The Truth About Generating Leads Online.

When I first got started with my online business nearly 18 months ago, I did not have a lot of money for a marketing budget.  I started to study all kinds of ways to drive traffic and generate leads “the free way”.

I did articles, blog posts, press releases, videos, etc.  I got really good at syndicating all of my content as well, via pinging, social bookmarking and using article directory blasters.

Let me tell you that it was a whole lot of work for a trickle of traffic.  I did generate my first 400 leads this way, however it was clear that it was not the best use of my time.

Sure there are some Mavericks out there that have been able to generate 1000’s of leads writing articles, however, whatever they were doing, were not very duplicate-able and there were some hidden tactics that they were not sharing to produce those kinds of results.

Bottom line was, free traffic was not scalable and I wanted a scale-able way to generate leads.

Here Is Where The Big Dogs Play

PPC or Pay Per Click Marketing has been around since the early 1990’s.  Today, it is how every top earner in this industry generates leads and does business online.  Sure there are different variations of PPC, but the fact remains the same, PPC is King!

The reason why most people stay away from it is lack of knowledge and education.  In order to become successful at PPC marketing, you have to become a student of it. Those who don’t and jump right in, without reading “Perry Marshals Definitive Guide To Adwords” or taking a PPC course are in for a very expensive ride.

PPC can eat you alive in a matter of hours on Google and Days on Yahoo and Bing.

Once you get a hang of search and content marketing on the PPC networks, it’s very scalable traffic and you can generate as many leads per day as you want, granted you have the budget to do so.

I guess what I am really trying to get across here is, people have a big misconception that they are going to get into internet marketing and build a sizable business using free marketing methods.  No stinkin’ way.  He with the most drive, determination and marketing dollars is going to have the largest income and business, period.

The days of squidoo lenses and writing articles to generate traffic are over- due to the amount of spam out there on the Internet. 

I am not saying not to write, if that’s what you like to do. Just don’t do it to drive traffic.  Do it to brand and position yourself as an authority and to offer people valuable information.
