What is Passive Marketing?
What is Passive Marketing?
Passive marketing can be very effective as long as you are prepared to sit back and wait for leads or sign-ups to your primary company. Passive marketing is important though, but it is not the most effective form of marketing. Passive marketing involves the following tasks:
- Emailing prospects about your opportunity and sending website links
- Social bookmarking on sites like Digg, Delicious, Reddit and Pinterest
- Prospecting through social media sites like Facebook and Twitter
- Blogging about your opportunity or your thoughts on network marketing
- Video marketing on Youtube, Vimeo or Daily Motion
- Classified Ad posting
Using all of these methods is fine and they are important in giving you some presence online and can add to your value and authority. But, I still say the best way of getting leads is to attend as many networking events as possible.
You can make things happen more quickly when you are stood in front of someone. A live conversation will tell you pretty quickly whether you want someone in your team or not and whether that person is likely to buy from you. Finding out someone’s issue or problem that needs solving takes time when passive marketing. Using Facebook or Twitter tactics will take time to develop trust as peoples’ guards are already up. They are expecting you to sell to them, and you know people don’t like to be sold, they like to buy.
Active Marketing
Face to face networking gives you the opportunity to hone your people skills and to get experience of helping people and giving value. My first networking event was a BNI event in Halifax, west Yorkshire and I was really, really nervous and must have looked it because there were people coming over to talk to me and introducing me to others just to get me to say something! We’ve all been there and looking back, it was funny but a necessary experience.
The last event I attended was last week and I came home with 30 business cards. I don’t go with any as I prefer to listen to people about THEIR businesses and see if they have any online issues or lead generation issues and be there to offer some free information or support to introduce myself as an authority and to give value. I follow up with a phone call the following morning as they have given me the green light to do so – they gave me their business card!!
So, is Passive marketing still important when looking at active marketing?
Of course it is. Passive marketing can get you and your opportunity out there globally while active marketing will probably get you out there locally and nationally depending on your travel budget! You just have to expect to wait to develop friendships and trust when prospecting on Facebook and Twitter.
