means YOU are nervous.
That’s all – Don’t Let It Stop You.

You have to take a risk to get a reward.
Remember that…. You have to take a risk to get a reward.

The best fruit on a fruit tree is way out on a limb.
You’ve gotta get out on a limb or climb a really talll ladder to get the best fruit.
That’s where it’s at.

So if you’ve got those butterflies, just jump in and do it anyways – Take The Risk!
What’s the worse that can happen?

Don’t paralyze yourself and your business by sitting there fretting – pick up the phone and dial.
Make the Call….

Live Long and Prosper…

Making the call

Your absolutely right Richard, I believe that most network marketers fail because they can't get over making the call. The fear grips them and they lose every time. You either live in fear or live in faith. Fear loses every time. Go Within or Go Without.... Great article.

Thank You,

Frank

The most Valuable asset for any marketer..The Phone

I agree, Richard, 100%.

The telephone and the easy to learn skill of effectively using it are the foundation of any Success directed marketing Business.

I have enjoyed a comfortable Self-employed Home business lifestyle for almost 50 years because of the ease of consistent Daily use of the telephone as a relationship building and marketing tool

I have publicly made the statement, give me access to a phone in any city, and I will generate business and develop relationships with eager customers in a short period of time.

The Internet has allowed us to personally reach a larger targeted audience more quickly, but that list must be personally contacted.
I have shown many how to enjoy 20-30% conversion of "lead" to paying customer through the effective use of the Telephone, direct mail and e-mail.

Hundreds, who were hesitant to "pick up the phone", are now enjoying abundance from a simple one-on-one Coaching Program. usually within an hour their Fears are gone and they learn how to establish a successful Habit pattern

Writing Blogs or Picking Up The Phone?

I enjoy both. I think the telephone is at least equally as important as writing blogs, if not more so. In my experience, if I spend too much time doing activities where I am not in direct contact with people, then I get rusty on the telephone. I am a one to one person. This is where my skills are. I enjoy building rapports, and providing value by listening.

As for inviting people to take a look at my primary business, it depends on them and their level of interest and desire to change. When picking up the phone it is important to realize the sale doesn't have to be made there and then. The conversation can be continued. Each conversation doesn't have to be a long conversation. It does however, need to be structured, meaning knowing what questions to ask at what time.

Thank you for posting this Richard.

True! True! True!

Thanks Richard for that reminder. I have been so busy online everyday that my day to day calls have been put on hold for two months. When I was making the calls and scheduling the time to share the info, my business was growing. Yes and it took my upline walking me through a phone call to get over my first fear of calling someone I knew.
Great Post

Building Trust

Being a beginner to the industry I assess this business to be based on trust. Many people still believe this to be a "scam" or pyramid scheme. Blogs and social media are great especially for lead generation, but I still believe the best way to speak to a persons heart to influence them in a decision is to speak directly to them in person or by phone. There is more emotion involved and ultimately that is what you are speaking to when you talk to people. Majority of people buy on emotion.

What if all you have is an e-mail address?

Great post, Richard. One question. What if all you have is an e-mail address? Too many people on the internet are hiding and not giving personal information. It's kind of like having a one-sided conversation, if all you don't have a phone number.

So True

You are go right, Richard. Sometimes the things that are easy to do are the things that are easy NOT to do. Staying consistent is critical! Thank you.

The Phone Call

Hey Richard, this is one of the best articles out there. It's so good because it is so simple and to the point. You have waved a red flag in front of me and given me a call to action. We all needed this wakeup. Thanks a zillion!

Hi Chris... I would

Hi Chris...
I would recommend adding a phone field to your form if you want your initial contact in your sales funnel to include contact via phone. I'll caveat by saying, each field, meaning each additional piece of information you request from a person may lower conversions, but it may also provide higher quality leads. Of course the catch is - will they provide a number and if so, is it legit. This all goes back to the trust factor. Does your funnel present you as a person they can trust or just another pitch with someone wanting to sell them something?

Morning Monica...
That's a powerful example. Your business WAS growing. I bet most people could say the same thing if they've had the experience. I know I can. There's no doubt growth stalls when your business isn't being fed. As for upline walking you through the process - I agree 100% It's a massive part of the training I'm putting together for my team in fact. Teaching people how to mentor the people they bring into their business. I've heard far too many stories of people who are left stranded by disappearing sponsors once they get in.

Richard Bravo — Wed, 09/16/2009 - 11:38am

Strongly Agree!

