To be as effective as possible in both your personal life and your MLM business, you must have balance.

To start, you’ll achieve a lot more when you focus on understanding others rather than getting them to understand you.

For your communication ability to nourish you both personally and in business, you first have to understand and really hear others. Concentrate on understanding the message they want to get across, and you will understand what’s important to them.

Most of us spend our time struggling to get our own message across to others. Here’s the problem - they can hear all the effort you put into having them understand you, and they decide that you are just like everybody else. They’re looking for someone to listen to them. They want understanding. But all you want is for them to listen to you. Result? A big battle of egos. You may win that battle, but you’ll sure never build your network.

To paraphrase Zig Ziglar, “To have what you want in life, you just need to give enough other people what THEY want in life.”

What others really want is understanding. So give it to them. Really listen to them. Really understand. Soon enough, it will be returned. And your personal and MLM network will build effortlessly.

Listen, Listen, Listen...

Listen, Listen, Listen! I agree with you Ernie, once you learn the skill of listening without an agenda and to be totally there at the moment with who you are with in the moment that is when the door labeled SUCCESS will open for you! I believe Everybody's core being desires to be Heard and Validated and those that will do it will reap the rewards

When You speak You only know what You know. When You listen You know what others know. Every effective leader is a good listener.

I Love it Ernie,Thank you for sharing and as always giving GREAT Value!

People skills and listen carefully

The amateur doesn't listen and is thinking only about
themselves and the money they can make...it doesn't
matter if the product or service will serve that person.
If you want to make net*work*marketing your profession
you MUST learn people skills and to listen carefully.

Listen with your heart.

I like what John C. Maxwell says in one of his books.....To connect with their hearts, use your ears. It's so important to listen between the lines. It's important to pay attention to the factual content of the conversation, but don't ignore the emotional content. Everyone has a story and most are all too happy to share it. :)
Great content Ernie. Thanks for sharing.

Listen to Them

Great point! We must rid ourselves of our Ego and Agenda and just learn to really listen to people. By listening, understanding and helping them get what they want we will inevitably get what we want.

People st want to be heard

Great article Ernie. You are so right about listening to people when connecting with them. All people have feelings and emotions and they just want to be heard. It is more important to listen to them and learn more about them than it is to do all the talking and they loose interest.

People just want to be heard

Great article Ernie. You are so right about listening to people when connecting with them. All people have feelings and emotions and they just want to be heard. It is more important to listen to them and learn more about them than it is to do all the talking and they loose interest.

I couldn't agree with you

I couldn't agree with you more Ernie! That is one of the most important lessons to learn in our lives. We are so ego centered, if everyone would learn that they need to control that instinct we would have a happier world to live in. That's not really practical, but if you are trying to build a business or friendship that's the way to go. Thanks so much for this message.

Egos

Ego: "You may win that battle, but you’ll sure never build your network." Well said Ernie and so true.

Listen, Listen

Great insight Ernie. Everybody knows we have two ears and one mouth. Most people just don't understand how important it is to use the two ears. Your article here pointed it out in a very simple clear way.
Thanks - Debi

Listen And You Will Be Blessed!

The golden rule, the greatest gift is "love". When we listen we love others. It feels good to truly care by listening and loving others. Excellent Article!

Two Ears, One Mouth

Listen twice as much as you talk. You most likely will hear what people are saying, great reminder, couldn't agree more with your article and the posts above. Good job, everyone.

Great Article..

To whom much is given, much is required.

This is a great point of view and an essential key to building relationships in our lives and in our business. We must listen to others in order to establish what their needs/wants are. This article just proves that we have two ears and one mouth for a reason.

Hey Ernie...great job of communicating to us what we all must acquire...the skill of listening...Thanks to your article and the comments of the others the point of applying duct tape and listening is well taken.

I Hear You Ernie

Ernie, I believe listening is a great talent. I also see how people ego's get in the way. You need to listen to people, prospects, partners, team members,ets... and then give genuine answers. If you are uncertain, just say it, you are uncertain, but will see if you can get answer. You need to let go of your ego, and be HONEST. Listen to mind and heart, and speak from those places. You don't need to pretend to be a know it all or someone special. Being someone who is unique and different is refreshing. People like that. Napoleon Hill's states in think and grow rich "keep you eyes and ears wide open and your mouth shut" Great article Ernie.

Therese Catanzano — Mon, 02/08/2010 - 7:43pm

Definitely

You have to put yourself in the prospects situation or else nothing works!!

I agree with you.

The people who say when one business does not work try another. That is in traditional business. I do not think that is the case in mlm or in any other business. People will have to first believe you if they want to do business with you or even hang out with you or else nothing matters.

Sincerely
