How are You Doing at Belly to Belly?

Read More: Prospecting

Several years ago I was dishearten by the old school methods of working a MLM business.  I went searching online because I knew people were using the Internet to let the world know of their intentions in Network Marketing.

So, when I found a system like Mentoring For Free I was so grateful and delighted that I was not going to have to hold another home meeting, enter my float in a parade, make my list of a hundred........well, I am sure you understand fully what I mean.

However, recently, my brain is getting a bigger picture to what some people refer to as “belly to belly” marketing.  When I found Mentoring for Free I was ‘so over’ the old school methods of finding prospects.

I have to say my heart is softening, my mind is being opened and I am excited about experimenting with “belly to belly”.  I realize this may sound oddly strange to some who are really good at this method of finding interested people, but I guess we all go through the avenue of learning and growing in life and business.  I see a nice blending of “belly to belly” and on line marketing in my future.

I am realizing the possibilities are endless!  It takes a whole new attitude of being mindful of prospecting throughout your day wherever you are, wherever you go.

In the past, I didn’t want to be seen as pushy, or to see my prospect rolling their eyeballs thinking, “there she goes again.”  We all have our own miss conceived ideas that we have to deal with.  Instead, I should be thinking I have a product and an opportunity that can truly change their life and then go look for the volunteers.

I am realizing if I can just change my attitude from “prospecting” to  just “making friends”, it changes the whole outlook on using “belly to belly’.  Think instead, How can I get that person to smile and feel good?  How can I brighten their day?

Become a natural at making friends.  I really don’t consider myself as that, but it is never to late to change and become your best self, right?

Just recently I heard some great advice from some top notch marketers and wanted to pass it on.  It’s a great place to start when your desire is to improve on your “belly to belly” skills.

1 - Get Smart: Gather all the information you can about this topic through cds, books, etc.

2 - Watch and Learn:  Hang out with those  people who are good a prospecting. Find a mentor, observe closely what they do.

3 - Just Do It:  Improve your skills by putting into practice what you have learned.  “Perfection will come through practice.  It cannot come by merely reading instructions.” ~from “Think and Grow Rich” ch 3.

I know, I know, for some of us it seems rather daunting at first.  It is natural to be a bit nervous, or a lot nervous!  Just do it and do it again.
If you blunder, learn from your actions, regroup and try again.

Pretty soon you will be a natural at it.  Let’s not see it as “prospecting”.

Just go out and be friendly today and have fun doing it!

I Love the "Just Making Friends" Approach

Hi Lynn,

I love the "just making friends" approach to belly to belly prospecting, and it is amazing when we realize how much we already do this in our daily lives. Example... Just yesterday when I was at my daughter's soccer game someone ask my wife "how your foot coming along" (she's in a boot). She responded by say, "It a lot better today. I used this *&$^#*$($($() stuff last night that we picked up at Walgreen's for five buck, and it took 75% of my pain away." The response was hilarious, but typical, "What was that called? Where did you get it?.

And That is belly to belly marketing and prospecting.

Thanks,

Great Content

I had to share this article with my friends because, some of them only market online, while others only do "belly to belly". This article brings out the fact that in our profession we can do both. The possibilities are endless! Thanks Lynn.

That is the Ticket

I have been on Line 2 years Built a business here but I am looking forward to taking your advice. It really should not be that hard to be friendly once I get me out of the way.

Thanks Lynn

IT'S ALL ABOUT THEM

Great point and that is the best way to meet someone. To look in someones eyes and really get to see if their is a desire you can help them. Most people have needs but you can only help if their is a DESIRE. Miss Lynn, your the BEST

Great Article!

Hey Lyn, this was a great article to abide by in this industry. We all want to make network marketing so complicated that the fact is that complication is the main thing that turns off a lot of people. Making friends is the simplest way to attract more qualified people into your business. Thanks for sharing!!!

Hey Lynn,

Great article and thanks for the reminder. As we have been told before, we have been recommending products since we were five years old. We just need to remember it's basically the same thing. Instead of our parents and family we are looking for other volunteers.

Thanks, Lynn!

I like what you said about changing your attitude from "prospecting" to just "making friends". We all know how to make friends! Great advice that I will take to heart. Thanks, Lynn!

You Can Do Anyting If You Know The Skills !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Practice makes perfect that's for sure when it comes to approaching people in person it's a whole different animal.
If we are not sure of ourselves when we are telling people about our opportunity they will see right through us like a window.

I think I Need More Belly...

Hey Lynn, good advice, and more belly to belly practice can only help, and yes we should never ignore the people we meet offline, and at the very least attempt to exchange information with them.

Building a network of business partners for life is an online, and offline endeavor so getting good at it is a must. I work on hitting a lousy single to bring in the winning run daily, and that works for me! The occasional "Grand Slam" Home Run is nice too, and nothing wrong with that. :-0)

With the right leadership skills...

You're not kidding about this.

Having the right approach can make the world of difference. In fact, they can go from being desperate to someone who has posture.

And, with the right leadership skills, who's to say this won't work.

Going "belly to belly" !

Lynn, what stuck out at me, we as marketers have to take risks, most of us don't. Today's marketing is different. Learning the proper skills and posture to do belly to belly is challenging, being friendly and not looking at it as prospecting is a great way for you to feel more confident. I know we may and will make mistakes, but that is what helps us become better at our skills. Learn the skills, making mistakes and learning from them, continuing to take action and getting out of your comfort zone area all are factors and the belief and confidence one must have within themselves. Great Value Lynn.

Quality Relationships

We need to build quality relationships with our prospects or else it does not work. The only way to do that is by having a know, like and trust factor.

Friend to Friend

You are absolutely right, Lynn, in your approach to networking. It's not just online or just belly-to-belly...It's all of the above. People are everywhere. We can make friends literally around the globe. Person-to-person...Friend-to-friend. Offline. Online. How fun is that!

Belly to Belly ...Scarry !!!!

Or Not....Like you mentioned Lynn , by just changing your attitude
makes a big difference and putting to use some simple skills learned from Big Al and other great mentors makes it not prospecting at all. Thank you so much for allowing us to see the real you

So True

My best learning has occurred through the act of making mistakes. It's what we choose to do with the lessons that matters most. Thanks for sharing, Lynn. What is the exact definition of 'belly to belly' by the way. It's the first time I've heard the term.

You are all so kind and thoughtful

Thanks everyone for all the nice comments. Trevor, I am not sure of the exact definition of "belly to belly", but my understanding is it is used to refer to face to face prospecting as opposed to online.

Nice to see when someone sees a bigger picture

Congratulations Lynn. "I am realizing if I can just change my attitude from “prospecting” to just “making friends”," One step further is solving their problem.

Wherever we are, as the book the Go Giver drove home to its' readers, solving problems on a massive scale is where the greatest income comes. Every person in that book solved a problem with the business ventures they went into and made massive amounts of money doing it.

Someone wants to lose weight? Bingo, provide a solution to their problem. Someone tired all the time? Wow, do they want a solution? You're business should provide the solution to a problem and if it does you are off and running - on and offline.

Good luck offline. Friends, family, acquaintances are just waiting for someone to come along and solve their issues. (Well there are some who don't as they just enjoy complaining)
Right On, have fun !
