The Homebased Business Success Formula: 7 Essentials for Setting and Achieving Your Goals for Generational Wealth

Read More: Mindset  |  Personal Development

My journey to Internet marketing began with my exposure to the homebased business industry. After you jump into the homebased business industry, it's not long before you realize the necessity for personal development. Included in the personal development mix is the ability to set and achieve goals. If you have been in the homebased business industry for a while, you've probably heard the advise, "Set and work toward realistic goals." But, just what makes a goal "realistic?"

I recently clicked on an ad for a video series on setting goals with Zig Ziglar from Nightingale-Conant.
As a student of personal development and homebased business material, I’m a huge Ziglar fan. I can't get enough of his down-to-earth rhetorical style or his musings about "the Redhead." I sampled 3 terrific clips of Zig waxing colloquial about the mechanics of setting and attaining goals. Pure gold. Here are some valuable nuggets for you to consider...

The 7 Essentials for Setting and Achieving Your Goals by Zig Ziglar
#1 Write it down
#2 Choose a date to complete it
#3 List the obstacles you must overcome
#4 Identify the people/organizations with whom you need to work
#5 Identify the skills you need to have
#6 Formulate a detailed plan of action
#7 Identify the personal benefits for reaching your goal

Do you notice anything missing? There is no "#8 Make sure your goal is realistic." Why? Because the above list is a formula for reaching any goal your mind can conceive. A formula? Yep. Just like a mathematical formula will help you solve for 3 X 3 or 5125 X 2165. You are still using the same basic formula to solve each one. Your goal could be to lose 100 pounds or start a successful homebased business. It almost doesn't matter what you set out to accomplish if you know the formula for success.

So what are realistic goals? That depends on where you want to go, by when, and by what means? For example, if you want to get to London from Southern California within 18 hours, you could realistically get there by airplane. However, getting there in 18 hours by bus and barge is definitely unrealistic.

Is the acquisition of generational wealth within just a few years a realistic goal? Ask Brig Hart. When he founded his company in January of 2005, he created the opportunity for himself to break industry income records, exceeding $220,000 a day. Today, less than 4 years after starting to market the health benefits of açai juice, he is living comfortably earning over $20,000,000 (yes, I do mean twenty million dollars) a year.

What if you had the opportunity to put yourself at this level of wealth? Being at the right place, at the right time, with the right people can literally make you millions... that is, if you make it your goal to find the right place, know the right time and meet the right people.

Are your goals realistic? Apply Ziglar's formula to some short-term goals and see what happens.

Thanks Collette!

I love Zigs stuff too, he was my first personal growth Mentor, way back when. In fact he even visited our small town and did a seminar at the local library! I'm talking 30 years ago!

On On!

Good Points

You have given some great information for, people starting out especially, about goal setting. So many people think that networking is easy, and I suppose for some it is, but haveing a plan to follow will help many who lack the discipline and persistance to follow through with achieving their goals.

Good Job!
