The Simple MLM Success Secret that Can Be Explained In 4 Short Words
When I’m talking to a candidate who’s thinking about joining my MLM business, my entire focus is to get them to say four simple words to themselves.
When these words are said, and really believed, they can create magical results.
Sometimes these four words are said out loud, but most of the time, they are just a thought running through your candidates mind.
But in the end, your success in this business is directly tied to your ability to get your candidate to say these four words to themselves.
So one of the most powerful skills that you can acquire, is the ability to influence, persuade, and convince people to say these four words to themselves.
Okay, what are these four words.
Here they are…
“I can do that.”
That’s it. That’s the four words.
“I can do that.”
The reason these four words are so important is because your success in MLM will hinge on your ability to help someone believe that they can be successful.
If someone truly believes that they can be successful, then they’re chances of actually becoming a success in MLM will skyrocket.
You see, being successful in anything comes down to one thing, whether you believe you can or not.
Henry Ford once said, “If you think you can do a thing or think you can't do a thing, you're right.”
Your belief in your ability to succeed is what will motivate you to take action and action is what produces results and results are what fuel your motivation and your motivation will in turn, produce more action.
But it all hinges on your own belief in yourself and your ability to be a success.
And as a successful network marketer, it’s your job to help people believe they can be successful.
So let me share some do’s and don’ts to help you instill a “I can do that” belief in others.
First of all, let’s talk about what you should do.
You should keep your message simple.
I try to explain that success in our business comes down to four simple steps.
1. Start a friendship with someone new every day.
2. Invite someone new to hear your company’s story, every day.
3. Follow up with someone that you’ve told the story to, every day.
4. And then start teaching other people to do the same thing.
I was taught by an extremely successful, million dollar a year MLM professional that the key to fast growth is to have a clear and simple message that can be communicated with ease.
He said to apply the “8 year old test.” If an 8 year old can't do it now and teach it to others, then you need a simpler message.
People are busy and for the most part their lives are complicated. A clear, simple and concise message lands well and it travels well.
So here’s some advice. Have your candidate take out a sheet of paper and ask them to write out the 3 or 4 simple steps in your company’s marketing system.
Then ask your candidate, “Do you think you can do these things every day? That's all we do!' And if they say to themselves, 'I can do that!' then you’re on your way to success.
The second piece of advice is to tell stories about other people in your company who were in difficult circumstances who took action and became successful.
I like to collect these kinds of stories and I tell them as often as I can.
When you tell a story, people will put themselves into your story and it will help them believe that if the people in your story can do it, so can they.
Okay now here’s what you do NOT want to do.
Don’t start teaching them some complex marketing system. Doing that get’s people scared and intimidated. It will destroy their belief that they can do it.
Don’t take them to a bunch of websites or show them a ton of instructional videos. Remember, anything that will cause any level of confusion will destroy a person’s belief that they can be successful at your MLM business.
And finally, don’t give them a big book to read or a thick instruction manual. That will only slow them down and it will get them to believe that they can’t be successful until they read this big book.
Remove any and all roadblocks to getting started. Make it dead simple to get started so that they believe that they can do it.
Remember, success starts with a belief that you can do what it takes to be successful.
You need to believe that you can do it and you need to help other people believe that they can do it.
One of the best ways to persuade others that they can be successful is for you to set the example and become successful yourself.
Imagine being able to say, “Hey, if I can do it, anyone can do it.” or “If I did it, you can do it too.”
That’s very powerful.
So when you’re talking to someone that interested in the business, always always remember that the main objective of your conversation is to get them to say to themselves, “I can do that.”

6 words
Hi David, have you tried these 6 words, "I have a solution for that." Most people don't care about what you are doing. Of course they want to be able to duplicate what you are doing. You can't go wrong with a "can do" attitude. True networking is based on helping people to find solutions to their problems.
Most of the time, people talk too much. I know I am guilty as charged. It wasn't until I started offering a solution to people's problems that I actually started achieving a certain level of success.
In order for anyone to be successful in any company they have to be more concerned about helping people to achieve their goals. Isn't that what this business is all about?
I like it!
That's a great point.
People will only pull their hard earned money out of their pockets to solve problems that they are suffering from.
That's Step 1.
In this case, it might be someone who needs to make some extra money to pay their bills.
Step 2, after you've got them sold on the business idea, you MUST get them to believe that they can do it.
How many people do you know who've signed up and done nothing. In many cases, it's simple because they don't thing they can do it.
So the two go together.
Thanks for your smart comments.

Simply the Ladder...
Hello David,
You said it..."it's our job to help people believe they can be successful."
We simply offer hope. A way out of the pain and a new direction for others to start living their dreams.
This is exactly what got me where I'm today... Not mentioning any names, but I came across this guys video, I said to myself, "If that guy can do this, I dang sure can." Well, we're buddies now and he was absolutely correct...
Thanks for this article. I'll be watching for more in 2010.
Let's Make this New Year our best yet!

The Simple MLM Success Secret that Can Be Explained In 4 Short W

Hollis
Another 4 words to remember
"It's all about them"
in those eight little words (your 4 and these 4) you have a model for success. no need to make it more complicated.
great post!
I Can Teach That!
"I can do that". Hmmm. . . "I can teach that"
Thank You David, looking forward to seeing you again in here Australia Feb 2010
Thanks for Reminding Me of That!
Great post. It reminds me of when I did my first one-on-one presentation. I thought I did a great flipchart presentation. However at the end of the presentation when I tried to get the person to sign on the dotted line, they said, "I can't do that". I was stunned. So you're right. They have to see themselves being successful. If they don't see, then they won't join you in your network marketing business.
One of the best articles over the holidays
The title of my comment says it all - a good dose of common sense and no nonsense about fast results. Excellent.
Keep it simple
Great article. The key is to keep it simple. Oftentimes I am presented with an opportunity with what seems to be a complicated marketing plan. I run the other way. So, the lesson here is Keep It Simple!
4 Short Words - Worked For Me
Absolutely Right On David. Here's how it worked for me personally just recently. This is kind of coming at it from a different angle.
I have been studying the Internetwork Marketing industry for some time now. Like many, I have been overwhelmed by information overload. It was taking some real effort to try to figure out where to start, what to focus on.
Then one day while looking at an opportunity, it hit me big time - "I Can Do THAT." Everything always seemed so complex. There were always pieces missing. But this opportunity seemed to have everything in place and spelled out clearly. I didn't think I could do all the other opportunities I had been looking at previously because I didn't think I had all the skills necessary. But this one showed me that I did and that I could do what they were proposing. It was one of those real "Ah Ha" moments.
"I Can Do THAT." And I AM.
So while it's critical that we all need to come to that mindset ourselves and be able to bring others to that realization for themselves, "THAT THING" that we come to believe we Can Do must indeed
be doable.
Does that make sense?
Respectfully,
Spence Gruendler

Keep It Super Simple
David,
You wrote a great article that can help anyone get ahead in life. My high school basketball coach was the first person who shared the same Henry Ford quote with me. It has stuck with me and I carry it in my mind and heart in all I do. It really forces you to make the decision that you can or can't do something, but it is up to you!
Wishing you success and prosperity in the New Year!
Live Great!

"I CAN DO THAT"

Keep it Simple Sweetie
Using the magic secquence of words and keepiing it simple will definitely have your clients believing they can do it.
Four Simple, But Great Words
A very refreshing article, Dave. Believing in yourself, and help others to believe in themselves. That sounds just like an Inspirational Leader. After having said, "I Can Do It"... the next step is to... "Just Do It" as Nike would say. All The Best!
