MLM Training - Why The Scams Use Multi-Level Marketing

Read More: Sponsoring and Recruiting

There is a range of ways in which a company can elect to promote their products to their target markets and distribute their products to paying customers. The most common ways are the classic shop window or storefront, direct mail, telemarketing, the internet and network marketing or MLM.

Take a real close look at each of these promotion and distribution methods and you will find that, by and large, the vast majority of companies operate legitimate and ethical businesses. Equally, you will find that there are scams or underhand practices being employed in each of these operational methods by scammers or those who have little regard for business ethics.

What are business ethics?

It is outside the scope of this article to argue the point from the view of the MBA student or the occupational psychologist (although it would be a lot of fun) in trying to come up with a relatively simple definition of an ethical company.  An ethical company is one which makes the lives of both its consumers and its staff better, regardless which distribution method the company chooses to use to make their products widely known in the marketplace.

It definitely isn’t the distribution method through which a company chooses to operate that decides whether or not it is legal or ethical. It is the practices and tactics used within the company or organization that determine whether sound business ethics are part of its values and operating principles.

Okay, if you accept that there are scams being run in all of the promotional and distribution methods employed, perhaps you’ll also accept that no matter what type of company or organization you look at, you will find scams and unethical, underhand practices.

Given that there are scams and unethical practices in almost all walks of life, why do the scams use multi-level marketing?

Why? Because multi-level marketing is so powerful.

Within any legal entity, you may have unscrupulous employees who are running scams. You can have a legal and ethical MLM company which has leaders in its employ who are running a scam.  In other words, they’re tricking people.

And so it doesn’t matter which distribution method you use.  MLM just happens to be very effective and powerful because it uses word of mouth, and word of mouth passes much faster than any other method of distribution.  The reason MLM gets so much attention is because it is so powerful -- and that is why the scams use multi-level marketing.

This means that it is up to all of us who are part of the network marketing industry to make sure we grow our businesses ethically. To do that, get customers first.

In other words, get enough customers, and get products out to the consumer.  If you don’t know how to get customers, go for training. Then learn how to train other people how to get customers, because if you don’t teach them, then what will happen is they will recruit people into the business -- and neither they nor the person they have recruited will know how to move products to a consumer.

Now you can get a distributor, and bring that new person into the business. You get one new person into the business and then teach that person how to get customers. Once that person can get customers, you teach them how to get distributors.  This isn’t just the ethical way -- it’s the most effective way to grow your business. I am sure you get the idea.
