How My Dog Jack Taught Me Network Marketing

Okay, so this is gonna sound a little crazy at first, but bear with me and keep reading. I promise this does relate to Network Marketing.

The other day I was out in my back yard just chilling out for a minute, sipping on a cup of freshly brewed french roast.
My mind was just wandering for a bit when one of our dogs, Jack, comes up to me, with his tail wagging so fast it's gonna fall off, his eyes looking at me in the happiest way, and his favorite red ball in his mouth. He was just the most joyous thing, full of excitement, cheer, all I could do was smile.

Then, he drops the ball right in front of me, looks up, tongue hanging out of his smiling mouth, as if to say, "Please throw this ball!". You see, Jack is a herding breed, and he could play fetch 24 hours a day non-stop. But right then, I didn't really feel like playing fetch with Jack. I was just relaxing..I was on my way to the airport soon, and had been running around all day, and I just wanted a small chunk of "down time".

So, I said to Jack "uh uh", and he knew what that meant..he picked up his ball and took it to the grass and laid down,,,for about 2 seconds. Then he was right back over to me with the same wagging tail, the same loving eyes, the same enthusiasm as before....drops the ball in front of me again...."UH UH" I say. On cue, he takes the ball over to the grass and lays down...for another whole 2 seconds.

This process repeats about 5 times exactly the same way each time. Except, by the 5th time, guess what I did? I picked up the ball and threw it! I started playing fetch with Jack. Why? Well, I am not really sure, exactly, but I think it was that Jack's determination was so compelling, his non-judgment of me each time he came up to me was incredible, and his utter enthusiasm for that ball was unmistakable! He made me smile and I had no choice but to pick up his red ball and play with him.

So I began to realize something. Our Network Marketing opportunity IS the RED BALL. But let's think about how we are bringing that ball to our prospects, to our family and friends. Are we like Jack, full of passion and enthusiasm, and non-judgment? Are we as enthusiastic the 200th time we invite someone to check it out as the first person we invited? Are we more like an attack dog than a smiling, happy go lucky, tail wagging in your face Jack?

I can tell you that if 100 people lined up in a row, and Jack went to each and every single person with his red ball, asking them to throw it, not everyone would do it. I mean, hey, not everyone likes dogs, or, maybe like me that day, some just wouldn't feel like playing right then. But it is a fact that Jack would not be dismayed one bit. He would go to each and every person as if it was the very first time he had EVER played fetch with that red ball. Fifty "NO";s wouldn't faze him in the least, and you can bet that at least several would actually pick up the ball and start playing fetch with him.

That day in my back yard forever changed my view of prospecting. Who knew a 3 year old dog named Jack would have such a big impact on my Network Marketing business?!!!

Happy Prospecting!!
