Stand Out…Show People The Unique Person You Truly Are

Success in network marketing requires the business owner to have his product or service in front of numerous people.  Ideally, these people should be seeking what you have to offer.  It just doesn’t make sense to expose your business to people who are not the least bit interested in what you are selling.  It would be like selling air conditioners to people living at the North Pole.  Granted, someone living at the North Pole may (for some strange reason) purchase your air conditioner but you certainly aren’t going to make a living in this market.

It now becomes apparent that one of the most important things any business must do is get their products in front of the right people… in other words, a targeted market.  Now, the internet has made the process of finding your target market relatively simple.  With just a little research, business owners can now target their market.   That’s pretty cool.  Prior to the internet, discovering and developing a target market was expensive and time consuming, but not any more.

But, here’s the flip side.  You certainly won’t be the only business person who has figured this out.  Competition in most markets is going to be intense.  So, if you decide to do business in any competitive market, it is absolutely necessary that you stand out from your competition.  In other words, what do you offer your targeted prospects that your competition does not?  Wow, this could be challenging!

It’s precisely the ability to overcome these challenges that drives our free market economy.  The cream always rises to the top.  So here is the million dollar question.

What makes me and my business unique?

If you can develop strategies that answer this question for your prospects, you are well on your way to success.  The question for you still remains… Where do I begin?

Personally, I started my quest to answer this question by simply sitting down with my wife and listing the people we do business with and honestly asking ourselves why we do business with them.  The results were surprising.  Before doing this family purchasing survey I would have bet the farm that the number one reason where we do business is PRICE.

In reality the overwhelming reason my wife and I continue to do business with people is their concern for us and their legitimate appreciation for our business.

Initially, I was pretty excited about our findings.  I thought that now all I had to do was develop a system that legitimately showed my concern and appreciation for my target market.

Then it hit me.  I know that what I think is cool is not necessarily what others think is cool.  It had to be tested.  I learned this early on in my quest to become an entrepreneur.  So the test began.

I isolated the one aspect of my business that I wasn’t very good at doing… showing my appreciation.  I had read books by Tom Hopkins (How To Master The Art of Selling) and Joe Girard (How To Sell Anything To Anybody).  Both of these guys developed their entire business by referrals only.  They did this by sending hand written cards of appreciation to basically everyone they met.  They both became experts at showing appreciation without want.  Subsequently, they became wealthy in the process.

OK, fine.  I could easily do this with email, but I soon realized that my competitors are doing the same thing.  This isn’t going to have me standing above the crowd.

Then, simply by chance, I was surfing the web and ran across a greeting card company that claimed I could send greeting cards from my computer.  Initially, I thought big deal. They’re probably e-cards.  But they claimed that they are actual greeting cards that they print, stamp, and mail.  I could use my own handwriting and have my own pictures on the card.  Now this got my attention, but what about the quality of the cards?

They offer people the opportunity to make a couple of cards for free.  So, I bit.  I sent one card to my wife at work.  The result was I got my favorite meal that night.  We were both impressed.

In summary, my point is this.  Spend some time discovering how you will stand out from your competition.  There are creative and meaningful strategies that will have your prospects excited about getting to know you and possibly doing business with you.  Learn to give without want and your business and personal life will flourish.  Have fun and convey to people the unique person you truly are.

I like a person who is down

I like a person who is down to earth, in touch with reality and not afraid to have questions about who are what they are/do.  Good luck but most of all be honest with yourself.
