Buying MLM Genealogy Lead Lists vs. Getting Qualified Network Marketing Leads For Free
Leads are the lifeblood of network marketing, whether they come from purchased genealogy lists or are marketing-generated. Knowing where and how to get your leads can be confusing, and this review attempts to simplify the decision.
When I first started out in network marketing, I was advised to buy a genealogy list from a list broker and start hitting the phone calling fifty a day. The advice made sense until I learned what some other pros were doing.
The basic premise in pursuing genealogy lists is that network marketers are prone to jump from one company to another. So, you may increase your chances of successful recruiting by presenting your opportunity to someone who has already demonstrated a predisposition to working in the MLM industry.
This approach sure beats cold-calling, and streamlines your marketing efforts since the prospects are not skeptical, and you may reach them during the cycle of when they are looking for something new.
A simple online search for “MLM Genealogy lists” reveals that leads lists are available form many sources. Once you click on a few vendors, you’ll discover that the prices range from ridiculously low to amazingly high.
On the low end, one list vendor offers the names and phone numbers of 12,000 people who have signed up for Goji, for a mere $99.00, and the same vendor has 350,000 leads from Fortune High Tech marketing for only $399.00
When you do the math, the low end is about 9 leads for a penny!
Further investigation will reveal that other vendors offer what seems like the same leads for $6 to $14 EACH!
What’s the difference?
First, the lower-cost leads are not qualified, except for having joined a company at some point in the past. Who knows what has happened to them since then? Are they still interested in network marketing? Are they still with the company, or have they moved on to another opportunity?
Some of the information on the bulk lists is several years old, and has been sold multiple times to marketers who have the same goal as you do. This makes the lists “stale” and increases the possibility that you will meet sales resistance by prospects who are jaded to telephone solicitations.
The higher priced leads claim to be “fresh” or “exclusive” and that sounds good on the surface. However, if you remember your own enthusiasm upon starting with your current company, would you welcome a call about switching out to another opportunity so early in the game?
What I didn’t know back than was that whichever list you buy, it’s a numbers game. You’ll have to go through hundreds or thousands of calls to find a few good prospects.
At first I went with a cheap list and started manual-dialing each prospect. The amount of wrong numbers and hang-ups was disheartening. But I did get good at leaving voice messages. Well, come to think of it, no one ever called me back, so maybe my technique wasn’t so hot.
Then my sponsor advised buying premium lists. I spent way more than I ever thought I would, and after a few thousand leads and no recruits, I gave up. I was broke.
I looked around on the Internet and saw something interesting. Reps in another company were actively recruiting on Facebook and YouTube. They weren’t on the phone all day running down leads from a list! It looked easy, so I started looking for leads online. That’s when I discovered the big secret of lead generation.
My first few months of online marketing were pretty dismal. I didn’t know what I was doing, and got ZERO results! But I did meet a lot of other marketers trying to nget leads online! In a chat with one of them, I was introduced to the concept of attraction marketing. But where to start?
My friend told me about an online attraction marketing program he was using to get leads. Not only did it work, but he was learning to get leads on his own, for FREE. But I didn’t take his word for it.
All the hype I’d run into online, and all the promises of the lead vendors, had made me skeptical. But still, I needed help. With a bit more searching I discovered a few programs promising online lead generation instructions for network marketers. Some seemed a bit thin-- appealing to the lowest common denominator -- dumbed -down. A few others were more serious, and had testimonials from MLM professionals who had generated thousands of leads on their own! (And these better programs all taught attraction marketing.)
Needless to say, I chose one, dove in, and never looked back. Since then, I have found a way to generate several leads a day, on autopilot, at no cost other than the time it took to set things up.
My advice to any marketer considering buying leads is to closely examine the source of those leads, and to test the quality of the lists by purchasing only the minimum. That way, you won’t blow your entire budget before you find a good source.
If you want to use attraction marketing, be prepared to give it a few months or longer to start getting results.
While working a good paid list can be faster than waiting for attraction marketing to kick in, it makes you a slave to the list vendors. Learning how to get your own leads online is a skill mastered by many professional networkers.
Since in-depth training something not offered by any network marketing companies that I know of, all of the pros have relied on third-party instructional platforms for their marketing educations.
When considering the cost of buying leads, versus the expense of learning how to get your own, factor in the leads-to-sales ratio. You may get fewer leads using attraction marketing, but those leads will be more apt to buy from you!
