Why I Love Apple

I came across a discussion on the Better Networker forums
where a lady was discussing viruses on Windows based PCs and
wondering who had the best software solution to curb the problems.
I chimed in with this solution…
Buy a Mac!
No seriously, buy a Mac.
I was on with Apple support not long ago and the tech was an ex-military
techie.
He was explaining to me some of the more sophisticated aspects of
the Apple OS native encryption and security that blew me away. That
one phone call opened my eyes to a side of Apple I really never
paid attention to and I’ve been on a Mac since the LC III.
So I was already a dedicated user.
But that one phone call single-handedly
sealed the deal forever. I WILL NEVER switch or TRUST a windows
machine ever again. And am now a true Mac evangelist.
I ran one of my companies on Windows for 5 years and it was just so
damn frustrating. All the patches, updates, fixes, random crashes,
virus and worm attacks, on and on and on. Not to mention LAME
support.
Macs absolutely cost more up front, there is no question there. But
I can say without a shadow of a doubt, that running our new
affiliate/cpa marketing, network marketing, seo & coaching services
businesses and the new models we have in place for automation and
so forth, that we would have only developed a third to maybe half
of what we have in the last 8 months running everything on an Apple
network and hardware as we would have on a Windows network. All for
one reason alone… “PRODUCTIVITY!”
I turn on my Mac and go to work. No long boot cycles. No hard drive
scans. No blue screens of death, no random crashes, no lengthy
resource heavy virus scans. No firewall errors to jam the network.
All of it… Gone!
And I am sorry, but when I call Apple, Everyone Speaks Fluent
English and Understands What I’m Saying. I dealt with Dell for 7
miserable years. Outsourcing absolutely has it’s place and there
are things that folks in other countries do from a productivity and
“get shit done” perspective that puts a lot of American workers to
shame, but when it comes to talking about complex concepts and
technical lingo to fix your computer or a network issue, wiping out
the language barrier is paramount.
Apple just delivers on every point across the board, hands down.
Plus ... I mean look at these things - they're sexy as hell!

And, if you need another reason to go Mac ...
From a marketing perspective you simply can't beat the sheer creative dominance
and raw power you get in a Mac. These baby's are a marketers dream come true.
ScreenFlow - one of the industry leading screencast/video editing packages on the market.
$99 compared to Camtasia's bloated $299 price tag.
Wanna know something freakin' hilarious?
Even tha Mac version of Camtasia costs less - it's only $99 too.
yeah I know .......... WOW! that's a low price!
iMovie - one of the most prolific video editing suites in history for home power users.
$FREE - comes stock on every Mac.
You'll have your video marketing lookin like pro in a matter of minutes!
iWork - $79 - a complete powerhouse office suite, but the key component here is Keynote.
This is the arch rival to powerpoint and is simply stunning.
But like I said, in and of itself, it stomps Microsoft's archaic price of $150 for a basic office suite.
Garage Band - think full audio studio capabilities.
Podcasts, voiceovers, you name it. Plus a full suite of musical instruments and input options
to score your masterpiece with orchestral prceision.
$FREE - oh yeah baby ... once again, comes stock with every Mac.
Need I continue?
But you have to decide for yourself….
Save a couple of hundred dollars up front in exchange for hours and
hours of wasted time on constant support issues. Or buy the Benz,
be done with it and enjoy the ride from day one.
That’s it.
Oh yeah…
Did I mention how much I really like Apple computers yet?
Live Long and Prosper.

Great Job, BRAVO!
When I was about to build my first website, I have to admit, my hubbie had to twist my arm to convince me I needed a MAC. My old computer was always crashing and he was tired of fixing it.
Now I absolutely love it! Everything you say about these babies are SO true- 100% zero hassle since day 1 - hours of wasted time now a thing of the past- what can I say, does my hubbie love me or what? The MAC says it all...........diamonds are no longer a girl's best friend. I say give me a MAC baby! LOL
My son says the same
GET a MAC. But I have so many programs running on Windows and it seems everything you download is for Windows but sorry not available for Mac yet, I'm kind of leery to make the switch.
