The First Pillar Of Prospecting Isn't About Prospecting - Part 1

Before we cover the, "Cough...ahem, when you succeed then I'll join you," we need to start with the first pillar of prospecting. You may think it's about the prospects but you'd be surprised that is closer to home.

What Do I Mean By Closer To Home
What is your vision about your company and how you want to run it? I am saying this because this is the first thing many who join the MLM and Network Marketing forget. It is the reason why I am writing this as the first thing of prospecting.

We have all been there, eager, want to build our business, want to make it happen. We step out in the world thinking everyone and anyone, will say, "Yes! My God, Yes! I want to be in your business!"

And this gets you so excited. You go out after all the pumped up talks in conferences, CDs, upline talk and suddenly, you find out something else.

What do you find? You find words like this:

"Cough...ahem, when you succeed then I'll join you."

And...

"My mate, who has a dog and that dog which had a puppy, which is owned by another person, and this other person got a mate, and the mate says that his other mate, knows someone, who did the business before and it didn't work."

And you're like, "erm, say that again???"

You'll also hear, "my wife won't let me." And, "Oh, I am ill today and.." Or..."It's a pyramid."

Yes, even, "I'll wait for you to make it happen dude! And then, by the power of He-Man.. I will join you and be the biggest one in your business and.."

Oh, and they do all that hand movement we see in He-Man and hand up in air, as though their holding some sword. Chest puffed out.

By the way, if this does happen, run. Run as fast as you can. Run like some hounds are chasing you.

Now you might be having these moments through the week and months but when you meet your upline, the team, and they say, "so hows it going eh?"

You reply, "AMAZING! Man, I feel so good!"

While you're inside is screaming, "My God! I have not got one person to join the business. Not one to buy products. Not one to even smile and say, yeah, I am in baby! OMG! What is WRONG WITH..........ME!!!!"

How I remember those days. Don't get me wrong, I have some of these moments where I hear no but guess what? It's me saying no to the one I am interviewing, and politely. I'm taking my business seriously and I don't go for anyone. My wife would say:

"Adam, what about this person, they gave good answers and..."
"Not good enough love."
"Ok, this person was sharp and.."
"What? Because he wore some suit. I met a lot of thick people in my time, many wore suits. Why they smart? Cause of their second hand rolex watch?"
"Ok Adam, how about so, so, they said.."
"No, not good for our team. Not what we're looking for love."

And now some will say, "Are you nuts Adam!"
And I reply, "Take a good look at my team if you meet me. Their HOT! For a very good reason. Yes, I am nuts about getting the right people instead of NUMBERS! That come in and do jack! I am doing it for real,. serious and so should you. Time to be professional.

"Oooh, you think your some hot shot."

Guess what, "I AM!"

Now you go "eh?"

If you don't think your a hot shot, your self image is top, NO ONE will!

Let Me Clarify One Thing About Prospecting
It starts with YOU! Yes you because you see, before you even think about prospecting, I want you to think about how you see yourself, and your business. Here's some questions for you to consider, and please, pay attention here:

  • Why did you join your business? Whats your reason why?
  • What is the vision of your own company?
  • What are you goals for your business, weekly, monthly, year?
  • What challenges have you written down and what solutions do you have?
  • Have you got on all the training?
  • Have you prepared all training access for the right people who step up?
  • Is it duplicatable? Ok great.
  • Is it YOUR business or your uplines?

Notice something from all of the above. Have I mentioned Prospects? Well, have I? No. Prospects are not the problem. Let's get this straight, right now, today. It's time to face the facts here.

  • When the above is sorted, then you have a burning desire. That's the first. That means, if there is something wrong, you are not going to blame the owl that hoots every night. You are going to work on the solution and not...quit!
  • You are also going to learn everything about your business.
  • You are going to make sure, where all training is because you're going on them.
  • You're going to take charge and make sure everything is prepared for whoever steps up later and joins you in the business. That means, you're going to have the answers when someone needs help in your team or for someone new. You have..VALUE!
  • It's YOUR business not your uplines. That means, you got guts to stand up and speak up, get involved in decision making and you're not some push over for any guy or woman who thinks they are an upline who can shake your business. You're the shaker and mover of your business!
  • You took charge to learn about the system, how it works, to right down, to the gritty part of "what happens when orders are taken." Yes, even the boring part of, "do I need to fill in a reciept."

What The Above Does For You
And when you know your business for real, then you know you got back up. You also know you got an awesome system. You also know you are plugged in with awesome leaders, awesome team. You know what you need to do!

Instead of running after uplines to do it for us.  It creates a shift in your Mindset. Confidence baby! Confidence. The real deal, radiating:

"Hey, I know what my business is and what to do, how to do it, when to do it!"

So will your team feel it and man, does that feel so damn good!

The help, everything is there because....you have experienced it and took great care to see the big picture. Your belief in the business is not based on Hoo Haa talk but real, experience. It is radiating, burning, glowing and people feel it, whether they are in the business or not!

