KISS Your Way to the Top!
Just about everybody knows who Albert Einstein is. He's the father of modern physics. His most famous contribution to the world of physics is E = mc2.
It's a hugely profound equation that describes how energy and matter are directly related to each other. It's the equation for the creation and destruction of life.
The beautiful thing about it is it's very, very simple. Anybody, whether it be a 3rd grader or nuclear physicist, can remember it by heart.
In such a philosophical science, Einstein had the uncanny ability to make things simple. Here's one of my favorite Einstein quotes:
"Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the opposite direction."
As you become a leader is this business of network marketing, you'll learn that a critical success factor lies in Keeping It Simple, Stupid.
A good leader is one who can make things simple.
I was on a recent training call with MLM legends Art Jonak and Jordan Adler, the author of Beach Money.
On that call, Jordan Adler revealed his "8 Year Old Test", which is basically "If an 8 year old can't teach it, don't do it."
An 8 year old kid should be able to do this business of network marketing!
And when you think about it in these terms, it absolutely makes sense. It goes completely against traditional business convention. But we know where many traditional businesses are headed in this economy.
Here's just a shortlist of why it's so important to keep things simple:
- Prospects can easily understand your business. A confused prospect will always say "No!"
- Simplicity builds trust. When you keep things simple, people can see if it will work, if it is logical, if it makes sense to them.
- New people can start building quickly and easily. The more things a new distributor has to learn, the slower the growth of your business.
- Save yourself time and energy. The more support you have to give to a new distributor, the less time you have to build your own business. Of course, be there when they need you, but you shouldn't have to hold their hand all the way.
- Simplicity makes things fun. Theres 2 ways you can build this business. 1) Easy, lucrative and fun or 2) Hard, lame and frustrating. Which do you prefer?
All we need to do to build this business is talk to people and share our opportunity with them. That's it.
But because we want to avoid the pain of meeting people and making new friends to hang out and fun with, we create so much more pain for ourselves by getting stuck into direct response marketing, copywriting, SEO, PPC, making blogs and so on.
The internet is a great place to meet people. It doesn't have to be complicated. It should either be a last resort for those who have an absolute aversion to meeting people face to face, or it should work hand in hand with simple offline prospecting.
My friend Marcus Baker said it beautifully:
At it's core network marketing is very simple. Ironically, although Internet Marketing presents us with a huge leveraging opportunity it can also put too much in the way of the simplicity that is required.
The simpler you can make the process of building your business, the less dependent your team will be on you, and therefore, the more free-time you'll have to enjoy your financial independence.