And alas, my son may say that but he lives a 1000 miles away and isn't here to help !
Maybe I just need to find someone who's using a Mac and sit and play with it a bit and that "unknown" factor may just disappear.
Have to think about that and you made some excellent points here.
Have a great and awesome day,
Joyce
Love it, Richard
Six months ago I would have scoffed at your article. I've been a PC guy for years and years, and thought of the Apple as a toy. But after my last PC crashed, I bit the bullet and tried out the IMac. All I can say is WOW... for all of the reasons you've stated in your article.
Thanks for putting this out there.. it needed to be said, even if it pisses off some old school PC loyalists.
Right On, Richard!!!
Hi Richard!
I hear you loud and clear... I LOVE my MacBook Pro! You picked out my most favorite programs too - Screenflow, iMovie (with select Chroma Key screen templates), Keynote, Garage Band - and of course iPhoto!
I am not a devout tech-y but I am an avid online marketing coach and I teach people how to use videos and photos in connecting with their target audience and to entrepreneurs who are using attraction, relational or influence marketing online, I highly recommend that they try working on a Mac - there's so much flexibility and room for creativity!
Thanks for sharing Richard! Looking forward to more goodies from you!
Kind Regards,

Yes and No
I often find myself a bit frustrated with the hardware limitations of the Macs via apple. I can build a dual processor, 8 core machine with a FAR better hardware configuration than a "max'd out" Mac Pro and have almost enough money left over to play the world series of poker main event.
I don't have firewall or virus issues but yeah, many people do. Speaking of TRUST, I can't put my faith fully in Steve Jobs until he unchains the iphone/ipads and allows them to use flash and equips the ipad with a usb port. I might be willing to go for one or the other, but something's DEFINITELY gotta give!
Each to their own
Richard,
You make some really good points, but I have been using PCs for years without any of the problems you mentioned (except the $%#@ cost of Office).
I am a developer and keep my machine maintained. AVG Pro takes good care of most of the crap and a decent firewall the rest. I might mention that a computer is a mechanical device with a fan, power supply and the like that should be cleaned routinely.
I have nothing against Macs. I also use Intel based Linux boxes too. In my view it comes down to using the right tool for the right job.
JonMarc's comment about Flash is also correct. What an egotistical approach Job's has taken. My first comment to my bro-in-law who bought an Ipad was "how do you plug in a keyboard?" Not much use except as a kiosk without one.
Right on!
I've been a Windows user for so many years now and am totally sold on switching to Apple. Everything you said is right on!! I have faced the same frustrations using Windows on a Dell and IBM.
Balance is Everything ...
I own the NEW 27' imac G5 dual boot to Window 7 plus so much other PC hardware it would take days to list. I started my career long ago with Apple .. when Apple clones were legal to buy.
I love Apple but it's limiting still in business .. unless you're into graphic design or audio editing.
It takes serious hardware with LOTS of memory and CPU power that can be cooled and keep up with REAL business tasks to cut it these days.
Imac looks awesome at home on my desk and yes I use it .. but the smell of burning (something) ... and the 3rd degree burn I worry that my children can get when touching the monitor ... are problems.
Anything running that hot generally has LOTS of problems not to far down the road.
I turn the machine off just to let it cool ... PC's run 24 hours a day 7 days a week and have supportive hardware every where.
I nearly had to give away my first born child to find a UPS battery device that worked on my lastest Imac machine.
Oh, I won't go into the HOURS of trying to get Windows 7 to install .. it turns out that Windows & Apple did not have the correct drivers available for the new hardware ... sound familiar ?
As Apple get's into the game it falls just as much if not more then Microsoft. Apple has had little market share and with 100% control over software and hardware it's easy to limit errors.
PC software can be made and distributed by any vendor and with millions of hardware component combinations to manage Microsoft kicks butt in real world use.
I look forward for day when Apple is a REAL business solution ... from my prospective today it's many ... many ... many ... years away.
It will never happen if Apple continues to hold complete control over everything they produce and allow others to develop.
I own a blackberry too ... because I don't want the requirement to plug my phone into my computer to be able to make a basic phone call every few days or so.