Thanks Richard! So true...the system only does 1/2 the work...fhe funneling. We have to do the other 1/2- the relationship part! :)
Many are tired of people that just send you links and expect you to buy and jump on their opportunity. What happened to what Mike and the team teach us all? It is sad that many of these "pitchers" are in these programs but haven't learned a thing! :(
Thanks for your leadership Richard!

I think I missed a Good Connect

I was networking with some people on twitter and facebook, and had really connected with someone whom gave the impression that he was successful, and we started to send messages back and forth, then we exchanged #'s and told me to give him a call...

but to be honest.... I was intimidated.... and didn't know when to call, what I should say, what if he finds out that he's more successful then me, What value could I possibly bring to this guys life? I'm just a beginner and still working a full time job and living with parents :-( what kind of connect would he consider this??

so all these insecurities, doubts, and fears I allowed to hold me back from a connect that could have taking my business that much further. And it just so happens that this guy is in direct contact with a person I look up to in the industry. And At the time I didn't know that which made me regret not going out on the limb.

The first time

I remember my first cold call, I must have sat in front of the phone for hours going over every scenario! It just took me telling myself just get it OVER with! I dialed the number and remembered to smile while I spoke and it was easier than I could have expected. I can say that if you BELIEVE in your ability to help others achieve their goals, its very easy to get that across with sincerity. Thats magnetic!

Be excited

Thanks for a great post Richard.
Why do we always complicate the basic stuff?? In saying this I am speaking to myself first. We always worry about... Are we going to say the right thing? What is the other person going to think or say? Are we going to say too much or too little? etc. Decide what you want to say to the person or people you will be contacting, write down on a piece of paper and read over it a few times, to get it into your head, then throw the page away. You don't want to sound like you are reading from a script. In most instances (particularly in the good old fashioned Network Marketing senario) you just want to get an appointment. Stay focused on the reason for the call and don't be drawn into explaining your business over the phone. The main thing is keep it to the point.

The phone gets lighter after the first call

If you make a habit of dialing before you have time to sit and reflect, it will become automatic, and the fear of calling will evaporate!

Michael Kitchen — Wed, 09/16/2009 - 7:17pm

Thanks, Richard

That was very well said.
I also believe that it is very important to build relationships and then see whether there's a fit with the lead or it is simply interest.
We do need to talk to people. Absolutely!

Personal relations

You are right Richard, this is a real personal contact job. Without this contact there is no possible business. As you say this is a simple statement, but it is the center of our "universe", that's why you have such an amount of comments. "WE" agree with you or "WE" are not in this business for real!

Great post Richard. If you can't connect with people you will fail.
The phone should be your friend. Building relationships and helping people is very important.

Making the Call

Hi Richard.
Thanks for that. - Makes sense to me.
Though, it would be nice to find myself in that situation.

The challenge I have is obtaining those confirmed leads in
the first place. Any guidance here would be appreciated.

Best Regards - Keith A.

F. Keith Ager — Fri, 09/18/2009 - 5:31am

Hi George... Absolutely I

Hi George... Absolutely I agree. The relationship is vital. What you said about looking for a fit, is right on. I use that terminology alot myself actually. "Check it out and let's see if there's a good fit." or "Look it over and let's see if we have a good match for each other." I like trying to point out that we are BOTH testing the waters - it's not a one way conversation. Really helps with your posturing. Thnx for the comment - cheers! ~RB

Richard Bravo — Sat, 09/19/2009 - 9:51pm

F.Keith...

Hi F.Keith (do you prefer F.Keith or just Keith?)
You know it really has a lot to do with how YOU move people through your sales process. Getting a "lead" is really simple actually. Getting a "good lead" or a "qualified lead" is another matter, as you've seen. Which is why it's so crucial, in my mind at least, to not hide anything from people. Be open and honest about what it is YOUR expectations are for this as well. I think that's where so many people see that bad side of the industry.

It's not so much that 98% of networkers are crooks, they just haven't been taught how to build trust and be honest with people. There is far too much out there teaching people to hide the "mlm" word, and creates a vibe that what we do is wrong. Well how do you think your contacts are going to view it? If we can't even be proud and tell people up front what we do - Why the heck would they want to do it?

Make sense? Sorry, there's a lot more I could go into but I don't want to rant in a comment.

Fernando, Chris, everyone

Fernando, Chris, everyone (sorry if I didn't mention your name =] )
Thank you for the comments. It's a really neat thing to see so many people are still excited about doing this business the "right" way and see the human component is still a vital aspect of this industry.
