The Principles of a Rock Solid Attitude

“Attitude determines your altitude” is a quote often to be seen on the wall in executive’s boardrooms. The word attitude is often discussed and given much attention in the media. Great leaders and successful individual’s shares similar viewpoint on this subject, and recognize that a rock solid attitude is a critical ingredient to reap the fruits of true accomplishment.

The word attitude has such an immense impact on our situation. As a result I will in this article break the topic down into a few critical principles. Although this work can be interpreted by few as to some extent superficial, the intention is to highlight how the attitude can have a significant outcome on a person’s life situation. According to the famous hands on practice facilitator, Barry Donalson, attitude is defined as a “mental position with regard of state or fact, it is a feeling of emotion” He continues to assert how attitude is in direct proportion to a person’s bank account. It is safe to claim that the very intention of Donaldson’s proclamation is to identify the vast vitality of attitude and its decisive impact on an individual’s finances.

 According to Donalson the first and foremost principle on how to develop a great attitude is with a “big and powerful dream.” He continues to say that the dream is a person’s magnificent purpose which stems down to the desire, mugged by distraction and released by reality. It is important to understand how a dream works. A dream indicates a clear vision and a WHY.  Needless to say, this is often the first step on how to become unstoppable. Donalson’s states how important it is to have a picture on where to go, only then can the game plan be developed.

Secondly, Donalson has identified the next component of a winner attitude, which leads directly to the second building block, passion. In the simplest terms, the passion is the driving force that set you apart from other people. Passion is the permanent energy that enables a person to tap into his or hers potential. This force works around the clock and serves as an inner flame until the individual obtain what he or she is seeking. Most often the passion is deeply reinforced in the mental state which means that the sum of actions the person undertakes is a direct result of the desire.

Thirdly, and a critical principle which is to be discussed is the strategy. The strategy is a subsequent element of the dream, and the passion. Most importantly, the strategy is essential on how to reach the destination. Short, the strategy is the action plan which serves as a navigator towards the target. I define the strategy as an elaborate systematic plan of action. Moreover, along the way there will be pitfalls, hurdles and obstacles to overcome. The question is; do you stop? The answer is often what differentiates the unsuccessful with the successful. Nevertheless, by executing the strategy, chances of reaching the goal increase drastically.

The fourth and final component of a rock solid attitude I will discuss is self discipline. Donalson define self discipline as “the control gained of oneself by enforcing obedience and order” The importance to have a clear cut objective that cannot be defeated reflects strength of will. It is important to understand that the real source of wealth is a result of self discipline. To elaborate, if a person is not in control of his or herself people will take he or she any and everywhere. Hence, self discipline is indispensible in all forms of leadership.

Summing up, there are several principals which constitute a great attitude. Essentials such as communications and bonds, goal setting, energy, and persistence were not covered in this article. All the fundamentals are equally important and if applied properly, is a makeup of a rock solid attitude. It remains to see whether each and one of us decide to apply this knowledge. This is proven ingredients that can help individuals become successful in every endeavor.
