Strong Self-Belief - The Key To All Success - True Or False
My Mentor multimillionaire Stuart Goldsmith, author of "The Midas Method" (and other works) maintains that believing in yourself is the key to all success - and I go along with that.
Stuart goes so far as to say "Believe That You Can Do Something And You Will Do It".
Sounds simple doesn't it? Isn't it just like the well-known saying of Napoleon Hill "what the mind of man can conceive and believe, man can achieve"?
Yes it is a very similar line, but things are a bit more complicated than that, as Stuart Goldsmith explains in "The Midas Method".
From first reading that phrase, "Believe That You Can Do Something And You Will Do It" in a self-help book to becoming a millionaire took Stuart 8 years. So it can't be that easy can it?
After all, armed with the same business opportunity (example an MLM program) some people make millions while other people struggle to sponsor anybody and ultimately drop out.
Why can there be such a huge difference in results between different people when the basic situation (i.e. the business opportunity) is exactly the same?
According to Stuart, the failure of people to achieve their dreams is lack of self belief.
Building a strong self-belief is not as simple as simply repeating affirmations every morning. That's why Stuart devotes 133 pages on small-print to the subject and why it took him 8 years to figure out the "Method". He explains that there are two kinds of self-belief:-
1) PSI (Positive Self Image) belief which is "the single most important factor in achieving success and MUST be obtained before you can succeed".
Now that is a pretty strong statement and worth thinking about. You see, some people think that it is the opportunity that is most important or the compensation plan, or the training they (or otherwise) get from their sponsor. But Stuart is adamant that those things - the 'vehicle for getting it (i.e. for getting what you want)' represents only 25% of the elements necessary for success.
PSI-Belief reflects how you FEEL about yourself deep down inside.
It is about your level of self-worth. PSI-Belief CANNOT be improved by rational argument, reading books, or discussion. The Midas Method does tell you how you CAN improve your PSI-Belief through designated exercises.
Stuart says that "You MUST have a Positive Self Image if you are to succeed - you must believe that YOU ARE WORTH all the good things in life, you must believe that YOU DESERVE IT. Without this belief you will fail."
Now, I believe that when it comes to sponsoring people into your home business that having a high level of PSI-Belief is CRITICAL. If you don't believe in yourself how on earth do you expect your prospects to believe in you? They won't and they won't join your program.
In my view this is one of the most important reasons people fail in MLM. But it gets worse than that. Because we haven't looked at the second type of self-belief yet and this is...
2) I-CAN belief which reflects how capable you think you are on a 'nuts and bolts' level.
It concerns how you THINK about your abilities and what you BELIEVE is possible or not possible for you. It is largely a learned response and is heavily determined by your upbringing and schooling.
As Henry Ford said "Whether you think you can do something, or you think you can't, in either case you are probably right".
So imagine trying to promote an MLM business if you have a low level of I-CAN belief. If you don't BELIEVE that you can go out and market yourself, do the necessary advertising, make videos to post on the social networking sites and etc. then you will surely fail.
Stuart devotes 19 pages to this subject in his book. My most favourite part is the quote: "Most People Are Working Under A False Ceiling Which Is Less Than Three Feet High!".
Stuart explains how inertia rules the subconscious and how the subconscious fights hard to stop you from changing! If you truly want to change your level of I-CAN self belief, then you have a real battle on your hands with your subconscious mind!
Just like PSI-Belief, I-CAN belief represents 25% of the elements of success. The other 50% is made up of knowing what you want (25%) and getting there (25%)
This is Stuart Goldsmith's Formula for Success
25% PSI-BELIEF
25% I-CAN BELIEF
25% KNOWING WHAT YOU WANT
25% GETTING THERE
You, see, having strong self-belief represents 50% of your chances for success. The opportunity that you are promoting only 25%.
And that's why most people fail. because they have a low level of self-belief, the people who they are trying to attract into their business sense this and shy away. No one wants to follow a failure!
On the other hand, your prospects WILL sense your strong sense of self-belief, and will join you. Everybody want to team up with a success!
In his book "The Midas Method" Stuart gives you a method to measure your levels of both kinds of self-belief and exercises to improve them.