I will say that the Imac looks sweet ... but looks are not everything ... wait a sec ... for most people they are .. forget everything I JUST said ... get a Imac and keep a fire extinguisher close at all times ... just in case the burning smell from the cute box starts to shut out flames !!
Just my two cents .. as a owner and user of both products ...
Have a good one !
Right on Richard!
For those who can see the bigger picture, Macs ROCK! After being on Macs, I opened my mind to get a PC and use it for "myspace im" ( can't on a Mac).
Found thay my PC laptop got virus and was way more trouble than it was worth! I sold it 3months later and will not ever own a PC again. Microsoft knows that that new Vista when it came out was garbage and had a lot of issues, but released it anyway. Integrity? And my PC was Vista, even though I was looking for one with XP which I knew was stable! I could not get one in my price range with both so no go. Only problems after problems.
So I realized if I had paid the higher ticket price for my PC I would have gotten the XP and Vista so it would have been less of frustration.
Bottom line, with what I really wanted, I could have bought the MAC! SO you get what you pay for! I'm sticking to my MAC G5 dual desktop and looking to get my PowerBook MacPro soon for my laptop. With Verizon FIOS I am as spoiled as you can get! Speed galorewith memory! What fun! Who else is having fun????
Thanks for your article here. I hope others see the big picture but then to each their own.
I'm a MAC
Made the switch in 2002 and have never looked back.
Marketing Software
While you can always run parallels to run windows programs on a MAC, there is some marketing software that only runs on a PC.
The gap is closing, however, and MAC does have some software, like Things that just has no alternative on the PC.
Keynote has much better templates than Powerpoint.
Don't forget the LEARNING curve you'll have for switching.
Time is money too!
I Love My Mac!
I'm all in Richard! I made the switch almost 2 years ago, and loved my iMac so much I ended up buying a Mac Book Pro as well. Every app I ever wondered would I be unable to replace from my PC has been replaced, and most all of it with open source software that is free!
And over all it was the stability and security that won me over though, no more bloated system so fat with patches it couldn't even crawl without crashing.
When I turned mine on the first time, it immediately found and mapped my PC so that I could easily copy files over, and imported email and bookmarks, what a breeze!
With everything you said, all the multimedia apps included, and the ease of use without having to chase down drivers everywhere all the time, it's a no brainer. A very worthwhile and painless investment!
Great post, thanks!
Vicki
I Love Windows 7
PC or Mac it's irrelevant - it's how you use it that counts. Let's face it for network marketing/direct sales that means writing, audio and video. I have a 64 bit Windows 7 Laptop half the price of a Mac running Firefox and it's fine.
Frankly I am surprised a blatant ad for Apple was picked as an example of a Best of The Day Article. What next Mercedes versus Ford?
Mac vs. PC
I love my Mac. Bought it 2 years ago (it was recommended by my PC Tech!) when I was looking for a new laptop. Even he has a Mac. The Apple support is amazing. No getting out your wallet every time you have a simple question, no crashes, no viruses - complete ease, safety and peace of mind. The One-On-One Classes are a real bargain for learning the new Mac. Ask about it in the store - just $100 per year for a personal one-on-one class whenever you want one. Just a tip - buy your Mac in an Apple store as opposed to a third party. You have perks that are not available otherwise - i.e., moving everything off of your PC onto your new Mac by their techs.
And then there is Apple Care!
Great post Richard! I agree 100%. My first computer was a Mac (IIsi), and I have never used anything other than a Mac (except when forced to, but never owned a PC)
Just thought I would add that Apple Care is a great investment. I purchased a computer that ran into problems that could not be fixed, and in the 35th month of my 36 month coverage Apple sent me a brand new computer as a replacement, overnight delivery and a better model since I was getting a newer model 3 years later. As chance would have it, that computer also developed a problem, it was limited strictly to the DVD drive, and I was not able to burn DVDs. After several failed attempts to fix the problem by my local authorized repair shop, AGAIN, Apple sent me a brand new computer, and once again I ended up with a better computer than the one I had before.
