What They Don't Show You In The MLM, Network Marketing Presentation...
Yesterday, I was in a meeting and it was an important one due to many restrictions the MLM companies are putting in place and even now, the one I am with have applied some more.
Policies and rules like...
1. All training must be by the MLM company. You cannot train your own distributors except by their materials, which to me, is not really great and just plain petty talk. Not a method to qualify prospects.
2. No meetings until letter sent to company and agreed by company. So, it will take sometimes two weeks for reply.
3. No training set up by distributors because training will be given by company.
4. No going out if there's a network meeting or shows, until letter and company "agrees."
5. No promoting online and if so, it "must be" replica website or "website" that adheres to company policy. And believe me, that is all logo, product slam dunk in front, and no optin form.
There were others like disciplinary and all that.
A lot of things applied after department of trade industry went on a crack down in UK with the company.
Is It Your Business?
What I'm sharing with you, especially new people who are looking into MLM, is something that isn't said in presentations.
They'll talk about residual income, business ownership but they forget business owner is where you decide where to take your business in every aspect of your business.
- The first is, it's not your business. This is coming from a business owner, in the MLM business. I know what a business is. It's where I decide where it goes, the marketing, the lot. No one tells me how to run my other businesses, properties, magazines, books I create and I market them as I see fit.
You can't in most MLM companies today.
- If you have to go and ask big brother MLM company first before you as a CEO can start to get the job done, and wait weeks on end for a reply. It's not your company.
- If you have to ask if you can market online, it's not your company.
- If you cannot even train your own team, knowing that the training provided by the company isn't great for you and team growth - it's not your company.
The company and many I've seen, do agree changes need to be made but they don't say when and not sure how, at this moment in time.
They know the revolution online is moving fast but they are also scared of distributors promoting online, providing training and I don't blame them too.
I've seen many abuse what they have with pitching, spamming and other issues that has given MLM a bad name.
We have to also see both sides of the story, from the companies side, from those who apply the method of prospecting offline and those using online Attraction Marketing, SEO etc.
This is not an argument on how bad MLM is. MLM, Network Marketing is an amazing industry.
It has given us so much in exposing me to people of great calibre, leaders from diverse MLM companies. It has opened my mind and shaped my mindset and most of all, it opened opportunities to access further knowledge.
Without it, I would not have been exposed to Robert Kiyosaki. I'd maybe not known anyone of you here. I'd maybe not even know what "leads" are and prospecting and anything else we learn such as what is real cashflow, to Napolean Hill, Dale Carnergie.
So, it is an amazing industry, with people who I've grown to admire, whether they are leaders or beginners.
Many beginners have humbled me and have been so honest, in saying, "Adam, I don't like the way you're agressive in teaching and.."
And I was, because I come from the street. When we talk, our eyes piecce and we stare right in the eyes and talk with full confidence. Everyone is different and I needed to change a lot inside of me too.
So people in the industry were honest enough to show me my faults, from every angle, so I can grow, change, excel and do good for our family, our team and impact the community we are in.
But there is a truth, in saying, MLM isn't really your company. I
It's the owners, the founders and they will apply whatever policy they see fit, with or without your say, and there is really, nothing distributors can do about it.
I've been very fortunate guys because from day one, I've had the team and people would fill in a form, with .....their email address. First it was just paper and I'd add them to my email list and later I used the internet. Much later I learnt about Attraction Marketing.
So what can we learn from this?
- We are the business. These four words are very powerful. It doesn't just mean, take charge and be accountable and it's no one's fault but our own when we make mistakes.
It also means this - no one can take away this very powerful element in life - skill we invest in. Skill, training, this is you, you're the business. No matter what happens, no one can take the skill we learn, apply, craft and can apply to any business, any niche, we desire. No one.
This is where most don't get it. This is where the real power is. Not product. Not compensation plan. Not who we are under or working with as Diamonds or some pin level crown.
It's the skill, all that we invest in ourself, that attracts the ones who want the value we have inside of us and which creates success and wealth in our lives.
People live in fear because they fear the unknown. Skill rips this fear apart and into shreds. Take charge in this part. No one is going to do us for us but ourselves. No one. No matter what anyone says. This is our own responsibility to do. Not uplines. Not mentor. Not company but ourselves.
