Why the "Fishing" is Productive in December

Read More: Prospecting

OK so you've managed to survive Thanksgiving and you are looking to regain momentum in December. Not a problem right? Clear sailing to the first of the year.....er right?

If you can overlook the obvious generalizations in my following observations of my years in MLM, you might see that there is a trend to slow down or get distracted in December.

If you're a guy: "I'll start right back up as soon as we get past the various college football conference championships- afterall, it is just one weekend." Then "Hey, my favorite college BB team has just started conference play- I wonder how they are doing- It  is just one night...or two." Next thing you know- you're into the Bowl Games ( and everyone has a bowl!). These can eat up entire days. If you are into Pro football as well........well there goes another day of the week....culminating in the playoffs after the beginning of the year.

If your a woman: "Got to get to that "Black Friday Sale". It is just one day- what can it hurt? "Got to spend the next three weekends shopping for the family." Just a few hours here and there that turn into a few days. "Got to send Holiday Cards out to everyone I've ever known." "Got to get the house cleaned for company coming in." "Got to decorate and make cookies." All these things just clutter up the month.

But what if...

What if we consciously put the time in to consistently keep baiting the hooks to catch the prospects? What kind of prospects will we catch?

In my opinion, prospects that "bite" in December are prime prospects and here is why:

-They are not easily distracted by events.

-They know how to prioritize their time to get their "work" done while the "events" happen.

-They understand that getting the bait cut, the poles ready and the course charted now will put them ahead of the rest.

And I believe you'll pull in less "junk" fish - the fish that bite just because they are bored and looking for a hobby. Because, afterall, what are we looking for- prospects who are looking for a hobby? or prospects who are looking for a business?

Serious Fishing.....

The holidays can be a good time to recruit because anyone who "bites" is probably serious about starting a home business. You may also get a few "desperate" prospects, but they are easy to pick out. If I may suggest one good "bait" to use is the benefits of paying fewer taxes with a home business, and if a person were to start during December they would get some tax benefits for the 2009 tax year.

Great Point!

David,
That is a great point and one that is often forgotten. Many don't realize what tax benefits there are to having a home business.
