Network Marketing Success Using The Oldest - And Most Neglected - Trick In The Book
Jim Rohn said it best: “The fortune is in the follow-up”.
We spend millions every year on new courses, coaching and systems in the quest for network marketing success while the simplest thing we can is neglected or ignored completely.
During a long sales career I learned something that really surprised me: Most people don’t follow up. They spend a lot of time prospecting, a lot of money advertising and a lot of effort polishing their presentation, then they leave a ton of opportunity on the table for a lack of follow-up.
It happens on the retail side of the network marketing business and it happens on the recruiting side. It’s not for a lack of resources to do it right.
Their up line mentors, if they are successful, know the art of follow-up and each opportunity has plenty of charts, grafts and forms to list and track prospects and customers.
Tips For Successful Follow-Up
It’s not complicated to become a follow-up pro. In fact, it’s easy to do, which means it’s easy not to do too.
First, people’s expectations are pretty low. Customer service is a lost art and even a modest effort will raise you above the crowd. Woody Allen said that “80% of success is just showing up” and it’s true. Be consistent and you’ll build rewarding relationships.
Second, have a system. Doesn’t have to be complicated. Use an online calendar like the one in Google or use a planner from the dollar store, but get a device of some kind to mange your time. Your planner is your boss. If you are part of a marketing group within your network marketing opportunity then use what they use so that you have a duplicateable system for your recruits.
Third is getting over the “easy to do/not to do” hurdle. Sit down and take stock of what you are spending on marketing, both in real dollars and time away from your family. Consider what being successful in network marketing will mean to you and your family and then accept that unless you master follow-up you will be an also-ran forever (or until you quit).
Finally, just do it. Product follow up, recruiting follow up, follow up with your new customers and distributors. Your consistency will elevate you from another person that is trying to sell them something to someone who comes across as a professional committed to their success.
