I Know You've Got A Great Blog-But Did You Make Any Money This Week?

Read More: Sponsoring and Recruiting

Do you ever get caught up?

I mean…

Do you ever get really caught up in all the madness?

Have you gotten SO involved in social media…

In getting friends and followers…

In building nerve centers and learning SEO

Ever get caught up in selling a few nickle and dime affiliate dohickeys and making ten bucks…

That somehow…

Someway…

You forgot what is was that you started out to do?

I mean really…

Ask yourself…

Am I getting closer to the goal I had when I started…

Or am I wading deeper and deeper into the marketing quagmire

That SO MANY of my social media buddies are getting stuck in
like quicksand?

I mean…

I know you have a great blog and all…

But did you actually make any money this week?

Did you actually make any presentations for your program this week?

Did you sign anyone up?

Serious…between you and me…

DID YOU???

Sting a little bit?

I thought it might.

It is SO DARN EASY to get caught up in all the STUFF

That you forget the DESIRED OUTCOME of your activity.

Remember once upon a time you wanted to create a residual income
so you could stay home…

But somehow that slipped away and now you are a busy beaver working
at all kinds of things…

And MAN O MAN are they cool things.

Let’s face it…

The stakes are higher these days…

And if you don’t have a fully optimized wordpress blog
with an amazing theme plus custom graphics and a matching set
for your Twitter and YouTube…

Well basically…

If you don’t got that stuff you are a LEPER.

So you stay up all night for weeks on end…

Beat your head against the wall

And actually learn it all…

Which is SO FREEKEN AWESOME

Except for one thing….

You ain’t made a presentation for weeks…

Your upline is pissed…

Your check is tanking

Your wife wants to kill you and

Your kids don’t remember who the heck you are…

But DAMN you got a cool blog!!!!

Just a little something to think on…

A friendly public service announcement from the
Digital Dork That Could

As Steven Covey says…

You need to begin with the end in mind.

For if you forget your outcome for just a quick minute

You can wind up pretty off course and with all kinds of skills
that will be useless a decade from now.

Never forget…

Network Marketing is a business of PEOPLE

Learning how to maneuver people.

And I haven’t met a blog yet that can do it.

An excellent copywriter with a hot blog…

YUP

And excellent speaker with a blog

YUP

Any kind of off the hook COMMUNICATOR with a blog…

OH YEAH!

Average guy with cool blog…

Zilch…

Zippo…

Nada.

Which is pretty much the same at the contents of his bank account.

Advice for the ages

Spend more time on understanding the people than the technology.

Do that…

And you have a shot.

And now my conclusion to you my fine friend.

You pioneer doer…

I know you are cause you wouldn’t have read down this far if you weren’t…

Your answer for 2010 and beyond lies NOT
in Social Media…

But in
Social Psychology

Take a look around at every leader that has ever graced this industry
and you’ll know my words are true.

All the best to you…

Coolness

I like how you write, Diane.

Super easy to read.

Oh, and of course the content is killer.

Nice wake up call!

How did you know?

Diane,
Great article, you're definitely on the money speaking to spending excessive time blogging and working with social media. I know it's true because it was happening to me too. It's so easy to get caught up and next thing you know your business is suffering for it!

Everyone using social media needs to be mindful of how that time will affect their bottomline everyday.

Keep it rolling Diane!

I think we are all a little bit guilty

Great article, it is so easy to get distracted with the tools and forget why you actually aquired them.

Diane,

I needed to see this. I can be quite chatty and slothy.

Thanks.

Our Intent

Diane,
Again you hit the homerun. Many of us that have awesome people skills do get caught up in the "how to's" and put our true talents on the shelf. I agree it is time to shake the dust off and just get things done.

Understanding Blogging???

I have yet to start blogging. I'm one of those nutty perfectionists who most likely would ever be satisfied with my blog.

Thanks for the advice Diane. When I start I'll be sure not to go overboard.

Diane is always on the Mark..

Being an owner of a lot
of Internet Real Estate does not guarantee Success
or a healthy Bank account.

The one "skill" or "mindset" not usually discussed in this
contrived politically correct world is the
NEED to Ask for The Sale.

I know Diane will enjoy this simple Audio I produced
last year for a Group session

Love your coaching, Diane!

Absolutely true....been there and done that! You are so right, we start building our business, then we learn about all the SEO, blogging and social media and it completely distracts us from how we built up till now...and boy, there are many "guru's" out there, that want to teach you the right way. Wouldn't you agree? Then you truly lose sight of where you are going and just wasting the days away with being busy but not productive. I am sure all of us get caught in it, especially without a great coach...I appreciate Diane what you do for this industry and your coaching!!! Much LOVE to you!

Guilty as Charged

Wow, that was a kick in the teeth and I'm guilty as charged. Enough screwing around on this computer, it's time to get back to the basics of sponsoring and teaching others. This social media thing isn't nearly as cracked up as it sounds, face to face is much better. There are too many people on this site talking about selling their marketing method and not enough selling their opportunity. It's just a big circle of people selling the same product and you never find out if anyone is really doing well in their MLM company. A little more proof would be nice if this stuff really works.