Is that the case for you my friend? No worries. I've been there, so have many leaders and all had to change. The courage is in admiting what needs to be changed and not look at it, that the problem is the prospects or anything else but to now...get it sorted.

What It Does When Calling Or Prospecting
You're not going to try and prove one thing to anyone! Nothing. You know what you got, period. But here is the magic. You KNOW what you are looking for, to be part of your team, to be part of your..vision! To be part of all you do regarding the business. The chasing is now over!

The Chasing And Pestering Is Over
You are asking the questions. You are listening to not get a yes but seeing if that person is...right for you! Now, isn't that a relief, eh? Isn't that awesome my friend. This is AWESOME! It is One of the times in my life where I feel so good because I am the CEO and I am asking the questions and feel like I am being interviewed.

The Heart Of The First Pillar
Your mindset is different to "I must talk to everyone!" I don't talk to anyone. I don't chase everyone to be part of my business. I sure don't send a link either to anyone to see my business. I make sure I qualify this person. Since I know what it takes and what I am looking for, this is going to be a breeze. 

No, I didn't say, "it's going to be easy." I said, a breeze because now I know what I am looking for and I am confident, and I won't give a hoot, if someone says:

"Well, erm, cough..erm.."

Because.."Well, erm, cough...erm.." is not what I am looking for and so, they don't qualify to be in my business. 

But Adam, have compassion." I am having compassion. If this person doesn't have the burning desire, this business will eat them up, chew and spit them out and they will fall flat on their butt! That for me is having compassion.

I am not looking to babysit people. I am looking for people who have a desire, want to have their own business and so do you!

Look, I care about people. I am here to qualify people and if I feel they do not qualify, then they don't. That way I can stop a lot of hassle, on both sides of the fence. If I feel this person hasn't got the desire, I am not going to come in and run a business. Are you kidding me? I am saving time for both of us. This is compassion not letting anyone in with false hopes.

It's time to be professionals here people. Not EVERYONE is going to be in your business. Not EVERYONE is going to get off their butt after coming from work to build a business for their financial future. So, you are not looking for everyone but those who you think qualify to be part of you, your business, your team.

The Begining Of All Things
Now, my friend, since you know the above, then you will know, it must start by the way you think. The way you think, your belief of your business, your vision, will determine what you radiate out there.

Now, you can try to put your bill frustrations on this business but it will take it, chew it and spit it out! What I am saying here is, "people will feel your frustrations."

People will feel your needy for them.

People will feel you want them.

And people look for leadership, the best team and the best system to give them the training they need to move forward. And if they see someone who is need, no leadership, loves to answers people and "yes, yes," guess what? Forget it.

So, you must understand to see business as a long term. You have made that decision and it's not some chump who thinks:

"I need to find a business that does the job and makes me a thousand pound..NOW! Or in a few weeks!"

Hey, go and get a job! At least you work and get money...now-ish.

And what if it doesn't? You're going to quit? Give me a break mate. This is a business, it's long term and you need to have a strong desire to take the knocks. You need training. You need to do what you do with KNOWING not second guess, pot luck. This takes time and time for you to grow from the inside. It's an education business my friend and the more you educate yourself, apply, the more you will learn and grow, and succeed.

Or it's just a hobby. This hobby can be very expensive.

The First Pillar
Has nothing to do with the prospect or the baggage of the world, or recession, or this and that. It is to do with your own desire, your own mindset, your own changing, your own time to educate yourself, your own investment in yourself.

You my friend, must learn your business...inside out. It's all about you and your leadership.  You must unlearn, and learn about you. Look in the mirror, see what needs to be changed and begin to invest in yourself and grow.

Hi Adam,

You are quite right. It is not different from other types of businesses. YOU have to be the one with VULUE. And you have to prepare for the way to go. Building a company you will also have to search the right persons. In MLM business you NEED good ones more then whereever. Your people must be of the same sort of yourself and add VALUE to their people.

Something I Learn Adam

Your article sound like some of the frustration I have went through. I been there and done that.

I have foud out recently that people don't like for you to sell them anything. When your friends and people you have spoken to before, they see you and run the other way. You didn't mention anything about Mike Dillard Magnetic Sponsoring Online Book. Do You have that book, if not it will start you off in another direction. It will explain a lot about MLM.

Keep up the good writing , remember I feel your pain.

I'll need to make some reply to you in regards to pain or frustration.

I don't have any. 

I did not write the article with pain. Business is not a pain to me. Rather it is quiet exciting, challenging and I like it very much. I like it because it's a people's business and helps me to grow faster. I can give more but also...it's a level playing field for me. So it's great for me who isn't into all the degree stuff but want to roll sleeve and get to work.

The article was also written without frustrations.

Rather it was written with freedom and to share past experiences, because there are many new people joining MLM and Networking. It's my style of writing

I started to apply the law of attraction about 6 months after I started my business. I started four years ago. Yes, I have Mikes books, and brillaint books.

You're right though, people see you and not the product or company. Thanks for your comment but I don't remember much pain just a wealth of experience. Valuable ones.
