How to Boost Your Success in Prospecting
Your success in MLM will be directly related to how effective you are at prospecting, presenting your opportunity, and sponsoring new downline associates.
Speaking specifically about prospecting, there is a magic key to success with this.
What if I told you there was a particular attitude you could adopt, that would dramatically increase your success in MLM prospecting and sponsoring?
Here is the key – think about this carefully.
Your attitude toward prospecting will be observed and felt by your prospect, and will dictate much of that gut feeling they get from you.
When you are approaching people about your MLM business, what is going through your mind? What is your objective? Are you focused on saying all the right things and perhaps trying to follow some sort of sales script hoping to lead them through a presentation to sign up?
If your prospect feels that you are more interested in signing them up for YOUR benefit than anything, that will turn them away. How do you feel when someone is trying to persuade you to buy something, and you get the feeling they are focused mostly on the commission they’ll make when you swipe your credit card?
On another note, when you talk to prospects, are you feeling a bit shy and reluctant to do it? If that’s the case, that comes across in a negative way also. I’ve often taught that the best thing is to just get out there and start talking to people, and gradually overcome that fear.
I’ve quoted this encouraging thought many times – “you can hardly say the wrong thing to the right person, and you can hardly say the right thing to the wrong person“. While that holds true, you can surely increase your success in MLM overall if you become more confident and bolder in your approach.
So how do you avoid turning prospects off with an “all about me” attitude, or overcome a fear of actually approaching them? This is where one powerful attitude shift can work wonders for you.
Let’s call it “prospecting through building value“. This simply means developing an attitude that you are giving something of value to your prospect.
That something of value could be a solution to a problem they have (for example needing additional income to support a higher mortgage payment). It could also be making a desire they have come true (such as developing an income that let’s them stay home and be a full time mom or dad).
The bottom line is that your attitude should shift from “what’s in it for me” to “what’s in it for them”. When you genuinely internalize this, it shows and is picked up when you talk to people. It’s one of those subtle signals that either helps open their mind to what you are proposing (a focus on how your business can help them), or it shuts them down (a focus on what they can do to help YOU make money and get rich or whatever).
A simple shift from “you” to “your prospect” can boost your success in MLM dramatically!
