How To Have a Never Ending Warm Market

"Warm Market" is such an interesting phrase. It immediately conjures up visions of vomiting your opportunity all over your friends and family. But let's put that image aside for a moment and create a new perception and perspective.

A warm market is simply people who are not strangers. And there are only two types of people in the world, those you already know and those who you do not already know. Once you make connection with someone, whether in person, online, on the phone, by email -- they are no longer a stranger. Some might call them a "luke warm market" but they are certainly no longer strangers.

The key to having an endless stream of people to talk to, is to constantly and consistently be reaching out to meet and support others. If you are here on Better Networker, you are already doing the reaching out piece. If you go to live networking events you are already doing it as well. If you are generating leads online, you are also already reaching outside your immediate circle. Even if you are picking up the phone and cold calling, once you talk to someone new -- especially if you do it the right way -- then that person is no longer a stranger.

So what is the "right way" ? It is to serve. It is using phrases like , "How can I best serve you?" or  at a live event when meeting new people, "If I were to meet YOUR perfect customer, how would I know it?"  It's beginning  a conversation with a question and an interest in THEM. You've been doing this all your life. Ever since grade school -- "Hello, my name is Deborah, what is yours? Do you like to play hide and go seek?"

It's amazing how many people shy away from reaching out to meet others, once you put a label on it of "prospecting". So let's take that label away. Let's call it, expanding your circle of people you can help. Now it feels better, doesn't it. With that thought in mind, go back to your brainstorming board and make a plan. Where can you get in front of new people -- online, offline, through referrals, on the phone -- and how can you serve them.

In terms of your business, they may not become a prospect or a customer right away. They may never become that. But it flows and as you develop that relationship and help them, they will know people that can help you. It's a grand plan that adds up to a never ending warm market.