- Take charge and learn everything about the business.
Learn about the business. Study it and not see it as a hobby. Not to pile so much information to a prospect. The prospect really wants to know this with all their objections.
- Does it work?
- Is it simple?
- Can I trust you?
And this needs skill to be able to turn this around by first asking prospects questions, after questions.
Questions on where they are right in their life right now, what they want, what their needs are, do they work, what do they work as, what their income, what they wish to achieve e.g. their needs etc.
And turn their questions towards reminding them of the reasons they gave to you.
Let them close the sale.
Let them hear themselves speak what they want, need and have said to you. Let them convince themselves or send them to a message, or more knowledge to get educated.
Which brings me to the five points not to avoid..
Prepare your prospects and educate them. Provide solutions to them but also, we need to get to know them more and for them to know us more. Let none step in the business until they proved certain level of desire, integrity because end of the day - you don't want just anyone in the business.
Build relationship and let them warm up to you. Over deliver, bring down the walls they may have. Be yourself because you're good enough as you are and as we invest, we grow as greater human beings. Being able to bring more to the table and have your team on fire my friend.
You see, this is important for one reason.
The first is you called to show you're real behind all these gadgets or mystery. Second, it's a time to connect, ask questions, not pitch but ask questions, as though we are talking to real friends, families.
When the business owner calls and not pitches but calls with a smile on their face, and says, "Hi Joe!" and asks questions, it gets the prospects.
They don't hear a sales pitch. They hear leadership and someone cares and wants to know more about them, their needs, where they work, if they like their job or not, and if they do why, and if not, why, if they married, got kids etc etc.
Yes, it's so easy to say to someone, "This is the business you want to be in!"
But leaders don't do that. They first assess the needs of the prospects. Maybe your business industry won't be right for them. It's alright to say no and guide them. Be more than some sponsoring king. Be a leader.
It's also alright if you've now felt, the business is not for you and feel - I forgot my dream and what I reallt wanted to do. And what I really wanted to do was xyz.
Go and do it. Get it done. Your heart must be in the business you are in. Don't keep fighting against your true desire, your true dreams. If your mind is distracted and it's eating you up, you will not succeed.
I've got friends who came to me and said.
"Adam, I'm sorry but.."
"Why you sorry for?"
"I don't want to do MLM business anymore. I really want to do xyz because..."
And I reply, "Is there anyway I can help you to get there?"
You maybe a MLM distributor, a Network Marketing but you're also a mentor, a leader in the industry who lives in the state of abundance. Your first call is helping your fellow man with truth. Find out what they want, really need in their life and direct them to the best possible place.
It maybe, due to such a heart, life will bring plenty to you because you're living in a state of abundance.
Take your time in finding one and before you call, know exactly what it is you want. If you don't know, still call, and say you don't know what you want. It's ok, they been there too and will help to plan a way that best suits you.
Mentorship is crucial for your success. Find someone you can trust, get a long with. Top earners have coachs, mentors. From warriors, inventors, scientists, doctors, sports figures, gladiators, had role models to learn from. Real, successful people of that industry, sport, work, learnt from successful people.
It will save you a lot of time, pain and most of all, financial mistakes. I saved $55,000 due to one advise for properties from my coach. If I didn't ask, I'd have made that mistake. I have different mentors for different skills and industry.
Don't fall for the hype and crazed loyalty to company. Yes, respect the company and yes, believe in the company but...don't forget your dreams.
Don't forget how you wanted to invest and get a house, or spend more time with the family. Or write a check for charity or build a school.
Saying, "Financially Free, Yippee One Day," is very, very vague. Figure it out, crystal clear what it is you really want and make it the focal point of your mind and in the actions, steps towards....this dream.
Maybe it's to give back and impact communities. Maybe it's to buy your mum a house. Maybe you want grandma to live near to you.
Whatever your dream is - keep it in the forefront of your mind. Sit with yourself or if your with family, children, husband wife, partner - sit, talk about your dreams. See where you're at and work as one family.
Enjoy the journey and build what is going to belong to you, your family and the next generation to come.

Hey Adam:
This is an extremely critical issue for ALL Home Biz entrepreneurs - thanks for sharing this!
