Success and Satisfaction

I’m sure since becoming involved in whatever business opportunity you affiliate yourself with you’ve heard the word success bandied about all day long.Yes, I said bandied. For those here who are not familiar with the term I will define it as “discussing in a casual or frivolous manner”.

All of us here want success. We want to be successful. We want to experience success and help others reach success too. Sounds great doesn’t it?

But it’s completely meaningless until you know what success is and the truth is only you can truly define it for yourself. Success can mean something different for each one of us.

Unfortunately, many of us fall into the trap of seeing success as society dictates it, and this warps our perception of real success. This prevents us from ever attaining success, as we are striving after something that does not yet belong to us. We are chasing someone else’s success and not our own.

It’s like hearing about your friend’s favourite vacation spot and deciding you’d like to go there too. You talk about going; you repeat your friend’s stories about the place and what they did there. You encourage other people to go there too. Yet, you have no idea where it is or how to get there. You never looked it up on a map. You never researched what you would do there if you did go.

Success is the same.

We can only start the journey when the destination is clear.

We must each define what success is for ourselves.

Imagine you are a parent (I’m sure some of you are – but for those who are not, just imagine). You, of course, want your child to be successful. But what does that mean?

Is having lots of money success? If that’s the case, then your child could be a drug dealer, have lots of money, and therefore be considered a success.

Is a good education success? I’m sure you realize there are many college graduates who live in their parents basement watching sci-fi TV show reruns and playing fantasy games that involve a lot of dice-rolling.

Is time freedom success? Homeless people have lots of time freedom.

Success may possibly involve any one of those things, but are not of themselves a guarantee of success.

Just having money is meaningless until you examine how you got the money and what you are doing with it. Same with knowledge and time, what are you doing with them? Does it bring you a sense of satisfaction? How is what you are doing with your money, knowledge, and time affecting others around you?

If you can look around you and examine your life and feel satisfied with the results of your work; if that satisfaction inspires you to carry on, and the results of your work inspire others to carry on and feel satisfied, then, my friend, then you have experienced true success.