Steve Tarini — Fri, 11/27/2009 - 12:43pm

Very good

Diane.Hi!

Very nice. I do like your style.
And Man Oh Man if I really agree with your article.
The 8th vote is mine

So true!

Thanks Diane! This is so true. When I think of starting my own blog, my first thought was it may take me away from what I need to do..SPONSOR distributors.

Susanna Fera — Sat, 11/28/2009 - 11:54am

A blog is just a tool

Great post Diane. Absolutely spot on. So many guys selling affiliate products and forgetting althogether about their MLM.

So busy NOT TALKING about their MLM that they end up never talking about it at all!

I've found my blog to be the best communication tool in 7 years in the home biz industry but the bottom line is I give value and entice people into my funnel!

So many bloggers have pretty graphics but don't remember to add in the funnel bit which is a killer for building an MLM.

Very well said Diane.

Rachel Henke — Sat, 11/28/2009 - 4:43pm

OUCH!!

Heck of a wake-up call. Nicely done. Sometimes it's hard to hear the truth; especially when it's like an arrow shot right in the heart!

Joe Sandy — Sat, 11/28/2009 - 5:50pm

You hit the nail on the head

Diane
Thanks for the kick in the backside. Straight and to the point. I think we all fall into this trap from time to time. I am getting myself out of it today!.

Ian Brown — Sat, 11/28/2009 - 7:20pm

Excellent Article

Ditto to what the people above me said.
It's so easy to get caught up in all the internet stuff. And, yeah, it is the way that I would like to do business but the signing up is where the money is and till I see that happening online, I am still going to be investing in my face to face business.
Thanks.

New at Blogging

I'm real new at blogging, I feel like I'm missing the point, Blogging is communicating with your readers in form of advertising and used as a tool for writing about your business and developing and Relationship with people that read you blog! Theirs People making a great living at just Blogging, Spending time on a Blog is just as good as socializing with social media, Or like I said I missing the point, I guess it's all about spending to much time Blogging SORRY I'm just to know for blogging

Beware the Techno Jungle

I want to get my blog going too but don't want to get bogged down in the techno jungle as I did on other projects. Are you saying that that stuff should be outsourced? That we should focus mainly on the communication and maneuvering?
Like the previous comment, isn't the blog a form of communication?

Tony Hadley — Sun, 11/29/2009 - 6:48pm

Blogs are Tools NOT Your Entire Business Model

Thanks Diane,

This is an increasing problem as more and more networkers jump on the internet marketing band wagon and try to out-market each other. And as you rightly say, "Begin with the end in mind". MLM is a PEOPLE business, your main focus should be on developing relationships with people. It's important to remember that blogs and all the peripheral stuff like Social Media are just tools in your toolbox and it's how you use them to develop relationships that count.

Best,
Wayne

BLOGS => try OUTSOURCING

Hey Diane:

YES -- you hit the nail on the HEAD!

With all the noise right now, about - Attraction Marketing - Web-02 -
Social Media Networking - SEO - PPC - Blogs - on and on -- we can
easily get "lost" in the insanity of concentrating on the WRONG mission.

We can get "swept away" with the (important) pressures of -- creating
good CONTENT -- giving high VALUE -- attracting quality prospects into
our SALES FUNNEL -- yet, never 'getting around' to talking with them
about the main PRIZE =======================> our BUSINESS.

BUSINESS 'PROFIT' - As you said (so eloquently) in one of your Videos
recently - our main mission for being in 'business' always, always ought to
be ====================================> to make a PROFIT.

And this can be done "along with" making a DIFFERENCE in many lives.

Personally, I believe that, on our TO DO List -- at the top of "every" action
we're about to engage in - each day - we need to ASK ourselves => will
this (action) lead to helping me Build My BUSINESS (generate cash flow)?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BLOGS - And yes, in the 'current' marketing environment, I do feel that a
Blog is very important. A good Blog (serving as a central HUB) can help us
"attract" prospects, for sure -- but the big "technology learning curve" and
the heavy "time constraints" that many of us have -- these can put us "way
off course" from our primary objective => to "build a profitable business".

In order to DO that, as Leaders, we need to be => "talking to lots and lots
of PEOPLE" - on the phone//skype - in our e-mails - by direct mail, and by
cards - via webinars - on team coaching calls, etc, etc -- and this all takes
a big TIME committment.

OUTSOURCING - I believe this is the "best" answer for many of us. In my
own case, I am weak on the "technology" side, plus I have some severe
"time constraints". As a result, the construction of my own first two Blogs
(Wordpress.ORG + Hostgator) are currently outsourced - to people who
'do' have the technical and the marketing expertise, as well as the time.

Just my own 03-cents worth on all this (Canadian :>)

THANK YOU Diane - for another great "dose of REALITY"!

Warmly / Peter A.

Hand in the Air

Hi, Diane.
You couldn't be more right. This article is a great reminder to us all no matter how little or how much money or how many leads we generate--it's all about people.
