The Warm Market Notification Principle

Read More: Prospecting

One of the greatest fears of many network marketers is  approaching their warm market about their business.

In many cases, they are taught to make a list of 100 names (friends and relatives) and proceed to call people on that list in hope of persuading them to schedule time to listen to an opportunity presentation.

Frankly, most networkers are not prepared for this – there are skills that need to be learned, and often a confidence that needs to be gained in order to effectively make calls like this. The feeling of rejection that might come with this approach is hard to swallow, especially for new network marketers.

An upline team member will often help with the first few calls, but unless the new networker gets quickly grounded in this approach, the result is typically unnecessary frustration and failure.

What is the answer? Use warm market notification! Nobody really likes to be on the receiving end of a sales pitch for a home business opportunity. However, many people who are looking for something (extra income, a serious opportunity) will respond favorably to notification.

  • no selling
  • no pressure
  • no putting trusted friends and family on the spot

Warm market notification is simply letting the people you know best in on what you’re doing, without trying to sell them anything. For every 100 people in your warm market, perhaps 5 may be looking for an opportunity to make more money at any given time. For the other 95, a handful more will probably be looking in the next year or two. Remember, circumstances change. An opportunity that is of no interest to someone today might be just what they need a year from now. You never know.

Here is an example of a message you can send to your warm market. You can do this in different ways. In our Send Out Cards business, we have the perfect vehicle – a nice card with our message that also serves as an example of the quality of our product. If you know people in your warm market who are definitely looking for opportunity, you can include our opportunity DVD in your card at no extra charge.

Aside from sending a card or letter, you can also use this message in email – just try to be reasonably certain the addresses you have are still valid.

You will want to modify this message to suit your style. Be careful, though, to keep the message direct and simple. No obvious selling. Just enough information to notify and perhaps create an interest in those who might be open to opportunity.

Dear Friend,

I hope everything is great on your end! I just wanted to send you a quick note to let you know about a new business I’ve recently started.

I’ve been looking for an opportunity to start my own business, and after careful consideration, I’ve chosen <name of your business>.

I decided to get on board with <name of your business> because <put your primary reason for starting the business>.

When you have time, I’d appreciate it if you’d take a look at my new business and let me know what you think.

<put the address of your online business presentation here>

I’ll let you know in a few weeks how the business is going for me.

Sincerely,

Your Name
Your Contact Information

Special Note: Even if your network marketing business focus will be working and prospecting online, you still need to let your best offline contacts know what you’re up to.

After sending a notification as above, you’ll want to pick up the phone and contact them to see what they think. This is far different (and much easier) than just going down a list of names trying to schedule appointments.
