Creating a Successful Website Part Two

Lesson 2 Following on from my First lesson on 'How to Create a successful Website'

Using HTML Heading Tags

When writing content for your website, it is always important that you use the HTML H1 heading tag within the main title at the top of your webpage. In addition, use HTML H2 tags within your
sub-titles. This is also very important as part of SEO (search engine optimization), as some search engines place relevance on the text displayed with heading tags.

Set the default text for your H1 heading tag to very large, and set the heading tags in the font style and size you prefer.

Use META Tags within every Webpage

A helpful tip to consider when creating a successful website is to include META tags between the HEAD tags of your webpage. META tags help the search engines to know what keywords are relevant to a particular webpage. They are also used to tell the search engines what the webpage is all about. Many search engines will display this description within the search results.

Web Page Backgrounds and Text

Web pages come in all sorts of design and styles. But for simplistic and basic web sites it is always a good idea to display a webpage with a white background and black text, as this will make the text easy to read. Distracting backgrounds can make text hard to read so a good rule of thumb is to just keep it simple. This alone is a fabulous way to help create a successful website.

Graphics

If you want to incorporate animated graphics, use them sparingly. Flashing graphics can be VERY annoying and may prevent visitors from returning to view your website.

Navigational Links

Navigational links are a must on every page. They can be displayed at the top, bottom, left or right side of your webpage. Bear in mind that visitors should be able to get to any webpage within your website within a few clicks.

Webpage Layout

Be consistent with your web page design throughout your whole site. Always make sure you proof read and spell check your web pages AND CHECK that there are no broken images or links.