UP FRONT - Despite its critics (and I used to be one! :>) - I ldo love this industry. I have been a strong ambassador for the Network Marketing business model - both as a Financial Advisor, a Business Consultant, and a Home Biz Coach, for over 20-years now.
NETWORK MARKETING is perhaps the last bastion left, where people - without a famous bloodline - or a university education - or an abundance of marketing and technical skills - or with access to a large amounts of capital - CAN STILL achieve complete FINANCIAL and TIME Freedom in their lives. YES.
GIFTS - After so many years involved in this industry, I have grown to admire some of its most important strengths -- the gift of friendships made -- the opportunity for business education and personal growth --the thrill of seeing people achieve their objectives -- the enormous economic potential available [especially now, with the advent of accelerated technology and automation - using the 'high touch humanity' factor] -- the advent of Relationship Marketing (through "giving value' up front, we "attract" more targeted, high quality prospects) -- the chance to offer consultation to others -- the fun we can have together as a 'Team' -- to touch on only a few.
---------------------------------------------------------------
DARK SIDE - But -- there is a "dark" side to this industry as well -- and if prospects can learn HOW to do their homework intelligently - and HOW to conduct careful due dilligence - "before" ever signing on the dotted line with an MLM -- they can save themselves endless heartache and huge financial trauma.
POLICIES & PROCEDURES - You're touching on an area that should be THE most important part of EVALUATING 'any' Network Marketing business opportunity.
I have written about this for years - and, having been on the Board Of Directors of the DRA (Distributor Rights Association - http://www.TheDRA.org ) for 4 years, representing Canada - I can tell you that we at the DRA have seen untold 'horror stories' of Distributor's RIGHTS being sabotaged (unjust, wrongful terminations - lawsuits - cruel 'dictatorship and control' by both Corp and/or Uplines, etc, etc).
[P&Ps - RED FLAGS - Here's a list of some of the things to watch out for in MLM Policies & Procedures...

---------------------------------------------------------------
BUSINESS "OWNERSHIP"? - As I say above, the Network Marketing 'business model' is one of the finest creations ever developed by the human mind, in my opinion - regardless of whether you build it ONline - or OFFline - or both. It really has no equal for the average person to be able to gain total economic independence.
But simply "joining an MLM company will not give you your OWN business.
With Network Marketing, we're "creating" a business, yes - but we're not "owning" a business (the MLM company owns that business (THEY own both our customers and downlines).
As a Network Marketer, we're "commissioned Sales Reps" for the MLM company's products & services - not business OWNERS ((it is the "company" that has the power, control and ownership - dictated by their [P&Ps (Policies & Procedures)). By associating with an MLM, we become their Sales Reps. We gather customers for them - we recruit/sponsor other Sales Reps for them - THEY own these assets - not US.
Yes, we are "ICs" (Independent Contractors - but for "tax" purposes only - so that we're not treated as employees) - but we are not "IBOs" (Independent Business Owners).
Most in this industry do not realize that, partly because they're seduced by all the sweet promises in the glossy brochures - "Own Your OWN Business".
Not that "being a commissioned Sales Rep" is a bad thing, no - it's just not real business "ownership" - and that's the reality.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
YES, Network Marketing IS such an excellent model - "when" the right steps are taken - HOW can we get around this???
Y-O-U, Inc
There are 'many' different ways to truly OWN our own businesses. But in my opinion, the "only" way to get the best of "both" worlds here ((really own our OWN business + have all the great advantages of "MLM" -but 'without' its disadvantages)) - is through continual education (to gain the right skills) + personal development + intelligent POSITIONING + hard work.
And here's how we do the 'positioning' part (the basics, and in this sequence) - - -
1)-- we pick a good NICHE
2)-- we brand OURSELVES & attract others from that niche
3)-- we build our OWN List by offering VALUE to that niche
4)-- we develop RELATIONSHIPS with our List in that niche
5)-- we market BUSINESS SOLUTIONS to our List in that niche
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In other words, an "MLM" by itself, should never "be" your BUSINESS -- it should be [an important part of] your "overall" Business ENTERPRISE ( = YOU, Inc. )
Again - EXCELLENT topic - just sharing my own 03-cents worth (Canadian :>)
