Urgent Rude Awakening: You’re not gonna like this...

Read More: Sponsoring and Recruiting

Some people won’t like this…but it has to be said.

There really are only 4 reasons people fail in this industry.  And only 4.

And I know that 99% of people want to blame some outside source…

“It was because my upline never helped me.”

“I just ran out of people to talk to.”

“I just didn’t have time or money or....or...or...”

Yeah yeah yeah.

Ug.

Here’s the truth.

Only 2 out of the 4 reasons people fail are outside causes.

Wanna know what they are?

1)      The company fails

2)      The team fails

Okay.  So if you have one of those “reasons” I’ll cut you a tinsey bit of slack.

Cuz the thing is…those 2 reasons are very easily fixed.

Watch.

1)      If your company fails…go join another one.

2)      If you team fails…go join another one.

And this time…make sure you study the company AND the team before you join!

(In case you missed it, this article by Natasha Nassar will help you pick the right company and team for you.)

Now on to the part that might really tick some people off.

Most of the time, people don’t fail because of the company or the team...it’s because:

3)      You aren’t coachable

4)      You are inconsistent or you QUIT

I know, I know. You're coachable. Right?

Everyone thinks they're coachable.

Dig deep.

Are you really?

If I asked you to change the way you talk to people on the phone…would you do it?

If I told you that your blog needed an overhaul, would you listen?

Anyway.

On to consistency.

How consistent have you been in your business?

Have you dedicated specific hours to actual, money-making activities?

Because, whether you like it or not, there are only 2 ways to make money in our industry:

1)      Sponsor someone yourself

2)      Help someone in your downline sponsor someone

What consistent activities are you doing to make sure that those 2 activities occur on a regular basis? (And no, sharpening your pencils and re-alphabetizing your leads list does not count. =)

I learned this week from a $100,000 per month earner:

“Treat your business as if you’ve invested a million dollars in it.”

Are you?

If you did invest a million dollars in it, I can almost guarantee you’d be coachable and consistent.

Get you “butt” out of the way.

Wow!

You tell it like it is Sista!

The truth ain't always pretty, but facts are facts, and you did a very nice job of presenting them and gave your readers who may have found themselves falling into one of those categories a loving kick in the fanny.

Love it! Nice work : )

This article is awesome !

Every new network marketer should print this article out and post it on their wall in their home office(after they have done their due diligence)! Great article.

Chinna Liddell — Tue, 09/28/2010 - 11:47pm

Outstanding Article!!

People think that they are coachable and committed but they are not. They are always blaming something that does not have to do with them so that they can get attention. We need to avoid those people like the plague.

You are correct that you have to treat your business like a million dollar one or else you may as well face facts and exit the industry right the moment you finished reading this article.

It just needed to be said =)

Thanks Natasha, Chinna and Lawrence for your comments!
Natasha, sometimes we all need a little kick in the pants don't we? =)
I feel honored Chinna that you'd suggest for all network marketers to print it and post it on their wall. I think the industry might have a better reputation if everyone did!
Lawrence, I agree with you that if you aren't willing to treat your business like a real business, you might as well leave sooner than later.

Great stuff!

Great point about making sure you spend time doing things that will actually make you money. With all of the distractions available on the Internet it's easy for people to get "busy" doing stuff but not actually focusing their efforts on money-making activities. You don't just get paid for time spent being busy. Understanding this point alone could change the businesses of a lot of network marketers.

Rich Hazlett — Wed, 09/29/2010 - 11:12am

RE Great stuff!

What you pointed out is so true Rich! I think we've all been guilty of believing we are "working" when really we're just doing "busy work."
Well said!

Too many victims in the world.

Hi Stacia, I might go even as far as to say, there is only one reason. If you fail, it's because you're not doing it right. Even if your team or company fail, you know MLM works. You can see that all around you. So, you pick another company or team that do work well. So all that's left is you yourself. If you're not making it happen, it's because you're not doing things right.

Too many people play the roll of the victim then and blame it on anybody but themselves. Conclusion: They will keep failing.

Great article Stacia. Keep them coming.

RE Toom many victims in the world

Hi Rutger,
Thanks so much for your comment! You are so right! It really comes down to one thing--us. The company and team don't really matter...it is us that makes it work! =)

Reasons Reasons

Love your article! We can have all the reasons in the world, but it does boil down to being coachable and consistent as you said. People can easily fool them self into thinking they are working when in reality all they are doing is things like shuffle papers and answer email. That does NOT make you money! You also brought up some excellent questions that we all should ask ourself. Thanks Stacia

Disagree on First 2 Points

Stacia,
1) Your company matters a lot. Considering the expense of finding people to join our network is born UP FRONT by the distributor, it is VERY important that the company joined is a good one with a well thought out business and compensation plan.

I left one company I was with when I found out that they frequently changed the compensation plan without even the upline knowing. When I called customer support I was informed it was part of the umpteen page contract... "the compensation can be changed anytime without distributor knowledge or agreement." (All of my big upline left. I decided if the pros decided this was a bad deal, I would quit and avoid the rush. My lost time, money and credibility was partially my fault for not reading the contract and taking it seriously.)

2) Your coach and team really matter. The SYNERGY of a group gives you a HUGE business advantage. Since most people start out with an employees mentality, it is very important that they have a great coach who understands the business and leads in a responsible and effective manner.

However, there are some upline people who are MLM sharks. They raid downlines, lie to you, and prey on your dreams without conscience.

Other uplines are filled with the most wonderful, supportive, and caring people you would every want to meet. That is the case where I am now.

If your upline coach is teaching wrong information, it is up to discern that. You upline could be sincere.. but sincerely wrong. It is YOUR business and it is YOUR responsibility to learn sound business practices related to the company and industry you are in.

There are MANY recruiters but to few real coaches. It is imperative that you educate yourself as well as learn from your upline. Then you can separate fact from fiction.

It is important to be the coach the team needs and deserves. That takes learning, risk, honesty, humility, and perseverance.

Duplication involves getting people recruiting. For each person what methods fit them... and they feel comfortable with... will vary. Everyone needs to POOL their talents for the good of the team and offer variety. One size will not fit all.

Blessings,
Sharon Kuhn

RE Disagree on First 2 Points

Hi Sharon,
You know what, I agree with you!
I believe like you that finding a honorable company and an outstanding team are imperative.
What I was trying to say (and didn't get across) was that while the company and team are VERY IMPORTANT, success still falls on our individual shoulders...
And, like you said finding the right company and team is our individual duty. =)
Thank you for pointing that out and for sharing your mind!

"I see, I see" says the blind man to his deaf wife.