This is a classic example of how the manner in which a problem is handled makes all the difference. Despite two experiences that could have been negative, I am left more committed and faithful to Apple than ever, even though I thought that was not even possible, since I have always loved my Mac so much that people have accused me of working for commission with Apple!
Boel Stoddard
Wow Richard ..are you getting a peice of the action from Steve?
I'm completely fine with my PC.
My inlaws did get a virus on their Mac..so I'm not sure what you are saying.
Maybe I'm not a big enough marketer yet to need a Mac..not sure.
But I disagree with you.
MAC-nificent!
Richard,
Funny how timing works...I'm in the middle of a heated debate with the two spirits on my shoulders (MAC & PC). POOF PC - Be gone! MAC-nificient article Richard! Thanks for your candid comments...
See Richard, now you are being accused of same
Just when I said people have accused me of working on commission for Apple, along comes someone and asks you if you are getting a piece of the action from Steve.
You must admit Nicholas that it says something for a product when it inspires people to be such evangelists for the company. I don't see a whole lot of PC users running about constantly talking with joy, awe and inspiration about their PCs, do you? Mac people on the other hand tend to irritate people with their burning enthusiasm.
If I was not already in the Mac camp, I would take that into consideration when computer shopping.
I Still Use Windows ... Sometimes ;)
.
Well first of all, NO, I'm not on retainer. (although, if you're listening Steve, I would graciously accept a free laptop now and again)
And here's the thing ... I still use Windows "on my Mac of course" once in awhile.
Sure there are some programs that don't have a cross platform version "yet" and when I encounter one that I really really have to use, I load it on Windows XP Pro using SunMicrosystem's "Virtual Box" platform, $FREE by the way.
But there are very few apps I "have" to run. I don;t think I've booted Windows once in the last 90 days. Surprisingly too is XP screeeeeeams on my Mac - blazing fast! That absurdly long boot time? .. gone. Crashes? .. gine. XP is actually sexy on my Mac, loads in about 30 seconds flat and is probably what the OS "should" run like ... But it took a Mac to make it shine! =)
But on the other hand, as for "business" and the alleged inability to run one with a Mac, on that I definitely will strongly disagree. That "used" to be a very valid argument - but not anymore.
And, it comes down to "what kind of business" you are running I suppose.
QuickBooks? ... check.
MS Office? ... check.
Those are just a couple of popular business software titles that at one time were exclusive to Windows, but all have killer Mac versions available now. And from my experience as a "traditional" business owner I can't say there was much else that was stopping us before.
So aside from some "niche" software, I'd like to see what software is so critical to running a business in today's marketplace that can't be done with a Mac.
In fact ... now more than ever it's easier to run a business "completely" on a Mac network because there are so many web based applications available.
But it does come down to how you structure your business.
My personal emphasis in on "green" business models. So we actively look for mobile solutions that require very little "physical" resources to own and operate a business. But everything we have in place from a "traditional" sense runs flawlessly on the Macs (we have 7 + an Apple network) which by the way makes Windows sharing look like a UFC match.
As for the "smoking Mac" ... well it sounds like you need to call Apple and get a new one.
If it's "brand new" like you say then I know from personal experience they won;t bat a lash at replacing it. If it's "almost new" then you should have Apple Care, then the same will apply. In either case all you have to do is pick up the phone.
I too have the new iMac, there's nothing wrong with it and my kids can touch it just fine.
(that was funny by the way - over exaggerated, but funny)
Anway ...
There will always be 2 sides.
Mac is just better. =)
.
.
I've never owned a PC so I
I've never owned a PC so I can't compare the two but I do hear everyone's PC horror stories and am glad I don't have those problems.
I've been on the fence for
I've been on the fence for years trying to decide if I should lay out the bucks for a Mac. I know people who swear by them, like their the greatest thing since sliced bread.
You make some valid convincing points here Richard the Screenflow package alone is tempting enough for me, think I'll take another look.
Mac for me, too
Great post, Richard. A computer is a tool that's supposed to make you more productive. I fire up my iMac and am working in seconds, not 10 minutes later when my PC finally finishes booting.
