What is fear?

Fear  is defined as a reason for dread or apprehension.
After 9/11, many people here in NY were afraid to take the trains into Manhattan, take airplanes to major cities and to stand beside anyone of arab or Iraqi decent.   Was their fear real and is it stopping them from getting to where they need to be?
Almost 2 years ago, I was struck down in the fast lane by a bleeding lesion on my brainstem.  After spending months relearning to walk on my own, I was afraid to go anywhere without my stick or to be seen in public because I didn’t see myself as the independent rock that I had always been. Is that fear real?
After falling off our bikes as children, we were initially afraid of trying again for fear we would fall. Is that fear real and did it keep us from ever riding a bike again?

If you are honest with yourself you could list a number of areas in life that you sidestep due to unchallenged fear. Think of the conversations you don’t have, the people you don’t let yourself meet, the business or life decisions you make designed to avoid fear. The thing that most people are afraid of is the unknown not knowing the outcome of an action, a relationship, or a decision. Most people gravitate to what they already know and then complain about how boring life is or how nothing ever really changes.

How does fear manifest in your business?

What I have noticed since starting my first MLM business is that First Calls seem to be pretty easy for just about everyone after about the first week. But that appointment call brings out the fear in everyone. We all come up with dozen of excuses why we can’t take that half an hour and make those appointment calls. We start with the guilt first thing in the morning……our excuse “oh, it’s too early, they’re probably at work. Midday comes around and we have a thousand and one things that needs to be done around the house so we put them off until the evening. Evening comes and we decide it’s too late or we might be interrupting someone’s dinner. The most important call in the business, and we let fear of rejection, fear of being met with negativity, or even the fear that they may actually be interested manifest itself into the weight of that phone. That phone becomes 300 pounds in no time at all.
So what if they’re not interested….there’s plenty more fish in the sea
So what if they think it is a scam…….we know it’s not and if they can’t see the opportunity that’s being offered to them then its their loss.
So what if they ask questions………we have all the answers right in front of us.

If it takes you 3 -4 days to get up the courage to make that call, the odds of that person still remembering the presentation have gone way down and you’ve lost the golden ring.

5 Steps to Unleashing Your Power over Fear by Myles Miller

1.     Become ignorant to fear:

Fear appears in many different forms. It can come your negative self (i.e. “I can’t do this,” “I’m not good at this,” etc.). It can come from negative media forecasts (i.e. bad predictions of the economy, bad weather reports, reports of murder, gossip, etc.). You must mute the voice of fear by limiting (or completely eliminating) your contact with fear-causing entities (i.e. news reports, newspapers, failure-conscious people, etc.).

2. Don’t let fear have time to think:

Thoughts are powerful. A single thought can be responsible for life or death in this world. And anything that you think about long enough will find its way into the physical realm. Therefore, if you were to spend time thinking about the things that you want out of life (I mean conscious concentrate), you begin to see them. Conversely, the same is true for the things that you don’t want in life. Commit your time to faith and believing, not fear and doubt.

3. Always speak faith and belief:

Fear lives in doubt and disbelief. To make your own world free of debilitating fear, always think, act, and speak positively in faith and belief. Be bold and say things as you want them to be in your life. If it is a new house you want, say it! If it is a new car you want, say it! If it is a successful family life you want, say it! If it is success in your business you want, say it!

 4.       Create and maintain a positive outlook of yourself:

A favorite motto of mine goes like this, “If I know who and what I am, noone can tell me who and what I am not!” No matter what the world has decided to think about me, I have decided to think great thoughts about myself. Therefore, I am free of world’s often limiting belief system. Don’t worry about things like weather reports, poor economic forecasts, what celebrity just went to jail, and who does not believe in your dreams? Decide who and what you are right now and do not be moved by their negativity.

LASTLY, Continue to execute the thing(s) that you fear until your fear disappears:

Success is active. Action dispels fear. If you sit still, fear has the time to paralyze your abilities and efforts, ultimately, causing you to fail. Continue to move toward your goals with great diligence and great courage!
