Having the Best Product is NOT the Most Important Thing
You've all seen them, people running into the coffee shops declaring they have the best product EVER and you need to check it out. If this is how you're building your business, you are making a fatal error.
There are many excellent products available through network marketing today. I will not even attempt to make comparisons because I believe the highest quality products in the country are represented in this industry. There is a reason for that; legislation passed in 1994 prohibited nutraceuticals from being able to make claims of their benefit (a law supported by pharmeceutical companies obviously)-so this led to many companies choosing to use network marketing to use member testimonies since they personally couldn't make claims.
Because of this and for many other reasons, the quality of products in network marketing are extremely high. If you are in a network marketing wellness company, chances are your product is top quality. So for that reason alone, it's quality will NOT make it the primary vehicle that is going to help you stand out.
Though emotional products are important- choosing a business overall needs to be on data not emotion. Here are the questions I needed to answer in choosing a business to build:
Whose behind this and what's their character?
Is the compensation plan aggressive yet also reachable for the average person?
Is the comp plan a binary, break away, matrix or unilevel? (if you don't know these and which one is better, feel free to ask)
What is the market timing for this company? inception, starting hyper growth, continued hyper growth, or maturation?
What tools do they offer you to market with. Does it allow you to develop YOU as the product?- customizable.
What is the product?
Notice product is my 5th question- it is important, but the first 4 determine success.
In fact- last year I was sitting in a booth at a restaurant at the Riviera in Las Vegas with a well known network marketer who was calling contacts about his business. These contacts were highly successful network marketers all who made well over a million dollars a year in their different ventures. I listened carefully to their questions they asked as he presented his opportunity. For the most part, their first two questions were the same as mine. With all of them, the product was one of the last questions they asked.
Going back to my original illustration with the coffee shop, all of us at Better Netwroker already know that's not the way to do it. Simply realize that product is important, but it's not nearly the most important thing.