It's false economy to buy a $700 PC that costs you thousands in frustration and support costs. Of course when I was doing support for a living, I loved it when people bought Microsoft!
Be happy. Get a Mac.
Stay away of Mac
I was told that I will run into lots of troubles finding programs and software...and that I would need special trainings to handle the machine.
But now with your explanation and evangelist passion I will turn into the Apple's Mac machine.
Many thanks...and be well,
Roger Aburto
P.S.By the way Richard my deepest congratulations for your new Instructor rank...and your new look too.
My close shave with Apple was to nearly buy an iFlop (iPad)
I just went to buy an iFlop and was sorely disappointed. Because Apple has a barrier to Adobe Flash (on iphones and ipads) you can only see a small percentage of websites properly on their iPad / iFlop.
As all my income streams are internet based I want FULL web compatibility.
With so many great websites being blocked out by Apple's narrow mindedness to Flash, Jobs seems to be shooting his apples in the core.
It seems to me that the iPad (iFlop) is not much more than an expensive digital image viewer and mp3 player. Sad, so I guess I will have to stick with good old PCs until Jobs wakes up.
On iFlops release, Steve Jobs proudly proclaimed “It’s the best web experience you’ve ever had".
Really? Not when I tried it out Steve Baby!
I wonder how many legal eagles see the opportunity to sue Apple for their phony TV ads? “iPad: all the worlds websites in your hands” Yea right - EXCEPT all the worlds websites using FLASH!
Never had any problems with my PC
I'm sure Apple computers are fine but I am supremely comfortable with my PC. I don't get all of the PC hate though. If you like Apple get an Apple if you like PC get a PC. Thats all their is to it really.
But I must say this was a really nice ad for Apple though. Is there a Mac products affiliate program I am missing out on?
Have Both!
I think that Windows 7 has solved a lot of the old Windows problems and is reasonably cheap to get a good machine for business applications. But, for media and music a Mac is the way to go. I would get both and use them for different tasks.
Macs r sexy
Richard! Yes indeed macs are super sexy and the support ROCKS! In fact, just yesterday morning when I went to use my dandy MacBook Pro, I noticed my power cord was not charging my laptop. I called support.
My tech/support agent was a delight. My little MacBook Pro is two years old and is supported by AppleCare. My power cord was replaced with no questions asked. Now, this was yesterday AND the cord arrived today! During the call, I also mentioned that my MacBook has slowed down a bit and seems tired. Well, with a few diagnostics its rock n' and rolling back to top speed. I love it.
The only and only thing I kinda miss it Outlook..Mac mail is just okay. I know I could use Entourage but am avoiding it.
"myspace im" ( can't on a Mac)
@Mary Guariglia with Adium for MAC you can use it for tons of IMs including My Space:) Plus, it saves all your chats and tons more! Digsby will have a MAC version soon too!
Depends On How You Use It.
I have used a PC for many years now and do not have all the problems some reported here. If you use it right, protect it, maintain it, it will serve you just fine untill you are ready for an upgrade.
It's people who don't use spyware, virus protection, or do not keep them current, that seem to have all the problems.
Dell was once a top producer of PCs, now HP is moving in on them and producing a great machine. However, the OS a person uses should have little to do in how each machine runs for that person.
Software is always changing and improving and Windows 7 is well worth having. Fast boots and so far, on my HP Laptop, I never had to do a re-boot, and I also have a lot of software to pick from for whatever job I want to do.
My PC runs 27/7 and is always ready when I need it to do the job at running my different businesses. So I guess it is a person's personal choise.
If your having so many problems on your PC, switch to a Mac and give it a try. However, a good question to ask is why do most people own PCs if Macs are so much better?
Could it be something like the Betamax and the VCR competition that happened years ago? There were a lot of movies for rent to VCR owners, and very little for Betamax owners. Over time, Betamax was gone. Just a thought.
One major issue with the MAC
Here over the pond in the UK the MACs still use the american keyboard layout, so to change we not only have to learn a different OS but a keyboard layout as well.
Also the MAC prices are more than double those of a similar PC over here.
