Well, this past weekend at Yanik Silver's Underground
Online Seminar IV here in Los Angeles, we achieved another milestone in
our short marketing careers.
This
time last year, I remember learning for the first time about the annual
Underground Online Seminar, which is usually held in DC and yearning to
attend. However, we simply could not afford to go with the cost being
$2,000 per person, at the time.
It just wasn't in our budget and we were still in "learning mode" with our businesses showing little in profits.
A
year later, jumping on the opportunity to attend was a no brainer. Even
though the tickets were more expensive for this year's seminar, we
didn't have to think twice about it.
What a difference a year and some success makes...
We had the time of our lives at the Seminar and got to hangout, learn from and party with the BIGGEST names in the industry...

This time last year, these people were untouchable to us... today, they are colleagues and in many cases, friends.
Meeting Agent Yanik and the Dude from SMARTS
The
event kicked off Thursday with a 'Technology Lab' where we got to meet
Yanik Silver for the first time. Yanik is one of the OG internet
marketers and one of Mike Dillard's mentors.

The
best two parts about the technology lab was 1) meeting Yanik Silver and
2) learning from and meeting Don Crowther from StomperNET's SMARTS
program.
The key nugget I
got from Don, was when using social media to drive traffic to your
website, (with the exception of Traffic Geyser), avoid using automated
tools like 'Social Marker', 'OnlyWire' or similar tools because you run
the risk of getting SLAPPED by Google and getting your website banned.
He
said the best thing to do when using social media to market is, do
things by hand, be conservative and provide GREAT content.

Conquering CPA Networks with Tom Bell
Another
great treat was getting to meet and spend hours hanging out with Tom
Bell, co-author of MLM Traffic Formula. The course Mike Dillard, Tim
Erway and Tom Bell put together has literally been responsible for
transforming our lives and we got to thank Tom personally for it.
He says it's the course, which he's been thanked for the most in his million dollar marketing career.

Tom
was very gracious and invited us to hang out with him and 'talk shop'
for a little while. Well, a "little while" turned into hours of
masterminding and inventing new offers to feed into the HIGH TRAFFIC
CPA Networks he deals with.
For
those of you who don't know, CPA networks are like 'affiliate programs
on steroids'. It can be very high risk, but when done right can prove
to produce 20x more traffic than Google ever can.
Through
Tom's help, maybe in the future we'll be bringing you more on how to
use this high traffic and high payout traffic source, once we get the
hang of it.
Until then, I highly recommend MLM Traffic Formula, if you wish you know more about CPA networks, since it's the only course Tom's every authored, which covers the subject.
SEO Jedi Reveals Her Secret Blueprint
Another huge treat was meeting the SEO Master, Nancy Andrews from LiveBlueprints.com.
Both
Raymond and I had an opportunity to ask Nancy a question during the
event as she was part of a panel. The intention of my question was to
see if the "blueprint" I had created for doing SEO in AMF, would be
something that a pro like Nancy would approve of.
Now
you gotta understand something, Nancy does SEO for extremely
competitive markets like Golf, and was a speaker at last year's
Underground event. She knows her stuff!

I
asked Nancy what "blueprint" she follows when doing her SEO, and she
seemed a bit taken back by the question, because she had never heard
anyone else refer to an SEO strategy as a "blueprint".
(She
told me later that she thought I had been paid by someone to promote
her services, because she found the word 'blueprint' unique to only
her. Coincidentally, I also follow a blueprint for doing SEO.)
She
explained that the first thing you must do is to create the proper
"engine" for your website. What she mean by "engine" was having a well
organized and clearly defined linking structure (i.e. silo structures).
Once
your site engine is in place, you start "link building". She mentioned
only 30% of inbound links to your website should be to your main
homepage, (or main domain). The rest should be linking to other pages
within your site, so you can optimize for the longtail terms within
your site.
This is called 'deep linking'.
She's
noticed that Google takes into account inbound link ratios, when
ranking your site. They consider having inbound links to sub-pages of
your website to be more representative of natural or organic link build
up.
By only linking to your homepage, you run the risk of getting banned or slapped by Google.
We
later discussed ways to get these links and it included article
marketing, social media marketing (squidoo, hubpages, etc.) and using
automated linking from networks, like Get3waylinks.com or forming your own network.
It's was pretty cool knowing that our SEO strategy and what we teach to our customers as part of the Attraction Marketing Formula course, is along the same lines of strategy as that of an SEO expert like Nancy.

Saturday night, Yanik made special arrangements for us to party with the "smallest KISS tribute band in the world", Mini-KISS!!!
Yanik has an affinity for little people...
This was a
blast and I spent a good chunk of it having some great conversations
and drinks with Mike Faith, of Headsets.com and other marketers.
