A Secret to Getting Your Prospects to Remember You
What makes a person an interesting speaker?
Is it flamboyance?
Is it because they are energetic?
Or maybe it is their charisma.
What’s the secret?
Is it telling a good story? Is it painting a picture that they can easily see in their own lives?
If you can get your audience, whether it is one person or a crowd, to be able to see what you see. Then that is great communication. That is the trick.
How about an example of this techinique.
Most people might say:
“You are what you eat. Good nutrition will make you feel better.”
Boring, right?
Most listeners won’t change their thinking or their lives by this statement. Most likely they will just think it is good information.
Got a better idea?
Instead of saying the above statement, try this instead.
“Do you know what your body is made up of? It’s not made up from the air you breathe or the friends you hang out with. It’s made up of what you put into your mouth.
Now for some of you this could mean your body is made up of lattes, scones, donuts or candy bars. You know who you are. But you may still be a bit skeptical, so let’s take a test.
How you feel depends on what you eat. It can be proved.
If you eat a McDonalds quarter pounder with cheese, how do you feel afterwards? Very stuffed, probably bloated, (you should of taken your enzymes), sluggish and lethargic.
If you eat six Crispy Cream donuts, how do you feel shortly after? Wired. Maybe you have the gitters. But how do you feel one hour later? You are coming off your sugar high and you are crashing! You probably feel a nap coming on.
If you eat Chinese food, how are you feeling an hour afterwards? Probably hungry. And bloated. (Again, should have taken those enzymes)
How about a six-pack of beer? At first, of course, a bit tipsy. But what about a few hours later? Are you feeling lazy, tired, lethargic, sleepy or mellow?
What happens if you drink a triple Starbucks latte? Maybe you are talking faster, or you feel nervous energy.
If you eat some spicy hot foods, how are you feeling an hour afterwards? Warm. Is your tummy rumbling or burning? Maybe a bit of indigestion? And what about the next day as your inner plumbing is doing its job?
So, am I getting my point across? It is true…..how you feel depends on what you put into your mouth and eat.
Now, don’t you think you have convinced your prospect that what he eats does really determine how he feels?
You are not just giving them a sales pitch. He can actually relate to your true to life examples because he most likely has experienced it in his life at one time or another.
Now when your prospect sits down and eats a dozen Crispy Cream donuts and washes them down with a quart of chocolate milk, or he consumes a quarter pounder with cheese, complete with french fries and a frosty, he’ll remember vividly what you said.
And that is exactly what you want.
