Tim Sales MLM Training – Three Reasons People Ask Is This Sales

No matter how eager a prospect may seem to want to create a better lifestyle, when you’re talking with them and that prospect raises an objection, you will know there is still a mental block or a barrier.  So this should help you to help them get past this thing that’s stopping them from getting what they want. 

One of the most common objections which you will encounter is “I don’t like sales“. This may well be as a result of a bad experience with a salesperson or failing to sell something to someone else in the past. Whether it is network marketing or any other profession or business situation, selling is all about effective communication.

Now, you won’t communicate effectively with your MLM prospect unless you fully understand what it is about sales they don’t like. There are three main reasons that your prospect will ask you is this sales.  And so by understanding these three possible reasons, you will be ready to ask the appropriate questions necessary to help your prospect overcome this particular block. For example

“Okay, I understand.  Well, let me ask you this.  When you picture sales, what do you see?  What’s been your experience around selling?  I understand that you don’t like sales.  I can take it from the way that you just said that.  So I can better understand how you view this, what’s the difference between sales and communication?” 

You can’t really help them get past this particular block that they’re using to stop themselves until you know which of the three main reasons is causing the block and preventing them from realizing their true network marketing potential. So, what are the three main reasons?

The first one I alluded to earlier and that is if the prospect is resistant to being rejected, and that normally comes about because somewhere in the past they themselves have been rejected.  And, of course, this may or may not have been in an MLM business situation. Moreover, I want you to notice something here. 

Most of the time it does not have to do with the prospect rejecting or pushing, it has to do with the sales person knowing they were pushing.  Each time I have ever looked back where I have pushed a little too hard, I have been on my own agenda instead of focusing on my network marketing prospect and their needs. Instead of helping them and determining if the network marketing business is right for them or not, all I have done is to encourage the prospect to withdraw and strengthen the barrier. This, in turn, leads to a rejection. Now, with the right mindset, with the acceptance that our MLM business is not for everyone, this reason can be overcome.

The second reason is that your prospect hesitates because they don’t feel confident in their ability to communicate. This reason is big. Selling is all about communicating. It does not matter if you are trying to get your kids to do their homework, raise money for your local charity, being interviewed for a job it is all about effective communication.

Depending on the outcome, a person can feel rejected and make the decision that they’re not good at sales.

The third reason is based on image.  Remember I mentioned earlier how people picture sales? What image do you have in your head when thinking of a salesperson?

Perhaps your prospect has the view that sales people are unprofessional, door-to-door or some other adjective which I will leave up to you. What about lawyers? How do you view lawyers? Let’s pose that a person is an attorney, and he would never degrade himself down to such a low level of being a sales person.  So it’s sort of a snobby type of an attitude, unaware completely that he has to sell to the judge, or he has to sell to the jury, and he has to sell to the client, just completely unaware that’s really what he does.  Effective attorneys, effective politicians, effective sales people, effective marriages, effective parenting it all comes down to communication.

So, what would you do if they have a negative picture about the profession of selling? You would explain to them that all organizations, no matter what they are, they have to actually promote.  Any one of these three reasons people ask is this sales you will have to talk to them about educating them how to communicate more effectively.
