The Hunter, the Hunted, the Difference
When it comes to building a successful home based business, there are two philosophies that have pretty much dominated the Industry over the past 60 years.
One entails being the hunter; the other, the hunted.
Let’s examine both:
First, being the hunter.
This strategy includes practices such as making your list of family and friends, cold calling leads and/or hosting sit-downs, one on ones, home parties or even hotel events.
In most of these cases, you would be pursuing those on your list to either sell them your product, business opportunity or both.
The benefit of this strategy is that you get to pick and choose who to approach. However, the downside includes lots of rejection, fewer sales and perhaps even ridicule.
These old worn out marketing methods have been taught for over 60 years in our Industry, and is partly responsible for the high number of people who make little or no money in their businesses.
The second approach, being the hunted, is more like being a fisherman.
Instead of jumping in the water, swimming after the fish and attempting to get them into his boat, the fisherman sits quietly on his chair, casts his bait out into the water and attracts fish right to him.
In this case, the bait is your marketing and the water is your market because that is exactly where the fish are.
Between the two strategies mentioned above, being the hunter is a more active approach while the fisherman, more passive.
Now this doesn’t mean that the fisherman doesn’t do as much to be successful, he just uses his time differently.
While the hunter must be constantly on the go, dressed in camouflage in search of new prey, the fisherman sits patiently in his boat, conserving his energy and thinking up new ways to bait the exact fish he wants to catch.
As a fisherman, the better your bait, (the perceived value of your marketing), the more fish (people) will be attracted to you.
And the because there is nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer, when people find you, instead of you finding them, this makes for a much more serious, committed buyer, who typically contacts you, orders your product and/or signs themselves up, many times, before you can even speak.

I am a fisherman!
GREAT ARTICLE, Aaron
Hi Aaron, How is Sophia, Great Article. "There is nothing stronger than a heart of a volunteer" You really know your LOA. Thanks for Value
Perfect Analogy
Nice way to put it. Thanks for sharing this easy to understand story. Working on being the fisherman takes focused time and energy for sure but so does "hunting".
At the end of the day it is worth the effort! Just can't wait until that day when you are reeling in big ones all day long!
Great Story
Thank you Aaron. For the newby, please explain how a hunter can turn into a fisherman.

Right On, Aaron!
You hit the nail on the head. Actually, both methods work. But many do not understand that the passive method can be so much more effective. Namely, people would rather buy than be sold.
Gotta run...need to stop at the bait store!

Like a Hawk
Aaron,
Thanks for your keen insight.
As a sportsman, I have spent many hours, both in the blind and on the stalk and I enjoyed your article. I have also had the opportunity to witness many Red Tail Hawks swoop down on their unsuspecting prey from far above only to devour their prey, what a site to see.
For me sometimes the most pleasure I get from fishing is just seeing which flies are getting hit and having the ability to choose appropriately for any given day.
Thanks again for your leadership. I'll be watching for more, like a hawk.

The transformation from Hunter to Fisherman
Thanks Aaron, excellent article. I have now gone through the transformation of being the hunter to learning the skills of the fisherman and I must say the hardest yet most rewarding part of it for me personally was the change in mindset and developing (as you put it so well) a "passive" attitude which has had such a positive effect not only on my business but my entire life.
You have inspired me to write an article on my own transformation and why it has been so worth while.
I have heard yours and Sopia's story and know that you where a very good and hard working hunter in the past, before you learnt the way of the fisherman and just like Diane, I would love to hear what helped you change your mind set, what helped you to become passive?
Thank you again
Donna :-)
The Hunter, the hunted
Thanks Aaron, great information
So plain even a . . .
Aaron,
This post is simple , straight forward & right on point.
Your summary & analogy of attraction marketing is extremely valuable in an arena of excessive hype.
I recently created an educational video to address this same subject entitled:The "5" Things You Don't Need To Build A Successful Network Marketing Business it's available at my: http://www.YouTube.com/WarrenLittleMLMCoach Channel

How to make your bait more attractive
Aaron, as always you are right on the money. And if I might be so bold as to add one other little important factor its that the good fisherman spends a little bit of energy with his personal branding. That is that he develops his own branding and becomes a leader in order to make his offering even more attractive. I am teaching my bricks and mortar clients this as well and its proving to be sales gold...
So once again Aaron, as always leading from the front...thank you.
